Further Comments: It is said that the church here was once pulled down to make way for a new building - after the last brick was removed and night fell, the church rebuilt itself; the builders took the hint, and the church has remained standing ever since. It was said that the hobman, a type of fairy, was responsible.

Further Comments: Sharing a bedroom with his brother, this witness awoke to see several small bright lights enter the room and dance around before landing on his brother's bed. The lights changed to small people who walked to the head of the bed. They were all dressed in very colourful clothes, singing and playing musical instruments. They finally disappeared the way they had entered.

Further Comments: A phantom woman, said to be fairy in nature, would be seen washing clothing in this river, while holding a candle in one hand.

Further Comments: The little people are reported to gather here once a year for secret planning sessions.
Location: Mellor (Lancashire) - Moorland in the area

Further Comments: The fairies that frequent this remote area dress in green and often carry hunting weapons - the last one seen possessed a whip. It was once said that under the site was a lost city which sunk for some unnamed reason - church bells could be heard on still nights.
Eildon Hills, Melrose.

Further Comments: The fairy queen kidnapped the Scottish hero Thomas the Rhymer in this area, returning him from the fairy kingdom in the same place seven (or three) years later. Thomas is reported to still live under the hills, preparing for the day his country needs him once more. The latter part of the same tale is also said about King Arthur.

Further Comments: Driven from her land by the onset of farming, a fairy maiden would return on some nights, crying over the land which once belonged to her and her people.

Further Comments: Recognised by his extremely loud call, normally heard around midnight, this fellow has never been seen.

Further Comments: It was at the nearby river that a woman once found a fairy child that she took home. The little creature, with red eyes, cried constantly, and would not stop until returned to the place it was found. If your ear is placed by the ground, you can hear fairy music within the hill.

Further Comments: Tiny people dressed in green would be briefly seen by locals visiting the site during the summer months. If alone. to catch a glance of the figures would be considered lucky, but if in a larger party, any witnesses to the fairies would be struck with ill-fortune. When the hill was being cut by railway engineers, the banks would collapse at night. Fairies were blamed for the disruption and navvies requested additional money in dealing with the paranormal problem (which was granted).

Further Comments: The fairies found here are full of mischief; the critters once chased a visitor to the village, who managed to seek shelter within the grange just before a pitchfork embedded itself in the door.

Further Comments: Green fairy islands could be seen off the coast here, thought to be heavily populated and connected to the mainland via a secret undersea network.

Further Comments: Like many of his siblings, this hob helped keep the area clean and tidy. The creature left when a man offered him a hooded cloak to wear during winter.

Further Comments: A changeling child was whipped and left at a crossroads after being substituted for a healthy human baby.

Further Comments: The well took its name from the cheese which travellers would leave for the resident fairies.

Further Comments: It was said around this time that several little people climbed the trees of the forest, possessing catlike attributes for better balance.
Old Knobbley.
Location: Mistley (Essex) - Old Knobbley (tree), Furze Hill

Further Comments: The eight hundred year old tree known as Old Knobbley is supposed to have been a refuge for witches hiding from Matthew Hopkins. In 2022, a glowing ball of light was recorded as it flew around a person swinging on a tree rope.

Further Comments: A helpful brownie would help with the harvest each year, much to the delight to the farmer. However, when he finally decided to reward the entity with milk and bread, the creature left him.

Further Comments: While following the sound of music, a fisherman ran his boat ashore in the isle of fairies. After conversing with the tiny islanders (who sang their home was Ever Day) and partaking of their food, the fisherman tried to escape with pockets full of fairy gold; the fairies beat him up and left the man on the shore of Morecambe.

Further Comments: Once upon a time, the stream dried up and the lack of water caused hardship to local farmers. Farmers who had been respectful to the fairies were helped by them - their crops grew and animals flourished.

Further Comments: John Kelleher captured a leprechaun under a rock on the mountain and agreed to let the creature go on the condition that it gave him a purse of coins. The little man told Kelleher that if he dug where he stood, he would find the purse. Kelleher let the leprechaun go, stuck a stick in the ground to mark the position and went home to find a shovel. Returning a short time later, the man found hundreds of identical sticks all stuck in the earth around the area.
