Distressed Woman

Location: Dorchester-on-Thames (Oxfordshire) - George Hotel, the 'Vicar's Room'

Further Comments: This woman, dressed in white, had been observed crying in the hotel. She last appeared at the end of a four poster bed.

Screaming White Lady

Location: Dornoch (Highland) - Skibo Castle

Further Comments: This sad spirit is said to have been murdered in the 1600's by a servant. The white lady now drifts through the castle corridors, wailing and screaming.

Ladies

Location: Douglas (Isle of Man) - The Nunnery estate

Further Comments: Two women, one in black and the other in white, were said to haunt the land in this area. One version of the story says they are looking for each other to finish a fight they started during life.

Old Lady

Location: Dublin (County Dublin) - Canal through Drimnagh

Further Comments: A cyclist riding along the canal witnessed a glowing elderly woman in white with long hair dancing with a young man. The man wore a seventeenth or eighteenth century military uniform and looked 'normal', unlike the woman who also hummed a tune. The cyclist did not stop.

Lipsticked Lady

Location: Dudley (West Midlands) - Jolly Collier, Holly Hall (former inn)

Further Comments: The Westwood family had lived in the former inn for two years before their ghostly outbreak. A young blonde woman wrapped in white and wearing lipstick was seen in various parts of the house, as was a phantom bald man. Beds were moved, knocking started and footsteps were heard in empty parts of the building. Eventually, as strangely as it had started, the hauntings ceased.

Two Horses

Further Comments: As well as the phantom horses, the ruined building is also home to a phantom white lady.

Lady Waving Handkerchief

Further Comments: Appearing upset, this white woman frantically waves from a high window once every year - it is rumoured she was having an affair with the Cardinal Beaton.

Lady in Grey

Further Comments: The staircase here is reportedly haunted by a fleeting female in grey, while a beautiful woman in white has been seen in other areas of the building.

White Lady

Further Comments: Shortly after moving in, a family demanded to be relocated after a white lady manifested in front of a four year old boy and ordered the child to leave. The family dog refused to enter the boy's bedroom.

Further Comments: The phantom woman or women who haunt this building are not alone - the sound of a wailing hound has been heard, and disembodied voices emanate from empty rooms.

Further Comments: Observed by a group of bird watchers, a woman in white was seen drifting down an old trail that leads to the ruins of a chapel. It is unclear if her 'pointed head' was a hat or bonnet.

Pale Lady

Further Comments: Locals have reported strange banging sounds coming from the castle, as well as the occasional glimpse of a phantom woman in white.

Lady in White

Location: EC3 (Greater London) - Tower of London, the White Tower

Date / Time: Perfume unknown, tapping on 27 May 2013
Further Comments: Her identity unknown, this ghostly woman's perfume is said to be overpowering, and has made many people gag around St John's Chapel. One visitor felt tapping on her shoulder, although could not see who could have been responsible. When they mentioned it to a guide, the guide said it could have been 'Daniel', who people have seen wearing a black cloak.

Further Comments: A white female phantom is said to hover over the graves of the fallen knights on the site. Another tale says a Knight Templar also haunts the church.

White Lady

Further Comments: Appearing soon after the sun goes down, this pale unknown figure drifts around the courtyard.

White Rider

Location: Eckington (Derbyshire) - Moss valley, between town and Ridgeway

Further Comments: Two women out walking their dogs watched a white female figure on horseback in the woods. The entity vanished as it rounded a non-existent corner. A local piece of folklore says the area is haunted by a white horse, although traditionally riderless. In 2022, witnesses spotted a hooded grey lady carrying a basket who disappeared into bushes.

Woman in White

Further Comments: This tall phantom female had a preference for the staircase and was blamed for an accident where someone fell (or was pushed?). Another ghost, a male which haunted the dining room, possessed an evil looking face.

White Woman

Further Comments: This white lady stabbed her lover to death by the tree, while fending off his attack. She was executed for the crime, but her ghost holding a sword would return to the tree where the crime was committed. Another version of the story says that she was murdered here.

Lady Mary Douglas

Further Comments: Lady Mary, manifesting in the form of a white lady, is said to wander along the corridors, looking into the original rooms. Her presence is reported to be calming.

Woman in White

Location: Edinburgh (Lothian) - Royal Circus Hotel

Further Comments: At least three night porters reported seeing this tall, beautiful woman in white with long black hair move quickly down the corridors. Workers demanded to work in pairs until the ghost had been exorcised.

Further Comments: This large albino cat was seen close to the cottages and was reported to resemble a lion. The same area is reportedly haunted by a headless white woman.

White Lady

Further Comments: Folklore placed the spirit of a white woman within a house chimney on Oteley Park. Another version of the tale places the woman on the banks of the Mere, shouting at people to stop using her water.
