Further Comments: A willow tree here was known as the Lush Bush, named after a man called Lush who committed suicide and was buried at the location. The stake driven into Lush's heart to prevent his post-mortem return grew into the tree.

Further Comments: Chased through the village by an angry ghostly mob, the shade of Bern is said to reach the river before jumping into a boat and making his escape.

Further Comments: Roughton was subject to visitation from at least one alien big cat during the summer of 1996. A few years later, one witness observed a big black cat walking through a field of crops before disappearing into the treeline. The witness described the creature as much larger than a dog, but smaller than a horse.

Further Comments: Belonging to a drowned skipper, the dog failed to save his master's life, and now runs along the beach. His glowing eyes and black coat firmly place him in the shuck category. The creature was last seen by a man cycling in the area - he reported spotting a large shaggy dog which passed through a solid gate.

Further Comments: A re-enactment of a mediaeval (or possibly Roman) feast occurs late at night; the phantom scene includes singing, dancing, and small bonfires. Some sources state that the event happens on the third Tuesday in May.

Further Comments: Becoming active during Yuletide, the ghostly presence creates echoing footfalls in empty corridors and heavy breathing in a room on the second floor. Christmas cards are also moved by the spirit, and lights are turned on and off. The entity is thought to be a nun who seduced a monk on the site; those who have seen her say she has hollow eye sockets. Others blame a young lamplighter who died many years ago while on his rounds.
Many wells have been dedicated to St Helen.

Further Comments: A thirsty labourer working in the blazing sun stopped for a drink at the well but drank too much water and died. The man's phantom remained in the area.

Further Comments: A witness pulled their car over to have a better look at a circular object hovering about twenty metres above the road, as did another car behind them. The object did not make a sound and the witness estimated it was around five metres in diameter. The witness then lost their nerve and drove off, as did the occupant in the other car.

Further Comments: A team of seven people spent a five year period collecting and recording physical evidence to support the Life After Death theory. Their evidence included writing and faces manifesting on unexposed film and apports in the form of jewellery and other small items.

Further Comments: Once seen sitting in the corner of the pub, this figure is more likely to be heard walking around or blamed for turning electrical items on and off. It is thought a female entity also haunts the building, as her perfume is sometimes caught on a gust of wind, and once she was spotted on the stage area.

Further Comments: A weird column of grey smoke was spotted in the inn by the manager's wife during the mid-twentieth century. There are other reports of a ghostly woman wearing grey clothing and the overpowering stench of strong tobacco.

Further Comments: The bodies of twelve sailors were buried in a gap in the cliffs; the corpses were covered with stones and left, rather than being taken to the nearby church. Now when the weather is right, the sound of the bodies being buried can be heard.

Further Comments: People living near the old railway line have reported hearing a steam whistle and a low grumbling sound, as if the railway had never ceased operating in 1969.
