Lost Pilot

Location: Upavon - Perimeter around former RAF Upavon
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1940s
Further Comments: This shadowy pilot was killed when his First World War aircraft crash landed in nearby fields. He was reported several times by men on guard duty.

Moped

Location: Upton Scudamore - Farm track, opposite a lane leading down to Upton Scudamore
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 09 October 1976
Further Comments: On a dense, foggy night, author Andrew Collins (pictured) and a team of four other paranormal researchers encountered a small light that moved a few feet off the ground, rather like the headlamp of a moped. The light vanished into an area blocked by low hedgerow, and when they examined the ground the following morning, there was no evidence of tread prints.

Monk

Location: Urchfont - Friar's Lane
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1950
Further Comments: A phantom monk was observed gliding along the road before heading towards the church. A local legend declares a tunnel to be underneath the route that the phantom takes.

Black Dog

Location: Urchfont - Unspecified footpath that crosses fields and allotment
Type: Shuck
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This hound is thought to be a harbinger of misfortune.

Old Marlow

Location: Wanborough - Harrow Inn
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2010s
Further Comments: Tradition says a coach driver named Marlow crashed his vehicle outside the inn. His ghost now enters the building, searching for his missing passengers. A former chef spotted a tall man in eighteenth century clothing and claimed that two ghostly children would hide items in the upper part of the building.

Lady Blanche Arundell

Location: Wardour - Wardour Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: As the sun sinks beneath the horizon, Lady Blanche has been seen dressed for battle; she and 25 others fought the Roundheads at the castle in 1643. The Arundell family were haunted by white owls, which would appear just prior to a death in the family.


Longleat Safari Park.

Swans

Location: Warminster - Longleat gardens / Safari Park
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Still viable
Further Comments: The story states that if all the swans leave the estate, the owners will soon die and lose their bloodline. Legend aside, in 2025, Dr Tom Lewis recorded a shadowy figure within the Safari Park, although the image is quite grainy.

Lady Louisa

Location: Warminster - Longleat House, corridor known as Green Lady's Walk
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late twentieth century (Louisa), 09 September 2025 (shadow)
Further Comments: The Lady Louisa, caught inside an unhappy marriage, engaged herself in an affair of the heart with another man. Her husband, on discovering this, was less than happy and killed her lover. Louisa now walks the aptly named corridor in regret.

Monk

Location: Warminster - Private residence along St John's Road
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Pre-1970s
Further Comments: A phantom hooded figure was observed several times in a property along this road. It was speculated that he was connected to a nearby monastery, long since demolished.

UFO Capital

Location: Warminster - Skies above town
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 1996
Further Comments: To celebrate the countless UFO sightings over the town, the Marquis of Bath and the local tourist board officially called the town the UFO Capital of Britain.

Young Lady

Location: Warminster - Theatre
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1970-1990
Further Comments: This phantom female was more likely to be heard or her presence felt. A former worker at the theatre recalled hearing footsteps in empty parts of the building and smelling sweet perfume. The woman is thought to have died after being pushed from the top of a staircase when the building was a reading room in the eighteenth or nineteenth century.


Cley Hill.

Fire

Location: Warminster - Cley Hill
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Varies: 31 October & 02 November (reoccurring)
Further Comments: Several witnesses have reported seeing large burning fires on the hills, with figures dancing around them, talking and singing loudly in an unrecognised language. When investigated, there is never any evidence of the fire or figures. A legend says the hill was created by the Devil, who threw down a pile of dirt on the spot after being led to believe that it would take him several years to reach Devizes.

Golden Chair

Location: West Chisenbury - Casterley Camp
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This area is reputedly home to buried treasure in the form of a golden chair.


West Kennet Long Barrow, Wiltshire.

White Dog

Location: West Kennet - Long Barrow
Type: Shuck
Date / Time: 23 June (or Midsummer Eve), sunrise (reoccurring). Encounters in 1995 and 1996
Further Comments: Appearing to mark the start of the longest day of the year, this pale hound has been observed at sunrise. Some reports say the dog is accompanied by a ghostly druid. In 1995 a witness heard an almost unbearable high-pitched sound before observing a Neolithic man emerge from the barrow and walk away. The witness was terrified and fled. An experience in 1996 resulted in a witness feeling as if they had hit an invisible wall and something was trying to push them out, and they later read of someone four years earlier who had been grabbed by invisible hands.

Coach

Location: West Kennett - Road, exact area unknown
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Pulled by a team of four horses, a spectral coach haunts the area.

Grey Lady

Location: West Lavington (was Bishops Lavington) - Dial House
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Early to mid twentieth century?
Further Comments: One former occupier believed her home haunted by a friendly old woman who wore grey. The kitchen was also said to be haunted by a seventeenth century maid.

Auburn Woman

Location: West Lavington (was Bishops Lavington) - Manor House
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Early or mid twentieth century?
Further Comments: This phantom woman had auburn hair and was dressed in blue. The witness reported the face was quite beautiful, and the entity smiled before looking sad. The figure was illuminated, and when the witness turned briefly away, the woman in blue vanished.

Cloudy Figure

Location: Westbrook - Old path between Westbrook and Bromham
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown, but said to appear once a year
Further Comments: Not much is known about this strange figure who is white and cloudy in form.

Dane Battle site

Location: Westbury - Bratton Camp, aka Bratton Castle
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This location is said to be the battlefield where King Arthur defeated the Danes.

White Horse

Location: Westbury - Chalk Figure on Hillside
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Still present
Further Comments: The age of this large chalk horse cut into the hillside is debated, some believing it was first created in the ninth century. The horse is said to wander off for a drink of water at midnight.

Glow

Location: Westbury - Hill near the white horse
Type: Other
Date / Time: 22/23 January 1988
Further Comments: A CB radio user sitting in his car on the hill realised that both radio and car were dead. He then heard a loud hum and his car was bathed in bright light for around ten seconds. The light dissipated and the car started normally, enabling the man to quickly leave the area.

Woman in the Bedroom

Location: Westwood - Westwood Manor
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late twentieth century
Further Comments: The ghost of a woman in one of the bedrooms is said to guarantee a sleepless night. There are also stories of a headless person who silently walks the manor house at night.

Coach

Location: Whetham - Road heading towards Calne
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This ghostly coach is pulled by a team of six grey horses.

Archdeacon Cockin

Location: Wilcot - Church
Type: Post-Mortem Manifestation
Date / Time: 1925
Further Comments: The Archdeacon was briefly seen by his daughter shortly after his death, standing behind another clergyman giving communion.

Dame Anne Wroughton

Location: Wilcot - General area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Anne's husband believed her to be having an affair and threw her out of their home - she froze to death in the winter snow a few hours later. Her husband was wrong about her infidelity, and now Anne's ghost walks forlornly through the village.
