Further Comments: Vaiegh was the name given to the female spirit which haunted this river, which was said to scream when people were nearby. One horse driver was said to have protected himself by throwing stones into the river as he crossed.

Further Comments: The stones resting on Seath Mor Sgorfhiaclach's grave are said to be cursed, with misfortune befalling anyone who touched them. An iron cage now covers the grave and stones; while some say it is to protect against people accidently invoking the wrath of the curse, the cage's placement may be due to the stones being stolen (and later recovered) in the 1980s.

Further Comments: A fierce warrior in his lifetime, the imposing ghost of Seath Mor Sgorfhiaclach occasionally appears in the forest and challenges visitors to a dual. If the visitor accepts, the phantom allows safe passage through the woodland, but if the person attempts to run, they are never seen again.

Further Comments: Four witnesses in a yacht reported seeing two humped creatures swimming off the coast of the island. One witness estimated the length of the serpents to be at least forty feet (twelve metres).

Further Comments: A long haired, fairy-like creature, the Gruagach in this area entertained itself by releasing cattle at night and could be heard laughing as farmers awoke to sort out the mess. The Gruagach killed one woman after she cursed its antics.

Further Comments: The area where Clan Nicolson made their home was also the location of fairy cattle. The creatures were trapped and caught on the island after earth from a graveyard was scattered on the shore. Following the cattle's capture, a voice from the sea could be heard calling their names.

Further Comments: For several nights after his drowning, this ghostly sailor made his presence known to a local man - they finally had a conversation (the contents of which were never revealed) and the shade was never seen again.

Further Comments: Perhaps different to the entity that haunted the nearby castle, this Glaistig would manifest as a young woman with long hair and would be appeased with milk that would be left at the stone.

Further Comments: Racing around the roads, witnesses pull over to let this car overtake them as it approached rapidly from behind - but it always vanishes before reaching them.

Further Comments: The Flag of the MacLeod's was given to them by a fairy that changed herself into a mortal and married into the family - it can only be used three times, but each time it is waved, it grants the MacLeods victory over a foe. Used twice before (1490 & 1580), the flag remained true to the fairy's words. The Fairy Bridge near the castle is considered inherently evil, upsets animals, and is reputedly haunted by a clowder of cats once owned by a witch.

Further Comments: A passenger of a car noticed a round light hovering a foot above the surface of the road; it vanished into a hedge. The driver was not aware of the light.

Further Comments: A barmaid dropped a tray of drinks and ran screaming from the drinks store after hearing heavy breathing down her neck. The room is said to be the location that a former female employee hanged herself while wearing a green dress, and now her emerald form drifts around the hotel creating mischief.

Further Comments: This loch was the home of an evil spirit that drowned anyone who entered it. The entity was finally dispatched by Saint Columba.

Further Comments: A Gruagach that haunted this house remained unseen, although she could be heard in the kitchen at night. The entity took a 'liking' to a shepherd who worked nearby; his piled clothing would be moved and his food hidden, the laughter of the Gruagach occasionally heard nearby.

Further Comments: The hot springs found in the region are said to be used by the Devil to wash both himself and his dirty linen.

Further Comments: The village smith grew tired of the strange bangs and crashes that plagued his building at night, so one day took his hammer and hid until night fell. A Glaistig with a tame chicken arrived and began to use his tools; the smith caught the chicken, only releasing the bird after the Glaistig agreed to cease using his equipment.

Further Comments: Two excise officers reportedly fired at a ninety foot (thirty metre) long monster as it charged towards them at some sixty miles per hour, resulting in the creature diving. Local fishermen also spotted the monster, and it was also claimed that a 100 tonne yacht was lifted out of the water when it encountered the beast.

Further Comments: Two lights were once often seen dancing around the surface of the pool, until two children tragically drowned in its waters.

Further Comments: William Munro, a schoolmaster from Thurso, watched a naked woman combing her hair on a rock in the bay. After a few minutes she dived under the water and vanished.
