Hooded Face

Location: Evesham - A435, between Evesham and Beckett's Farm, near Portway turnoff
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1997
Further Comments: Returning home from a holiday, a couple were horrified when a hooded black face jumped onto their car windscreen - no body was visible. The face moved from left to right across the window until it disappeared.

Yellow and Blue Light

Location: Fenny Compton - Hills between village and Burton Bassett
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1924
Further Comments: This yellow and blue ray of light was said normally to dance on the hills between the two villages, although in 1924 it moved to Fenny Compton and flittered around the churchyard. Witnesses said the phantom had large glowing eyes.

Rake

Location: Gaydon - Church
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: After the death of his landowning family, a young man wasted his inheritance on an immoral lifestyle and refused to help his tenants. For his sins, the rake took to haunting an area around the church walls.

Lady

Location: Guy's Cliffe - General area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Nineteenth century
Further Comments: One story claimed a phantom woman haunted a lane in this neighbourhood, while another said the ghosts were a gang of armed men.

Shady Figure

Location: Halford - Church
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Early twentieth century
Further Comments: This spectre was seen by two women taking a walk during winter.

Woman in a Robe

Location: Haseley - Church
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late twentieth century
Further Comments: Seen several times, this shade is said to cross the nearby road with total disregard for traffic.

Cavalier

Location: Hatton - A4177 near the village hall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: September, 1982 or 1983
Further Comments: A driver and his passenger spotted a ghostly figure standing on the side of the road which resembled a Cavalier from the English Civil War period.

Former Patients

Location: Hatton - Former Central Hospital, was known as Warwick County Lunatic Asylum, now Hatton Park
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Before modernisation, this hospital was said to have rooms haunted by former patients.

Victorian Inmate

Location: Hatton - Hatton Locks
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Thought to have been committed to what was the Warwick County Lunatic Asylum, the figure reputed to haunt the locks will only appear if their name is called.

Light Coloured Car

Location: Hatton - Humped back bridge, Hockley Road onto Dark Lane
Type: Unknown Ghost Type
Date / Time: 27 October 2007, approximately 13:45h
Further Comments: A driver spotted a car, light or silver in colour, heading towards the bridge travelling on the wrong side of the road. The driver held back, to allow the ongoing car to pass, but it had vanished, with nowhere to turn off.

Grey Lady

Location: Henley in Arden - White Swan hotel
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: This phantom grey lady is likely to be the same entity which has been known to whip off the bedcovers covering sleeping visitors.

Old Betty

Location: Honington - Church
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Sitting on the wall, smoking a pipe, Betty was a well known character within the community even before she died.

Ed Golding

Location: Ilmington - Church
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: Former parish clerk Golding has been seen walking about in his church, having died in the 1790s. The area is also said to be home to a woman in white, waiting for her husband killed during the battle of Edge Hill.

Night Coach

Location: Ilmington - Roads of village, particularly Pig Lane
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Varies: 24 December and 01 January the pack hunt, date of coach unknown
Further Comments: This spectral vehicle runs along the roads, before suddenly veering off and vanishing across local fields. This may be related to the ghostly hunt pack seen in the area, led by a man killed by his hounds.

De Clinton Curse

Location: Kenilworth - Area around the former site of the abbey and the Church of St Mary (no longer standing)
Type: Curse
Date / Time: Ongoing?
Further Comments: Geoffrey De Clinton promised that if anyone ever tried to take away the land around the church they would be cursed by God - a series of disasters befell many people and companies which tried to redevelop the land during the late twentieth century.

Ann Hawtrey

Location: Kenilworth - Chesford Bridge, near Wootton Spinneys
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Eighteenth century?
Further Comments: Ann Hawtrey (or Heytrey) was accused of murdering her mistress and hanged for the crime. Shortly after Ann's death, her ghost was said to have taken up haunting the bridge, close to the scene of the crime.

Lost Girl

Location: Kenilworth - Kenilworth castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000s
Further Comments: The gatehouse is haunted by a little girl who asks for her daddy, a man dressed in black killed in a sword fight, and an old lady who breaks the same candle, time after time. A phantom little boy is reported in the stables, as are ghostly chickens and horses.

Monk Without a Face

Location: Kenilworth - St Nicholas church and the avenued path which leads to Bridge Street
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Monk unknown, doppelgangers in 1997
Further Comments: This area is said to be haunted by a faceless monk who once inhabited the nearby abbey. Two people in the St Nicholas graveyard during 1997 thought they were being followed. They stopped, only to realise that the people behind them were their doppelgangers, going through the motions of their own actions moments earlier!

Lady in Tweed

Location: Kenilworth - Stoneleigh Abbey
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 09 March 2008
Further Comments: While on the edge of the River Avon, standing in a field at the abbey, a visitor became aware of a cross looking woman dressed in tweed staring at her from the opposite bank. The visitor crossed the river using a nearby bridge, believing she was trespassing and wanting to apologise to the woman. However, as the visitor neared the lady, she suddenly vanished.

Black Dog

Location: Keresley - Watery Lane and area around Hound's Hill
Type: Shuck
Date / Time: 1949
Further Comments: In 1949 a water worker walking along the lane early one morning encountered a large black dog with glowing eyes. The creature sat on its hind legs and watched as the worker crept around it. Other encounters are not dated. One states that a horse rider struck the demonic hound with his crop after the creature blocked his path. The dog exploded, throwing the rider from his horse.

Woman in White

Location: Kineton - Area known as Madam's Lane (no longer present?)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Nineteenth century?
Further Comments: A ghostly woman in white would upset anyone using the lane.

Battle of Edgehill Repeating

Location: Kineton - Edgehill Battle site
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 23 October (reoccurring), also 23 December 1642, lasting several nights
Further Comments: A bloody battle of the English Civil War, the fighting repeated itself for several successive nights in 1642, in front of dozens of witnesses. More recently, sounds of battle have been reported, though the visuals are not forthcoming. The date of the more recent battle sounds is said to be 23 October.

Prince Rupert's Horse

Location: Kineton - Marlborough Farm Camp (Second World War PoW camp, exact location not known), and Graveyard Spinney
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1953?
Further Comments: Two sentries reported seeing something white, resembling a horse, jump a hedge and disappear close to their camp. A police officer who patrolled the area encountered the ghost so frequently that he ignored the entity. Local folklore claimed a phantom horse foaming at the mouth, thought to have belonged to Prince Rupert, haunted the area.

Flying Coach

Location: King's Newnham - Exact location not known
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa early nineteenth century
Further Comments: A man who spotted a coach and six heading towards a closed gate opened it, only to watch the coach and horses pass overhead. One Handed Boughton, a local ghostly figure, was blamed for driving the phantom coach.

Priest

Location: Knowle - Baddesley Clinton moated house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The priest that haunts this house was mistakenly murdered by a master of the property, who thought the religious man was trying to strangle his wife. He has been observed in the library. Another ghost at home here is Rebecca Ferrers, a former owner who died in 1923.
