Further Comments: This hound, believed by some to be the Devil, appeared during one annual festival. The terrified attendees fled the scene, and the party was never held again.

Webb's Portrait

Further Comments: A portrait of General Webb was at one time thought to be cursed, with ill luck befalling anyone who removed it.

Hound

Further Comments: A phantom dog is said to haunt this wooded area, though no witnesses exist.

Lady Blunt

Location: Lydiard Millicent - Rectory

Further Comments: It was on this date that Lady Blunt watched her fiance murdered; the shock she suffered was strong enough to leave an enduring psychic echo which has lasted over two centuries.

Cowled Figure

Further Comments: The grey spook wearing a cowl was spotted in the corner of the church when the building should have been empty. Unworldly organ music and singing has also been reported after the building has been locked at night.

Young Girl

Further Comments: Wearing a long white dress, this young girl barely in her teens has been reported in several parts of the village. It is thought she drowned in a flood which swept through the area in the mid-nineteenth century.

Knight

Further Comments: Manifesting in the early hours of the morning, this armoured figure walks through the building, on route to the churchyard.

Sad Grey Lady

Location: Malmesbury - Bell Hotel

Further Comments: This ghostly woman was observed by a priest staying in the hotel. The clergyman stated the phantom lady wore seventeenth century clothing that swept along the floor and that she had a distressed look. The woman's portrait hangs in the restaurant hotel, though no one remembers her name. A former occupier of the hotel said that the phantom was known to walk along outside the building, passing through a hedge.

Grey Man

Further Comments: The driver of a car reported seeing a man in grey coveralls appear in the middle of the road. The driver tried to stop the car but was unable to. The figure in grey turned towards the driver, revealing a pale white face, raised his arm, and then vanished.

Rustling Woman

Further Comments: This figure in a noisy dress is heard as she descends the staircase in the farmhouse.

Harry Jones

Location: Malmesbury - Kings Arms public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: A popular former landlord, Harry died at the start of the twentieth century. His presence is said to be strong in room 9, where he died, and staff have reported strange occurrences in the bar area.

Old Woman

Location: Manningford - Hare Street

Further Comments: Some believed this phantom woman was cursed to walk the earth after selling her soul to the Devil.

Woman with Pig

Location: Manningford Abbots (was Manningford Abbas) - Rectory

Further Comments: A former occupier of the rectory reported seeing a woman driving a pig over the lawn. She turned briefly to call for her husband, and when she looked again the woman and hog had vanished.

King Charles II

Further Comments: A woman sleeping in the room where Charles II was reputed to have stayed awoke during the night to see a man resembling the king playing cards with several other men.

Golden Coach

Location: Manningford Bruce - The Hatches

Further Comments: Pulled by a team of four headless horses, this golden coach appears at The Hatches.

Woman

Location: Manton - Cottage near the barrow
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa 1906
Further Comments: After the barrow was excavated, the female skeleton contained within was reburied in the same location. However, a local woman reported that the Bronze Age lady returned for several nights after the burial, looking through the cottage window.

Headless Dog

Location: Manton - House (since demolished) along Preshute Lane

Further Comments: This headless dog would have been silent if not for the chain dragging on the floor which dangled from its neck. The owner of the property was never afraid of the entity.

Ruined Treasure

Location: Marden - Area where Hatfield Barrow once stood

Further Comments: This barrow was destroyed after treasure hunters failed to find evidence of a burial chamber. Stories of a valuable hoard located in the area still exist.

Further Comments: A figure carrying their head was said to emerge from a pond and walk along a footpath.

Woman in a Mobcap

Further Comments: This phantom also wears an apron, and she is thought to be responsible for the smell of fresh baking which can sometimes be detected throughout the household.

White Lady

Location: Market Lavington - Old Rectory (no longer standing)

Further Comments: The building was haunted by a white female spectre murdered in the property.

Roman on Horseback

Further Comments: This Roman centurion passes through the area on horseback.

White Monk

Location: Marlborough - Former chapel along High Street

Further Comments: One worker at the building after its conversion reported seeing a monk in white clothing. Mild poltergeist-like activity was also reported on the site.

Rider

Further Comments: The ghost of a highwayman is said to ride through the area and is more likely to be heard than seen. The highwayman is said to follow the route of a road that no longer exists.

Coach

Further Comments: This coach, driven by a decapitated horseman, manifests on the stroke of midnight and travels through a tiny gap in a hedge.
