Further Comments: Seen dozens of times over the nineties, this ABC matched the description common over the country - large and black.

Black Cat with Cubs

Location: Leeds (West Yorkshire) - Between Headingley train station and Burley Park station

Date / Time: 03 June 2009 and 28 May 2010
Further Comments: Workers on the track have seen a large black cat, around two metres in length, twice. On the first occasion the feline appeared to have two cubs, one light brown and the other black.

Long Black Cat

Location: Lighthorne Heath (Warwickshire) - Leam Road area

Further Comments: One man watched a long black cat walk from the basketball court, some one hundred metres away, towards him. The creature stopped its approach around fifteen metres distant and watched the witness for a few minutes before walking off towards the lower village of Lighthorne across National Trust land.

Attacked Collie

Location: Longhope (Gloucestershire) - Old Moor's Wood

Further Comments: A collie named Basil was attacked by a large creature in the woods; the vet who stitched up the ten centimetre tear on the neck said the injury looked as if it was caused by a cat.

Beast of Lytham

Location: Lytham St Anne (Lancashire) - Green Drive area

Further Comments: Described as being the size of a collie dog, light in colour with large ears and a huge mouth, this large cat was spotted by more than twenty people over the period of a few weeks.

Bob Tailed Cat

Location: Manchester (Greater Manchester) - Area around the canal near the Pomona Public House, Old Trafford

Further Comments: Anglers fishing in this area reported a cat the size of a cocker spaniel which often appeared at day and night.

'White Hyena'

Location: Margam (West Glamorgan) - Lakeside Golf Range

Date / Time: December 2005
Further Comments: After receiving reports of a large cat, police officers called to the golf range observed a strange creature, a third bigger than an Alsatian and white in colour. One witness said the front legs were bigger than the hind legs and the creature had a long tail which reached the ground. However, an animal warden would soon go on to recover the animal, which proved to be a German Shepherd/Husky cross, slightly different to the given description.

Beast of Balbirnie

Further Comments: Over thirty sightings of a large cat were made in Fife over a twelve month period. Several animal carcasses were found torn to pieces and a ten centimetre long cat footprint was found in soft earth.

Further Comments: While out walking her dog, this witness came across a large black cat close by; the feline looked at her before slowly walking off.

Fen Tiger Returns

Location: Melbourn (Cambridgeshire) - Fowlmere Road

Further Comments: Cyclist Gavin Elliott-Turner encountered two large black cats in the snow while travelling to work. The creatures ran off across fields, leaving clearly visible footprints.

Large Black Cat

Further Comments: A milkman on his early morning round reported seeing a large black cat in the village - the sighting unnerved the man to such a degree he quickly left the scene and refused to return to complete his work.

Red Cat

Further Comments: This ABC, possessing a vivid red coat, was blamed for the carcasses of several deer that appeared to have been eaten.

Leaping Cat

Location: Milton Keynes (Buckinghamshire) - Bleak Hall area, close to railway bridge

Further Comments: Two teenage friends heard something behind them and watched as a large black cat jumped out into the road. It made eye contact with the witnesses before jumping off again into woodland.

Beast of Buchan

Location: Mintlaw (Aberdeenshire) - Woods near The Beaches

Further Comments: Local man James Maskame watched a large black cat-like creature leave the woods before running across nearby farmland. This is just one of several in the area, where local media have dubbed the cat 'The Beast of Buchan'.

Further Comments: A large cat walked over to a stationary car and stared into the driver's eyes, face to face, through the side window. The creature then took off into the night.

Two Kittens

Location: Nether Stowey (Somerset) - Field off South Lane

Further Comments: Builders on a construction site watched two large black cats on a nearby field. One of the men went to have a closer look and additionally spotted a pair of younger cats; kittens, but much larger than domestic animals.

Further Comments: From around one hundred metres distant, a witness spotted a large black panther-like cat drinking from a ditch at a field edge.

Cat Attack

Further Comments: A man working in the undergrowth was attacked by a lynx-like creature that tried to bite his hands. Luckily, he was wearing thick gardening gloves that protected him.

Road Crossing Cat

Location: North Walsham (Norfolk) - Northeast of village, close to Bacton Woods / Verona woods

Further Comments: Four witnesses slowly driving in this area spotted a large cat walking from a wheat field, down a bank and across the road. When the witnesses stopped their vehicle, the cat ran up the opposite bank and into Verona woods.

Large Cat

Location: Northallerton (North Yorkshire) - Hailstone Moor, near Scholla Lane

Date / Time: December 2011
Further Comments: One man reported two sightings of a big cat on consecutive days in December 2011. The creature was bigger than a domestic cat and stood against a fence which was later used as a reference point to measure it; the creature was estimated to be around five foot (150 centimetres) long.

Stafford Beast

Location: Norton Bridge (Staffordshire) - General area

Further Comments: There were several reports of a large cat in this region over the 2008 summer, including one report of a pet sheep found dead (a local 'expert' saying that a big cat had attacked it).
