Further Comments: Museum owner Gordon Boswell reported in the local press that he had seen and heard a phantom little girl who is thought to have with one of the caravans onsite. The Xstream Paranormal group also reported to have heard the little girl laughing.

Further Comments: A team of ghost hunters which stayed here one night claimed to contact a young boy wearing breeches and a flat cap. The entity claimed to have arrived at the public house by train and was now unable to leave. Another ghost took the form of an elderly gentleman dressed in grey.

Further Comments: Cruelly treated by Sir Ralph Maddison, a local woman cursed the squire, promising the three family marriages would end with the bride drowning. The woman took her own life in the lake, her ghostly form continuing to haunt the area. Over a four-hundred-year period, three Maddison women drowned in the lake, although the white lady continued to appear after the death of the third lady.

Further Comments: Together with a friend working behind a bar in an otherwise empty inn, this witness reported watching a young woman in black walk from the back of the pub and enter the toilets. They waited for her to emerge, wanting to comment to her not buying a drink but using the facilities, but after fifteen minutes one witness grew concerned and went to see if she was okay, but the toilets were empty...

Further Comments: This decapitated shade nicknamed 'Strubby' is the result of a Lancaster bomber crash near the hangar area during the Second World War.

Further Comments: While claims were thrown around that a poltergeist, nicknamed the Butler, lurked the farmhouse while tapping on walls and banging a gong, the landlord blamed the sounds on horses in a nearby stable and bats that had managed to enter the property.

Further Comments: After the death of his wife (see West Deeping, Lincolnshire) this grief-stricken individual jumped from the footbridge over the railway track and was hit by the train from London, which killed him instantly. The incident is re-enacted once a year.

Further Comments: After a widower remarried, his former wife began to haunt their old home until her spirit was banished into a box by a clergyman. The spirit remained quiet until the widower died and the cottage was demolished - during the destruction, the box containing the spirit was damaged and the entity emerged with such vigour that the workmen fled.

Further Comments: A phantom white calf was said to appear around these ruins. One female witness spotted it, although the creature was not visible to the people accompanying her. She claimed that being born at twilight had enabled her to see what others could not.

Further Comments: While out walking with her husband, this witness briefly spotted the flashing image of a person. The witness said the area was completely void of birds, insects or other wildlife.

Further Comments: This house was built out of stones from the ruined Catley Abbey. A carved stone head which was incorporated into the building was said to move every night, until the house was demolished.

Further Comments: A long barrow located here is said to contain most of the bones of a dragon killed by Sir Hugh Bardolph in the area. The dragon's severed head was sent to the king.

Further Comments: Heard ascending the staircase and moving down corridors at the dead of night, the cause of these footsteps has yet to be seen.

Further Comments: During the early part of the twentieth century, a man driving a horse and cart home reported his horse bolting after nearing a cyclist who travelled on the wrong side of the road. When the horse was brought under control, the cyclist had vanished. Another source stated that between 1988 and 1998 there were three accidents along the road caused by vehicles swerving to avoid a bike, although the bike could never be seen after the event.

Further Comments: The date of this woman's death is marked by her phantom sobs heard emanating from the church. Her husband was so distressed by the death that he took his own life the following day (see Tallington, Lincolnshire).

Further Comments: Michael Bentine, of The Goon Show fame, worked here during the war. After a period of leave, Bentine headed towards his hut and walked past a friend and fellow officer known as 'Pop', whom he greeted. Pop nodded his response and continued walking. The following morning, Michael discovered Pop had died two nights previous. A nearby building is also reported haunted, this time by a WAAF officer who killed herself after her boyfriend died during a bombing raid over Germany.

Further Comments: Supposedly haunted by a woman bricked up in a room after she died, this house developed the reputation as one of the most haunted in England. When psychical researchers tried to find the house in 1967, they decided the property called Sparrows Hall that they found could not be the correct house, leaving them searching for a different (and possibly now lost) site.
