The Other Mother

Location: Englefield Green - Private residence

Further Comments: The residents in this property experienced items being moved, lights which turned themselves on, and doors which slammed shut. One resident also heard whisperings, while a child on the site would talk to someone they described as their 'other mother', an older woman wearing grey. An old man was once also seen on the site, looking out of the empty living room window.

Heavy Footsteps

Location: Englefield Green - Wooded area off Coopers Hill Lane

Further Comments: While walking through this wooded area, one person heard heavy footsteps approaching along the footpath. No one could be seen, even though there was a disturbance on the ground. Even though it was a bright sunny day, the area felt oppressive, and the witness left the area terrified.

Aged Gentleman

Location: Esher - House lived in by Anna Porter, the author

Further Comments: Anna Porter claimed to have seen a man known to her enter a room and sit down, before suddenly rising and leaving again. She thought the gentleman looked unwell, and sent a servant over to his house, who discovered that he had died earlier in the day.

Girl in the Cupboard

Location: Esher - Marquis of Granby hotel

Further Comments: The young woman was locked in the cupboard and left to die; now, years later, her spirit is trapped inside the small room by a large family bible propped against the door.

Orange Flash

Location: Esher - Portsmouth Road, between Esher and Cobham

Further Comments: Seventy-one cars had their windscreen smashed along this road during 1953, with one driver reporting an orange flash along the empty road before his window shattered.

Agnes

Cloaked Figure

Further Comments: This area around the eastern gate is said to be home to a phantom concealed within a cloak. The sounds of partying have also been reported and are thought to come from the palace that was burnt down during the seventeenth century.

Horse and Coach

Drunken Man

Location: Farnham - Castle Street, & Castle Theatre

Further Comments: Seen climbing down from a phantom coach, this figure staggers across the road and enters a nearby house. The Castle Theatre that stands down this road is reportedly haunted by a suicide which plays with the lights and record player.

Dancing Girl

Location: Farnham - Farnham Castle

Further Comments: Though long since removed, the bell that was once housed in the castle tower can still be heard to chime. A shadowy figure haunts the guard room, while the long gallery is home to a phantom monk. A knight in armour appeared in certain rooms, and a lady in white glided along corridors. Lastly, a little dancing girl haunts a staircase, where she collapsed and died. Outside the castle, on the hill where it stands, disembodied footsteps are heard.

First ABC?

Further Comments: One of the first modern ABC sightings, Water Board worker Ernest Jellett staff spotted a large black cat. Over the following months, others witnessed a cheetah stalking the area - it was never caught.

Old Lady

Further Comments: This old lady, seen walking in the churchyard, disappears as she reaches the church. She is completely silent, though her mouth moves, as if trying to pass on information. The inside of the church is said to be haunted by phantom singing, plainchant, and Latin prayer.

Sounds of a Coach

Location: Farnham - The Hop Bag Hotel, Downing Street

Further Comments: The sounds of a coach pulling into the courtyard of this hotel have been heard, complete with whinnying horses. A ghostly girl in grey has also been seen waiting for the return of a lost lover killed on the outskirts of the town.

Lady in Grey

Location: Farnham - The Lion & Lamb public house

Further Comments: This local pub is reportedly haunted by a lady wearing a large hat. She has been seen in the bar area, and footsteps heard moving around the corridors at night. A woman dressed in maid's clothing has been seen in the courtyard.

Man in Uniform

Further Comments: A soldier dressed in an old bright uniform has been seen near the entrance of the building, while the back door is covered by a girl who looks like she comes from the early nineteenth century. The stairs are haunted by a couple who remain united by love until after death.

Fast Moving Old Lady

Location: Farnham - West Street

Further Comments: Limping, this OAP runs by witnesses at a rate of knots and disappears into the doorway of a house along the street. The same street is also haunted by a black dog which performs a similar action to that of the old woman.

Red Haired Lady

Location: Fetcham - Cottage (no longer standing), The Street

Further Comments: Two witnesses sleeping in a bedroom awoke to find a phantom older lady with red hair in their room. Legend says that she had drowned in a garden well. When the building fell empty, furniture could be heard being moved around inside. A later owner of the property dismissed the stories.

Moving Woman

Location: Fetcham - Private residence off The Street

Further Comments: Many people would witness a smoothly moving woman pass quickly through this property. Taps would turn off and on of their own accord, the bin lid would flap unaided all night, and one person watched a door handle turn and the door pushed open by an unseen force. Local research found a young girl had drowned in either a pool or pond close to the property and it was believed the ghostly figure to be her mother rushing to the scene.

Cauldron

Location: Frensham - Church

Further Comments: The cauldron in the church is said to have been taken from fairies that once lived nearby, though other accounts say it belonged to a white witch. Earthen mounds near the pond are thought to have been created by the Devil and are unlucky to disturb.

Man in Blue Suit

Location: Frimley - Johnson's Wax Factory

Date / Time: 1970s
Further Comments: Shortly after hearing a strange harp which was being played out of tune, a fitter carrying an armful of pipes spotted a man in a blue suit heading towards a door that he also had to pass through. The fitter shouted out and asked the suited man to hold the door open for him, however the man in the suit walked straight through the closed door. When the fitter discussed the incident the following morning, he was told the figure was the ghost of an accountant.
