Yellow Lady

Location: Pattingham - Private resident along Hall End Lane
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1952 (Lady), 1958 (Eye)
Further Comments: This phantom girl appeared twice during the same year. She looked to be in her 20s, possessing long blonde hair and wearing a yellow dress. A few years later, two people on the site spotted a strange blue eye starring from a knot hole in the floorboards - the eye remained looking around for several minutes before slowly vanishing.

Tall Figure

Location: Perton - Field by Richmond Drive
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: A witness walking their dog reported seeing a 'very tall' figure with a flowing coat appear, vanish, reappear and vanish again. While the witness did not feel afraid, the dog froze and began to whine.


A ghostly nun.

Nun

Location: Rocester - Mill Street
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This country lane is reputed to be haunted by a nun hanged in a nearby field, her execution thought have occurred in the 1100s and connected to activities at Rocester Abbey. The ghostly nun is sometimes seen as a scarecrow looking figure, and locals claim to have developed goosebumps when driving through the area, too afraid to look in their rear-view mirrors as they feel something is sitting just behind them.

Driver

Location: Rolleston - Railway station and level crossing
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The phantom of a man killed at this junction is said to walk along the platform looking for his lorry, the vehicle destroyed in a collision.

Disturbing Figure

Location: Rugeley - A460 between Rugeley and Hednesford
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1980s-2001
Further Comments: This phantom man with a disturbing face is said to manifest on the rear seat of a vehicle and is only visible to the driver if they turn around. The entity is said to have caused several accidents along the road.

Grey Lady

Location: Rugeley - Aelfgar Further Education Centre
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Seen several times over the years, this phantom woman in grey clothing wears her hair up in a bun, a large hairpin holding it up.

Monk

Location: Rugeley - Albion Street
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown, but in living memory
Further Comments: While walking along this street at night, one witness reported seeing a shadowy figure resembling a monk.

Popping Bottles

Location: Rugeley - Ash Tree Inn
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 1998-2000
Further Comments: Poltergeist-like tricks were reported from the inn, including the tops popping out of bottles, sounds of smashing glasses, till trays full of cash flying off the bar, and flickering lights.

Grey Lady

Location: Rugeley - Blithfield Hall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: Home of five ghosts in total, the grey lady has been seen within the building with a set of keys dangling from her belt. The screams of a man falling down a well (no longer present) are still heard in the garden, a tall man dressed in black rubbing a ring stands in the drawing room, while two other ghostly women have been reported, one seen and the other heard as her dress rustles down a corridor.

Hound

Location: Rugeley - Britannia Inn
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A phantom black dog, unlikely to be a shuck, has been reported to walk around the corridors of the inn.

Sweeping Brush

Location: Rugeley - Bush Drive
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: A yard brush swept a path without human help and a lawnmower rolled uphill at this residence. Other more 'normal' poltergeist occurrences included the ringing of doorbells and self-opening and closing doors. Some attributed the paranormal happenings to the ghosts of three people killed in an aircraft crash that occurred in 1938 on the corner of Fortescue Lane and Green Lane.

Ford Capri

Location: Rugeley - Hednesford Road
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2006
Further Comments: While travelling along this road at dusk, one driver spotted a Ford Capri type car following them out of Rugeley in their rear view mirror. The Capri appeared to only have parking lights on. Checking their mirror again after taking a corner, the driver noticed the other car had vanished - there were no other turnings it could have taken and travelled at too great a speed to stop.

The Graduate

Location: Rugeley - Old Chancel
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The Old Grammar School once stood by the side of this building, and the ghostly young man wearing his graduation gown and cap is believed to be one of its former residents. The murderer Dr William Palmer is also thought to haunt the site, as his former home stands by the Old Chancel grounds.


The ghost of Christina.

Christina Collins

Location: Rugeley - The Bloody Steps, along the canal
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Murdered in 1839, the ghost of Christina Collins is said to manifest in the early hours of the morning. A variant of the legend says Christina's blood seeps from the steps (even though the current steps are not the ones present in her lifetime). The witness of a more recent sighting of a phantom woman here said that the entity wore 1950's clothing.

Governess

Location: Seighford - Seighford Hall Hotel, Room 8
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown (Governess), 29 March 1785 (Catherine Elde)
Further Comments: A governess based at the hall two centuries ago, the woman killed herself when her love for the master of the property became clear. She manifests to children who stay in room 8. The rustling of her dress may also be heard down the corridors of the building. Mr Eld, a visitor to the hall in 1785, spotted a misty figure which resembled his mother, Catherine Elde, although Mr Eld knew his mother to be alive. Two days later, Mr Eld received word his mother had died at the time of the sighting.


The phantom farmer and his horse.

Diggory Mayne

Location: Shifnal - Lizard Lane area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: After a farmer by the name of Diggory Mayne died, his property became haunted by strong winds which upset horses and caused doors to bang. The wind ceased after the removal of the farmer's body, although his ghost soon started to appear in the area riding a horse.

Wolf on Hind Legs

Location: Stafford - German War Cemetery, Camp Road, between Stafford and Cannock
Type: Werewolf
Date / Time: April 2007
Further Comments: In two separate sightings, two men reported a large hairy creature standing on its hind legs, between 180 - 200 centimetres in height. One of the men approached it, but the creature ran off.

Dr Mafsen

Location: Stafford - High House
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa 1973
Further Comments: Keeper of the local asylum and reputed to haunt High House, Dr Mafsen once manifested during day light hours on at least one occasion. The ghost featured in the local press in 1973, after Ian Tavernor volunteered to spend a week in the house, armed with a cutlass. Just in case.

Bright Flashes

Location: Stafford - October 1975
Type: UFO
Date / Time: October 1975
Further Comments: A witness spotted two objects the shape of spinning tops which flashed brightly as they followed each other across the sky.

Bangs

Location: Stafford - Private residence, Meyrick Road
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: Circa 1963
Further Comments: One witness reported growing up in a noisy house with many taps and bangs. On one occasion, the household were awakened by a crash which sounded like a piano being pushed down the staircase, although the source of the sound could not be discovered.

Orange Fire

Location: Stafford - Skies in the area
Type: UFO
Date / Time: Summer 1974
Further Comments: An orange ball of fire with an undulating motion was seen over the area.

Perhaps Nothing

Location: Standon - Standon Hall
Type: Other
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Ghost hunting events have been organised at the site, although it is not thought the property had a history of any hauntings.

Man with White Hair

Location: Stoke on Trent - A34, from Manchester heading towards Stoke on Trent
Type: Unknown Ghost Type
Date / Time: Sunday evening in September 1993
Further Comments: Two people driving towards Stoke on Trent watched a man with slicked white hair standing by the roadside. He stared into the car as they drove past, and as they rounded a bend a little further ahead, the white haired man appeared once again, standing by the roadside in front of them.

Flying Mushroom

Location: Stoke on Trent - Above Buckhall
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 15 February 1985, 20:30h
Further Comments: A woman, her husband and his mother watched glowing orange, mushroom shaped object for an hour as it hovered overhead, before moving away quite quickly towards the Stoke area.

Children

Location: Stoke on Trent - City General Hospital
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late twentieth century
Further Comments: The old block containing the paediatric ward was believed to be haunted by several children. One doctor running through the block after being bleeped saw seven children playing in the area. It was not until later she realised that the ward was closed and empty.
