Esmeralda

Location: Stoke Golding - Three Horseshoes public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1970s onwards
Further Comments: In the early twentieth century, Esmeralda fell into the well at this pub and drowned. Nothing supernatural occurred until renovations took place in the 1970s, after which poltergeist activity was experienced in the kitchen, footsteps were heard around the site, and occasionally a young woman in a long skirt was seen walking through a wall.

Further Comments: This village was once said to be well known for its fairy rings and fairy dances.

Large Saucer

Location: Stoney Stanton - Skies over the village
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 01 October 2011, 19:00h
Further Comments: With lights on either side and a flashing one on top, this large saucer shaped object was reported moving slowly across the sky.

Mary McDonnagh

Location: Sutton Cheney - Hercules Inn
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000s
Further Comments: Mary McDonnagh had her hands cut off for stealing brandy. She has been reported to be seen wearing a white cap, wandering through the restaurant area. Staff to this day report sightings, and objects have been seen to move from place to place.

Tapping Crucifix

Location: Syston - Newly built private residence
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 2016
Further Comments: A couple in bed heard a nearby rapping. In the dim light they could see a crucifix, hanging on a wall, moving. The motion was described as if an invisible hand was lifting the bottom of the cross and tapping it against the wall. As soon as the light was turned on, the tapping ceased.

Who Woke the Vicar's Wife?

Location: Thornton - St Peter's Church, and vicarage
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A vicar here was once forced to exorcise his own home after his wife complained she was being woken during the night by a ghost.

Lady in White

Location: Thringstone - A512, near Grace Dieu Priory
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1961
Further Comments: The pale spectral form of a woman has been reported on the roadside near the ruins of the priory. She was last seen by a police officer in 1961.

Take it Down

Location: Tilton on the Hill - Church
Type: Legend - Old Nick
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The Devil became upset at the building of this church, so during the night would undo the construction work. It is unclear who or what motivated the Devil to cease his actions. Another story says a visitor to the site watched a monk dressed in black walk through the church and vanish at the pulpit.

Everard Digby

Location: Tilton on the Hill - Old Manor House
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Early nineteenth century
Further Comments: A member of the gang who planned the failed Gunpowder Plot, Everard would open doors and throw items around, and could be heard walking around in heavy boots. The local vicar tried to lay the ghost by ringing the church bells and saying prayers.

Squire

Location: Wartnaby - Unnamed lane near the village
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1920s
Further Comments: Dressed in a white shirt and nightcap, the ghostly rider upon his steed was thought to have belonged to the Quorn Hunt, a group of eighteenth century eccentrics that torn through the local countryside dressed ready for bed.

Grey Lady

Location: Wigston - Oadby and Wigston Borough Council's offices
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 21 Century
Further Comments: Workers in the building are said to have seen a grey lady and heard a child crying. The building featured in the Channel 4 programme 'Man vs Weird' broadcast June 2014, although nothing paranormal was recorded.


Wistow Hall

Horse and Carriage

Location: Wistow - Hall driveway
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown, but Autumn
Further Comments: A piece of folklore says a ghostly horse and carriage were seen to turn into the driveway of the hall.

Hairy Earth

Location: Wistow - Wistow's Grave
Type: Legend
Date / Time: 01 June (reoccurring)
Further Comments: Concealing the heir to the kingdom of Mercia's body, this grave is reported to sprout hair throughout the month of June, starting on the first of the month.

Monk walking his Dog

Location: Woodhouse Eaves - Beacon Hill
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Escorted by his phantom pooch as he drifts along the hillside, this monk has the grinning face of a skull.
