The Bride

Further Comments: This woman killed herself the day after being wed - her ghost loiters around the Purfleet area before screaming and throwing itself into the quay waters. Other screams, belonging to fighting soldiers, can also be heard in the area, during which the water runs red with blood.

Mrs Buckley

Location: King's Lynn - The Exorcist's House

Further Comments: The ghost of a former occupant of this old house was seen briefly by the two daughters of the man who had just purchased the property.


The Globe Hotel, King's Lynn.

The Chill

Location: King's Lynn - The Globe Hotel, Tuesday Market Place
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Rather than a building design flaw, this 'chill' has been blamed on the spirit of a man once murdered in the stables, a site now incorporated inside the building.


Tudor Rose Hotel, King's Lynn.

Small Lady

Location: King's Lynn - The Tudor Rose Hotel, 11 Nicholas Street
Type: Unknown Ghost Type
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Shortly after a wedding, the bride was stabbed to death by her new husband in the hotel. Since then, a short woman in a long white dress has been spotted and phantom footsteps heard.

Lantern Carrier

Location: King's Lynn - The Walks (Park)
Type: Other
Date / Time: August 1875
Further Comments: This figure walking around carrying an unlit lantern caused a witness to report his encounter to the police. Locals armed with clubs and stones attempted to hunt the ghost, which was soon discovered to be a scientist looking for moths.

Further Comments: At least one cleaner has reported that small items vanish, only to reappear in different places around the building.

Quite a Few

Location: King's Lynn - True's Yard Fisherfolk Museum
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000s
Further Comments: This building is said to be haunted by a few dozen ghosts, although no sightings appear to predate the year 2000. The building's ghosts featured in several news publications in September 2021 after a ghost hunter's motion-activated music box was left on the site, causing museum staff some concern.


Tuesday Market Place, King's Lynn.

King's Lynn's Heart

Location: King's Lynn - Tuesday Market Place, house No's 15/16
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Legend unknown, but heart still visible
Further Comments: Several legends explain why this heart is here, though all revolve around the same theme; the market square was once a place of execution, and the heart exploded out from the chest of the unfortunate female victims, embedding into the wall. Number 15 is also home to a poltergeist who throws things to the floor.


White Hart pub, King's Lynn.

Lost Monk

Location: King's Lynn - White Hart public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: The phantom which haunts this pub is thought by most to be a monk from the church across the road - the church and public house were once connected by a now bricked up tunnel.

Crash and US Airmen

Location: Langham - Apple Orchard, once the World War 2 airbase
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late twentieth century
Further Comments: The sound of a crashing aircraft has been reported amongst the trees, and misty figures dressed in US AAF uniform have been seen - always dissipating when approached. Screaming was once heard coming from one end of a former runway, though when the sound was investigated, nothing was found.

Lion Cubs

Location: Langham - Council Tip

Further Comments: A pair of lion cubs were reportedly seen playing on the tip.

Helpful Little Man

Location: Letheringsett - Letheringsett Water Mill
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1995
Further Comments: Thought to be a former worker at the mill, this little grey man has been seen walking around the building several times.

Coach

Location: Letton - Road through village (now the road between Letton hall and Cranworth, the Shipdham Road)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1830s
Further Comments: A female witness recalled seeing a phantom coach being pulled by invisible horses along this road, so bright it lit the night up as if day.

Walking Priest

Location: Little Walsingham - High Street, parallel to the back of Priory / back entrance to Richeldis House
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: July 2004
Further Comments: While on a pilgrimage to the shine in the village, a witness reported a figure in a black cassock or black cape with either a hood or a high collar and biretta. As the figure approached, the witness stepped to one side and called out 'Good night Father', only to watch the figure fade away.

Mary Vision

Location: Little Walsingham - Shrine
Type: Legend
Date / Time: 1061 onwards
Further Comments: Lady Richeldis had a vision of the Virgin Mary who commanded that a replica of her Nazareth house be built. Richeldis constructed the shrine and it became highly popular until its destruction during the Reformation. The Shrine and its healing well are now operational again.

Old Hutch

Location: Long Stratton - General area
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: The phantom coach driven around this parish contains the ghost of Old Hutch, who is thought to be Edmund Reve - his tomb can be found in the St Mary's Church.

Location: Long Stratton - Swan Hotel
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This site is said to be haunted, although the exact details are not known.

Viking Raiders

Location: Ludham - Ludham Bridge
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 02 April (reoccurring)
Further Comments: This raiding party appears late at night and heads towards the bridge, blowing hunting horns and cracking whips.

Dragon's Home

Location: Ludham - Ruins of St Benet's Abbey
Type: Dragon
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A local legend says that a dragon once moved to the vault here after local people prevented the creature from entering its former home in a hill.

Monk, Betrayer of the Abbey

Location: Ludham - St. Benet's Abbey, ruins close to River Bure
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 25 May (reoccurring) (monk), 10 August 2019 (dog)
Further Comments: Now little more than rubble, the site of the old abbey is home to the ghost of the monk who betrayed his brothers to Norman soldiers - the troops later hanged him anyway. Two people out investigating the ghostly monk spotted a large black dog-like creature, the size of a small horse, running towards the church. The two witnesses quickly left the area.

Coach and Four

Location: Lyng - Balor's Pit, Caddors Hill
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: This team of horses and the coach all fell into the pit and drowned. Their ghosts run along the fateful route and the accident is periodically replayed.

Nuns

Location: Lyng - Druid Stone Grove
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Coming from the direction of the old nunnery, several of these black and white figures are said to drift along the route they took many years previous.

Unknown Figure

Location: Lyng - Private house along Richmond Place
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Although the house which this ghost once haunted was pulled down and a new row of houses built, the phantom is still said to remain.

Sister Barbara

Location: Marham - Vinegar Hill
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: November (reoccurring)
Further Comments: The sister would pay men to pretend to rob travellers, before 'saving' them, and receiving rewards that she used to pamper herself. She was reported by a group of monks and was subsequently bricked up alive behind a wall. She now walks the hill, gliding silently along.

Old Couple

Location: Merton - Private flat at Merton Hall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2003
Further Comments: An elderly couple who had previously lived in the flat were thought to be the ghosts responsible for creating strange occurrences around the site. Light bulbs would be flicked quickly on and off in the night, while the sound of slippered feet could be heard moving around the kitchen during the day. The smell of lavender would often fill the air.
