Pale Little Girl

Location: Gloucester - Coach and Horses public house

Further Comments: A new landlord to the pub reported that he and his family had heard strange sounds, while his son had spotted a phantom little girl wearing white. The family were said to be too afraid to sleep upstairs.

Hunched Figure

Location: Gloucester - Dick Whittington's public house

Further Comments: A hunched figure seen walking around the cellar was just one of the ghosts which caused the owners of this public house to call in paranormal investigators. Lights have also been seen floating over the bar, while furniture moves itself around the building. Previously, a ghostly man wearing a flat cap caused workmen to flee the building.

Sewing Fairies

Location: Gloucester - Exact location unknown, old tailor's shop
Type: Fairy

Further Comments: The tailor who owned this shop left the mayor's clothing unfinished on Saturday and found it completed on Monday morning. He used this event to advertise the shop, claiming that the little folk had done the work, though it soon transpired that an assistant had worked on the Sunday to avoid going to church.

Ghostly nuns pop up across the UK.

Nun holding Child

Location: Gloucester - Former hospital along Tewkesbury Road (no longer standing)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: The hospital was haunted by both the nun carrying a baby, and the sounds of the child crying. It is said that the woman committed suicide after blaming herself for the death of the infant.

Teacher

Location: Gloucester - Former school along Archdeacon Street

Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: The building is home to a former teacher who died after falling down a set of steps - he is seen dressed in a black gown and wearing a mortar cap.

Monk

Location: Gloucester - General area, Barnwood

Further Comments: The story of a phantom monk in the area dates to at least 1860, with the entity doomed to walk the earth after stealing money from the nearby monastery.

Glowing Woman

Location: Gloucester - Grange Road
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late summer 2005, 22:00h
Further Comments: A glowing older woman wearing a Victorian-style nightgown crossed the grass and approached a jogger, who promptly sprinted away terrified. The jogger recalled that people walking their dogs behind the phantom seemed oblivious to the entity.

Footsteps

Location: Gloucester - Horton Road, Mayhill Way, and London Road

Date / Time: November 2020 (a Sunday afternoon)
Further Comments: During the pandemic, this witness heard footsteps coming up from behind. Conscious of social distancing, the witness stopped and turned around to let the approaching person pass; no one could be seen and after a split second, the footsteps stopped.

Blue Lady

Further Comments: The road is said to be haunted by a lady with a blue glow. A local newspaper reported two people walking a dog encountered the ghost in 2016.

Blurred Figure

Location: Gloucester - National Waterways Museum

Further Comments: A photograph taken by a thirteen year old girl in this building apparently shows a ghostly figure partly obscured by a wooden barrel. Other visitors have reported seeing a man in black or have heard footsteps or voices in parts of the museum that should have been empty.

Flying Beer

Location: Gloucester - New Inn public house

Further Comments: CCTV in this pub recorded a pint of beer as it was 'pushed' off the table by an unseen hand, although it has been suggested that it slipped off on its own accord. The building is said to be haunted by an unknown number of children who died in a fire on site.

Pallet Pusher

Location: Gloucester - Poundstretcher, Eastgate Street (was formally the Theatre Royal)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2005
Further Comments: A young woman hanged herself in this building when it was a theatre and was said to haunt the location. In 2005, Poundstretcher's CCTV footage appeared to show a spectral figure of a Victorian woman pushing a whole pallet of goods to the ground.

Female Prisoner

Location: Gloucester - Prison (closed 2013)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Prior to twenty-first century
Further Comments: This ghost is thought to be a woman held in the cells of the nearby abbey - she now appears in the jail and mocks the prisoners. Another story says she was killed by an inmate and returns to continue her search for him. Activity is said to be particularly strong in cell 25 on the A3 landing.

Hostile Woman

Location: Gloucester - Private house along Tweenbrook Avenue

Further Comments: A family were forced to move out from this property after several disturbing incidents involving the shade of a woman. A six year old boy was found by an open bedroom window (which had previously been nailed shut), saying 'the lady wants me to go with her', and the woman was also encountered under the entrance to the attic, asking 'pray for me'.

Further Comments: A man on his way home from the station could hear the organ being played in the church, although the gates were locked and the building in darkness.

Coughing

Further Comments: Staff at the company reported hearing phantom coughing and disembodied footsteps late at night in the brewing building.

Wispy Monks

Location: Hailes - Hailes Abbey
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Monks unknown, woman in 1979
Further Comments: In the dead of night, it is thought that the monks return to the abbey to continue their long forgotten earthly chores. One of these jobs may be protecting their greatest relic - drops of Christ's blood that were carefully stored in a glass container. Archaeologists working on the site in 1979 spotted a ghostly white female (thought to be Lady Joan Huddleston) as it glided past the doorway - they followed the entity as it moved along lanes and roads. After the incident, one archaeologist was said to have left the site and refused to work there again. As a side note, it was said that a secret tunnel ran from the abbey to the nearby village of Coscomb, but the only person who knew of the entrance died many years ago.

Eloping Lovers

Further Comments: An eloping pair of lovers ride a phantom horse along this road; during their initial escape, the father of the escaping girl accidently killed her.

White Lady

Further Comments: Accidently killed by her father while trying to run away with her lover, this woman took the form of a white lady and haunted a particular room in her old home.

Man

Location: Hanham Abbots - Court Farm barn

Further Comments: Antony D Hippisley Coxe, in 'Haunted Britain', recounts how his wife watched a man enter this barn, but when she followed him in, the man had vanished.

Further Comments: The roads of this small village are reportedly haunted by the shade of a nun. A white woman also stalks the area, though this may be the same entity.

Further Comments: Police warned motorists to watch out for wallabies on the road, after several reports of the small marsupials were made by motorists.
