Green Eyed Monster

Location: Llanaber - Beach
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: 02 March 1975
Further Comments: Six girls stood around 180 meters from a three meter long creature which crossed the beach and entered the sea. Dusk at the time, it is difficult to see how they could see it clearly enough to describe the creature's eye colour as green.

Rosina Buckman

Location: Llanbadrig - Area around Wylfa power station
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1964 onwards
Further Comments: Rosina's ashes were moved when the power station was constructed on the site of her old house, and her pallid wraith now drifts around the vicinity. During the construction of the power station, several workers are said to have quit their jobs after encountering a phantom woman in white.

Canrig Bwt

Location: Llanberis - Unknown stone and general area
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A witch by the name of Canrig Bwt lived under a stone in this neighbourhood and would take children to eat their brains. A criminal condemned to death was told if he slew the witch, he would earn his freedom. The criminal managed to decapitate the woman, although for many years, children would still be told if they did not behave, Canrig Bwt would come for them.

Druid

Location: Llanddaniel Fab - Bryn Celli Ddu
Type: Other
Date / Time: Circa 1802
Further Comments: A farmer who thought the prehistoric monument contained treasure entered the chamber, only to come face-to-face with a pale ghostly druid. The farmer fled, but later returned and realised that the figure was just a tall white stone.

Petrified Thief

Location: Llandyfrydog - Just outside the village - Carreg Lleidr (Robber's Stone)
Type: Legend
Date / Time: 25 December, midnight (reoccurring)
Further Comments: Legend has it that an oddly shaped stone here was a thief who stole a bible, and while carrying it over his shoulder, was turned to rock. Every Christmas the stone runs three times around the field in which it stands.

Horseless Horse Rider

Location: Llanerchymedd (Llannerch-y-medd) - Road between Llangefni and Benllech, near the California Inn
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Thrown off her mount and killed, this shade now stands around the place where she broke her neck.

Waving Man

Location: Llanfaelrhys - Close to St Maelrhys Church
Type: Unknown Ghost Type
Date / Time: May 2018, between 22:00h - 03:00h
Further Comments: A strange tall man was spotted waving at cars during the night.

Grabbing Stone

Location: Llanfaes - Church (no longer standing)
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Circa twelfth century
Further Comments: A boy who tried to raid a pigeon's nest for its eggs was caught and held fast by a stone. After his parents prayed for three days and nights, the boy was released. The boy's handprint remained on the stone.

The Drowned

Location: Llanfaglan - Churchyard
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: June (reoccurring)
Further Comments: The shades of everyone whose bodies have been found along the coast near the village walk towards the church on a certain day in June, vanishing as they reach their graves.

Denzil Christie

Location: Llangoed - Llangoed Hall Hotel, kitchen area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This young man, reported in the kitchen and library areas of the hotel, was killed in a hunting accident during his stay here. Another story says that the ghost (or perhaps a second entity) is named Arginald, a lad who committed suicide during the 1940s.

Healing Eel

Location: Llangybi, near Pwllheli - St Cybi's Well
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The sick would dangle their feet into the waters of the well, hoping that the touch of the eel would increase their chances of recovery.

Thigh Stone

Location: Llanidan - Old Church of St Nidan
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Stone no longer present
Further Comments: A thigh shaped stone could once be found at the church and would magically return to the site if removed. In the twelfth century, an earl took the strange stone, chained it to a rock, and had it tossed into the sea. The following day, the thigh stone had returned; the earl instructed that no one should try to remove the stone again. It is thought the stone was stolen during the eighteenth century and this time the stone never returned home.

Rock Throwing

Location: Llanllechid - Unknown farm
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 1758
Further Comments: The occupants of this farm were injured by an entity which removed and threw rocks from a nearby river. Clergymen from Bangor who game to banish the presence were themselves driven away. The family were said to have finally moved out.

Light Flicker

Location: Llanrug - Seiont Manor Hotel
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Said to be friendly, the entity in this hotel limits itself to causing lights to flicker.

Growling

Location: Llanystumdwy - Ty Newydd Writers' Centre
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A ghostly dog can be heard growling in the library. The same area is reputed to be haunted by a little boy who moves books around, as well as another ghostly male presence which has been felt close to the place where David Lloyd George died.

Fairy Cattle

Location: Llyn Arenig - Llyn Arenig Fach
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Said to be a fairy lake, one farmer who found a young bull on the edge of the water and took it home had his entire herd taken away from him - a little man came out from the lake and led the animals into its water.

White Circle

Location: Llyn Dulyn - Waters of the lake
Type: Other
Date / Time: 23 April 1962
Further Comments: A witness sitting on rocks on the water's edge watched something white and circular, between six and ten foot (1.82 and 3.04 metres) in diameter move from the centre of the lake at high speed before submerging as it approached the shore. The lake has a fabled bad reputation - birds would shun the area and fish born in the waters would be mutated. Demons dwelt under the surface. A causeway that stretched out across the lake held 'the red alter', a stone that could summon rain. Finally, on certain nights of the year, the water would reflect faces of people soon to die.

One Good Turn

Location: Llyn Glas - Cabin by the lake
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Pre-twentieth century
Further Comments: A shepherd who would spend the summer months in this cabin gave his shirt to a woman, so she had something to wrap around her baby. The following morning, and every morning from that day on, he found a piece of silver left in an old clog in the cabin.

Birdless

Location: Llyn Idwal - General area
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A former Prince of Wales was said to have been drowned in the lake that now bears his name. The area is said to be devoid of birdsong (and some stories say no bird can ever fly over the lake). Another folktale says the lake is so old that it is the home to demons.

Taker of Excalibur

Location: Llyn Ogwen - General area
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The lake has been named as a likely place where Excalibur was taken and returned to - as the magical sword was thrown into the waters, a pallid arm caught the weapon and pulled it beneath the waves.

Fairy Bride

Location: Llyn y Dywarchen - Lake and a farm close by (likely no longer present)
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A fairy married a mortal man with her father's blessing, on the condition that the man would never let iron touch her flesh. They lived together for many years, and had several children, but one day her knee was struck by a stirrup and she vanished back to the fairy realm. While she was not allowed to walk human lands again, she was permitted to float on the lake while balanced on a piece of turf, which she did to continue to talk to her husband.

Young Woman

Location: Maentwrog - Plas y Dduallt
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Accompanied by the smell of freesia, the ghost of a young woman is reputed to haunt this building. Sometimes screaming is heard coming from the upper floor.

Two Former Airmen

Location: Maes Artro, Llanbedr - Former Second World War airbase
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000s
Further Comments: A training base for fighter pilots during the Second World War, a couple of the trainees have refused to go away post-mortem and are blamed for moving chairs and removing small items left laying around. The site has now been converted into a holiday village, with most of the original buildings destroyed.

Screaming Judge

Location: Mallwyd - A458, valley north of the village
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1550s onwards
Further Comments: A judge who pronounced the death sentence to eighty bandits was ambushed here by the remainder of the gang and brutally murdered. His screams are occasionally reported.

Camlan(n)

Location: Mawddwy - Camlan-uchaf (farm)
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This site is another, and perhaps a stronger, contender for being the site of Arthur's last fight against Mordred.
