Further Comments: The headless woman who reputedly rode around the castle moat was identified as Lady Bettina de Tonbridge, forcefully removed from her home after her husband's debts resulted in the castle being taken by the bailiff. Betty had been ill for a while, and after being taken to a cottage hospital, died soon after. The castle has recently become popular with ghost hunting groups, who report screams, footsteps, and other strange occurrences.

Further Comments: The stones of the barrow, said to be the site of a great battle and covering the remains of a Black Prince, are impossible to count (according to folklore). A secret tunnel containing treasure is reputed to run between this location and the St Peter & St Paul Church in Trottiscliffe.

Further Comments: A very large black hound is said to stalk the village, and may have attacked two locals in 1745, killing one and severely injuring the other.

Further Comments: A pair of witnesses reported seeing a smiling man and woman dressed in ornate green clothing approaching them down this road. The figures in green disappeared on a bend of the road just before both parties should have met.

Further Comments: A ghost was blamed when alarms would be set off without explanation and locked doors found unlocked. More recently, it is reported that a boy in Georgian clothes has been spotted outside the fort, and mild poltergeist activity is experienced within.

Further Comments: While the normal pub poltergeist activities also apply here (visitors have been poked and electrical appliances have been unplugged), there have also been sightings of a woman in red drifting silently near the staircase and of a child in the upper part of the building.

Further Comments: Local children have reported hearing drumming in an area which is believed to be haunted by a young drummer who died there.

Further Comments: When this large Victorian building was in the process of being decommissioned, a single police officer would be based there during the night shift. One officer working late heard a male voice shouting and furniture being moved and thrown around upstairs. The officer followed the sounds, and upon reaching a room where the noise seemed to be coming from, flung the door open. The shouting suddenly ceased, and the room found completely devoid of life. Mentioning the event a few days later to a colleague, the officer was told he was not the first to have an experience at the site.

Further Comments: The haunt of a Second World War airman, this figure may also be to blame for throwing bricks at passing vehicles.

Further Comments: A police officer spotted the bottom two thirds of a figure on the staircase of this building. The figure wore soft leather boots, a long black cape and a silver doublet with a sword hanging from it. The figure disappeared up the stairs. The officer gave chase, but no one could be found - the only way out was back past the officer.

Further Comments: The mistress of King Henry II, known as 'one of the great beauties of the 12th Century', returned after death and would occasionally walk along the top of the castle wall.

Further Comments: This spirit was often heard walking down the corridor, and opening and closing doors. Pets often watched an invisible presence walk through the living room.

Further Comments: One former owner of the property claimed to have seen a phantom dog run up the staircase and disappear into a room that was known as the 'ghost room'. The room had the reputation of being haunted by a resident who took his own life after some romantic related rejection.

Further Comments: Builders working on the building heard footsteps crossing an upper story floor which had just been removed. Doors have also been heard to bang shut unaided by human hand, and an electrician left the site after his lamp was thrown through the air.

Further Comments: Whitstable was founded after the Devil tried to steal the buildings of Canterbury - he was caught, and dropped the stolen houses eight miles away, where they stayed.

Further Comments: Members of the George Fitt Social Club heard organ music fill the room and initially thought it to have come from the nearby former cinema, until they investigated and found the site empty.

Further Comments: A group of four people in the church yard at night reported seeing a small entity with glowing red eyes run by them. They quickly left after hearing a strange whistling and watching a fast moving cloud cover the area. There are other stories which involve small figures seen standing by the edge of the woods.

Further Comments: After discovering his wife had been seduced by an Irishman, an officer duelled and killed her lover. Several years later, the wife discovered the body, and realised the Irishman was in fact a woman. The spirit of a woman now walks the area, though none can say for sure which woman it is. Footsteps would also be heard walking through sealed doorways, locked doors would be found open, and a poltergeist lifted a radio off a shelf in front of one witness before smashing it on the floor.

Further Comments: A woman spotted the apparition of a lady wearing blue clothing move through the driveway and approach the back door. The woman opened the door, but the lady had vanished. Another occupier of the property had also seen the same figure but had dismissed the sighting as a 'trick of the eye'.
