Further Comments: The roads of this small village are reportedly haunted by the shade of a nun. A white woman also stalks the area, though this may be the same entity.

Ghostly Hunt

Location: Hembury - Hembury Fort
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late nineteenth century (rider), wolf in September 2020
Further Comments: Out walking late one night, a person spotted a ghostly horse, rider, and pack of hounds in the valley below him. The hunt pack reached Hembury Fort; the rider blew his horn and the pack sunk into the ground. On a Sunday afternoon in September 2020, a witness spotted a white bubble-like phenomenon, in which ran a wolf reported as being twice the size as normal.

Treasure Hunter

Location: Higher Combe - The Caratacus Stone, just outside the village

Further Comments: The jutting rock is said to have treasure concealed beneath it, though it is now protected by the ghost of a man who tried to remove the stone to find the hidden wealth - his body was found crushed under the stone.

Goram

Location: Holcombe - Giant's Grave

Further Comments: Known as either Goram or Gorm, this giant was buried in the area.

Fighting Soldiers

Location: Holford - Dowsborough Hill

Further Comments: A camp for Danish soldiers, sometimes the sounds of battle can be heard here.

Coach

Location: Holford - Normansland driveway
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 24 December (reoccurring)
Further Comments: Appearing on the stroke of midnight, this coach pulled by a team of black horses circles the driveway before mysteriously vanishing again.

Spanish Guest

Location: Holford - Plough Hotel

Further Comments: Murdered in the building in the sixteenth century for a large sum of gold (which was never discovered), the Spaniard still makes his presence felt.

Long Wyrm

Further Comments: This wood was once the home of a long dragon, which caused some concern prior to being hacked apart by a forester.

Skittle Player

Location: Holmans Clavel - Public house

Further Comments: This pub ghost can be heard playing with wooden pins a few hours after closing.

Mary Hunt

Location: Ilminster - Crossroads on the Dowlish road, known locally as Mary Hunt's Grave

Further Comments: Said to haunt the area where she was buried, Hunt's true history is a mystery.

Cries of the Wounded

Location: Kentsford - Site of former railway
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Mid twentieth century
Further Comments: A collision between two steam engines at the site in 1857 resulted in several people dead and seriously injured - locals have reported hearing the accident repeated at night, some even seeing the engine pass by.

Florence Wyndham

Location: Kentsford - St Decumen's Church, Snailholt Lane, and meadows

Further Comments: In 1559, Mrs Wyndham fell into a coma and was placed in her coffin in the family vault at St Decumen's. A local ruffian broke into the vault that very night and tried to steal her wedding ring by cutting off her finger; this shock brought Florence out of her coma, sending the would-be thief running. She was able to climb from her coffin and stagger home; the route her ghost has taken ever since.

Man in Black

Location: Keynsham - 52 Temple Street
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: This lean gentleman was seen several times prior to the 1970s, but the sightings ceased after an exorcism. However, a few years later and he was back, seen once again strolling around the building as if he never went away.

Scratching

Location: Keynsham - DIY shop (former church, likely no longer open), and neighbouring cottage (no longer standing)

Date / Time: 1969
Further Comments: The shop featured in the press after workers claimed it to be haunted. It was reported that the cottage that once stood next door had a resident ghost who visited the former owner. A priest blessed the shop, although soon after staff could hear scratching and banging in a wall during lunchtime.

Stone Snakes

Location: Keynsham - Forest

Further Comments: Saint Keyna once lived in the woodland in this area and is said to have turned all snakes into stone.

Driver

Location: Keynsham - Rail Station
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Early twentieth century?
Further Comments: Several porters, at different times, reported seeing a phantom locomotive pass silently through the station along the Bristol line. A few said that they could see the driver of the train looking out, a concerned expression on his face.

Thomas

Location: Kilmersdon - Jolliffe Arms public house

Further Comments: A team of ghost hunters reported detecting the ghost of a young boy named Thomas whose father starved him to death in the attic. A phantom woman is also reputed to haunt the site.

Blue Ben

Location: Kilve - Putsham Hill
Type: Dragon
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The dragon known as Blue Ben built the nearby causeway so he could reach the sea - this would keep him cool on days he felt particularly fiery. Ben met his end when he slipped on the rocks and suffocated in the mud below. His skull (actually a fossil ichthyosaur) is on display in the local museum.

Choked to Death

Location: Kingston St Mary - General area

Further Comments: A brutal fire breathing dragon terrorized this region until a champion came forth to tackle it. The hero rolled a boulder up a hill opposite the dragon's lair and shouted out to it. As the monster emerged jaws agape the champion rolled the boulder down into the dragon's maw, chocking the foul beast.

Squire Surtees

Location: Kingston St Mary - Tainfield House (no longer a single house)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 05 January (reoccurring)
Further Comments: Riding a mottled grey horse, the squire rides circles on the driveway, rattling a handful of chains.

King's Home

Location: Knighton - Knighton Farm
Type: Fairy

Further Comments: The King of the pixies once lived in this area, but the ringing of the church bells drove him away.

Robot Attack

Location: Langford Budville - Lane near the village, exact location unknown
Type: UFO
Date / Time: October 1973
Further Comments: A woman driving near the village was attacked and abducted by a large robot after her car broke down - it took her to a domed craft where she was experimented on by three creatures.

Horse & Rider

Location: Langford Budville - Area near the army base

Further Comments: A horse and rider were killed by the Wild Hunt when they failed to hide themselves in time from the rabid hounds of hell. Their souls remain trapped in the area.

Gereint

Location: Langport - Location of battle unknown

Further Comments: Gereint was slain fighting by Arthur's side, engaging Saxons at the battle of Llongborth.

Charging Horses

Location: Lansdown - Battlefields House

Further Comments: A Civil War battle site, the sounds of horses have been reported charging around the vicinity, though the creatures cannot be seen. Old fashioned figures, two women and a man, are also said to haunt the area.
