Hanged Man

Location: Market Harborough - The Sun public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: The cellar is reported to be haunted by male criminal hanged many years ago. When the Northants Haunted team investigated the building, they reported shouting coming from the empty cellar, as well as contacting the spirit of a twelve year old boy.

John Fothergill

Location: Market Harborough - Three Swans Hotel
Type: Curse
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The portrait of John Fothergill that hangs above the bar is no longer touched - if removed from its spot a disaster befalls the handler or hotel.

Georgian Coach

Location: Market Harborough - Unidentified long road in the area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Pre-1924
Further Comments: This Georgian-era coach pulled by four ghostly horses is supposed to be connected to a well-known house in the area. One folktale says a young person mistook the phantom coach as 'real' and asked the driver for directions; coach and horses vanished, leaving only the smell of brimstone.

Grey Figure

Location: Markfield - Graveyard
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: Several witnesses are said to have seen the grey phantom as it walked past gravestones.

Busy Cats

Location: Measham - General area
Type: ABC
Date / Time: 2000
Further Comments: The start of the twenty first century saw a record number of puma sightings in Leicestershire, exceeding 150 reports of the creature(s).

Dark Figures

Location: Measham - Michael's Plaice fish & chip shop (no longer open)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2007
Further Comments: After the owner encountered ghostly dark figures and experienced poltergeist activity, Spirit Team UK were called in to investigate. They reported an old man hanging around in the upper part of the building, while a small child was encountered downstairs.

Woman

Location: Melton Mowbray - Institute of Package (located at Sysonby Lodge)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1989
Further Comments: A workman claimed to have seen a woman enter the reception area before walking through a wall. The phantom, considered benevolent, took a dislike to plastic flowers which would be knocked off surfaces and created the smell of freesias on the staircase.

Bloody Footprint

Location: Misterton - St Leon's church
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Cornered in the churchyard by a band of robbers and faced with certain death, a peddler declared that whoever struck him down would be forced to haunt the site of his murder. This failed to prevent the peddler being murdered, but after the killer was caught and executed, a bloody footprint appeared at the scene of the crime and is still said to appear once a year.

Rapping

Location: Mountsorrel - Private residence, Danvers Road
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: January - February 1924
Further Comments: A poltergeist outbreak centred itself around Gwen Boon, a thirteen-year-old girl who lived with her parents and brother, and would produce rapping from walls and floors. When asked, the entity produced the sound of a saw, and rapped the correct number of cigarettes contained within a concealed case and matches within a matchbox.

Shawled Woman

Location: Narborough - Road outside Narborough Hall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1950s
Further Comments: An older woman wearing a shawl emerged from a wall, crossed the road, and vanished through a hedge (since removed).

Five to Four Fred

Location: Newton Burgoland - The Belper Arms
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 03:55 or 15:55 (reoccurring)
Further Comments: Only acting at certain times of the day (hence his nickname), Fred has been known to slap or stroke female witnesses, and to try to smother male ones.

Lady Jane Grey

Location: Newtown Linford - Bradgate Park
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 24 December (Reoccurring)
Further Comments: Raised here as a child, Lady Jane's tormented shade now haunts both the mansion and the grounds surrounding the building. One ghost story says that she arrives in a coach pulled by four black headless horses at the ruins of Bradgate on Christmas Eve.

Lady Jane Grey

Location: Newtown Linford - Bridge near the ruins of Bradgate House
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 23 January (reoccurring)
Further Comments: A piece of folklore places the phantom of Lady Jane Grey in a coach passing over a bridge close to her ruins of her birthplace on 23 January, although the reason for this date is unclear.

Hunchback

Location: Oxenden Magma - St Helen's Church
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A ghostly person with a hunch back has been reported around the church area.

Decapitated Figure

Location: Quorndon - Footpath between Quorndon and Barrow upon Soar
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A headless phantom has been reported in this area.

Porter

Location: Rothley - Railway Station
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Winter (woman in blue) (reoccurring), last seen 2000s, & porter seen early 1980s
Further Comments: A ghostly porter was spotted at the station by a member of the public returning from a party at 2am one Sunday morning. The building is also home to a ghostly dog and its owner (they were killed on the line a short distance away prior to the start of the Second World War), and a phantom woman in blue who appears in the waiting room.

Mover

Location: Rothley - The Grange public house
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 1970s?
Further Comments: The enthusiastic polt at work in this pub was well known to the locals.

Gregory

Location: Rothley - Woodman's Stroke public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A tall ghost nicknamed Gregory is said to bring luck to anyone who spots him in this pub.

Figure

Location: Sapcote - Bridge between village and Stoney Stanton, was known as Scholar's Bridge (may no longer stand)

Further Comments: A supernatural agency which lurked at this bridge at night was said to be a reoccurring terror for local villagers.

Woman in White

Location: Seaton - B672 Road, under the Seaton Viaduct bridge
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 12 April 2007, 01:01h
Further Comments: While travelling home, a driver spotted a woman in white clothing, with a pale face, standing by a gate by one of the bridge arches. Finding it strange for someone to be there, the driver slowed down to take a closer look. The figure was completely motionless. The driver passed her, and looking into the rear view mirror, realised the figure had vanished.

Nun with a Bag

Location: Shepshed - Grace Dieu Priory and road running by
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: This aging figure is thought to be a nun, though the fact that she carries a shopping bag appears to cast doubt on this belief. She has also been seen on the roadside, and at least one bus has stopped to pick her up.

Turpin

Location: Sibson - Road close to Cock Inn

Further Comments: A ghostly highwayman, wearing a tricorn hat with a red coat and identified as Dick Turpin as many phantom highwaymen are, would occasionally be seen at night.

Woman

Location: Skeffington - Unnamed manor house in the area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A manor house in this area supposedly had a phantom woman who would manifest on the drive way during daylight hours.

Too Haunted

Location: Snarestone - Snarestone Hall (no longer standing)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Pre-1835
Further Comments: Local folklore claimed the hall to have been demolished in 1835 due to hauntings.

Flashing Lights

Location: Stanton - Exact area not known
Type: UFO
Date / Time: Early 2000s
Further Comments: A low flying circular object was spotted by two friends as it moved across the sky towards them. As it approached, they noticed two small flashing lights on the side of the craft that grew in intensity until the glare became blinding. The witnesses shielded their eyes to avoid the light; as they did so the object made a strange sound and disappeared - no trace could be seen in the sky.
