Further Comments: A slight retelling of the phantom hitchhiker myth, it is reported that a man waiting outside the cemetery caught a bus late one night. He walked past the conductor and climbed to the top deck. When the conductor followed him up, he was nowhere to be seen.

Further Comments: While her parents looked around a house with the intent to buy, a child spend several minutes talking to a man in the hallway as he did his ironing. When the child mentioned this to her mother, the nearby owner was shocked; the house had been placed on the market after the death of her husband, who would do the ironing in the hallway.

Further Comments: This horror inspired theme pub would not be complete without an accompanying ghost story or two. Shadowy figures have upset customers sitting downstairs, quiet voices whisper in the men's toilet, and staff have reported something invisible prodding them.

Further Comments: At least two flats along this road were said to be haunted by an aging woman wearing grey. After one of the flats was decorated, the figure was not seen again.

Further Comments: Two decorators fled this house while working there shortly after the Second World War. They had found a concealed door with a lead seal; forcing it open, they were overwhelmed by cold air and by a presence forcing them to back away.

Further Comments: Investigated by Nottingham Ghost Investigations over a period of years, they reported on an entity which attacked a woman and would manifest as a tall, hooded figure. The movement of a large double bed was caught on video.

Further Comments: Ghostly entities said to haunt this old property including a monk, a young man, a woman, a teenage girl, and Nell Gwyn, who would stay at the nearby Bestwood Lodge with Charles II. The Nottingham Ghost Investigations team visited the site and reported experiencing poltergeist activity.

Further Comments: The Nottingham Ghost Investigations team investigated this site after occupants reporting seeing shadowy figures, being touched, hearing voices, and the feeling of being watched in the cellar.

Further Comments: Occupants were woken in the early hours of the morning by the sound of a heavy trunk being dragged down the staircase to the basement. Witnesses could see nothing other than the family dog cowering in a corner.

Further Comments: A figure wearing a grey robe has been spotted wandering around at night, though vanishes when people start to look for the figure. Nurses who sleep in one of the rest rooms have been woken up by a black nurse - no nurse matching her description works at the centre.

Further Comments: A woman travelled to Nottingham by train after receiving news that her mother had been admitted to hospital after having a fall. During the journey, the woman spotted her mother on the train carriage, who smiled and vanished. After arriving in Nottingham, the woman was informed that her mother had died.

Further Comments: Workers at the factory sometimes reported a phantom woman in one of the mixing rooms, which was once Daybrook Station. After improvements were made to this part of the plant, Mabel never returned.

Further Comments: Unable to handle the high pressure role of running the pub, this man took his own life - the shade remains in the building. A highwayman is also suspected of haunting the inn. The caves under the pub are said to be haunted by a young child, a four year old girl.

Location: Nottingham - Sherwood Rise Tunnel near former New Basford station (tunnel now bricked up)

Further Comments: A phantom man swinging a lamp was seen emerging from the tunnel and walking a short distance along the track before vanishing. He was thought to be an engine driver killed during the 1890s.

Further Comments: Verging on legend rather than haunting, it is said that Thompson would often be found drunk in this copse, and local children would taunt him. His phantom now returns to the area, ready to scare any children in petty revenge.

Further Comments: The ghostly figure observed standing by the Bendigo Memorial Stone is thought to be the phantom of the man himself - William Bendigo Thompson was a bare knuckle boxer who died in 1880 after falling down a staircase at home. Thompson may also be the ghost that has been reported running around the area. The garden is also haunted by a woman's screams that can be heard at night.

Further Comments: Canon Thomas Boys Barraclough Ferris would hear footsteps and other strange sounds in his vicarage. Ferris would later encounter a ghostly figure wearing a grey gown, which (despite the colouring) would be identified as the Black Lady. Other members of the household would also spot the apparition, although the entity ceased to appear after Ferris moved on.

Further Comments: Rev James Lemon claimed a heavy brass candlestick was lifted and dropped, landing around five foot (1.52 metres) from the table on which it had stood. A local paper reported other strange events had occurred at the church, including a vestry door opening unaided.
