Coachman

Location: Boscastle - Wellington Hotel
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late twentieth century
Further Comments: This figure, complete with frilly shirt and ponytail, has been watched as he disappears though a wall near reception. The ghost of a young lady who committed suicide by leaping from a tower attached to the building has also been seen drifting forlornly in the area.

Magical Giant

Location: Bosporthennis - Croft

Date / Time: Said to have taken place every 01 August (when giant was alive)
Further Comments: A giant who lived nearby was said to use this site once a year for magical rites and was happy for local people to watch.

Arthur's Table

Location: Bossiney - Bossiney Mound
Type: Legend
Date / Time: 20 June, midnight (reoccurring)
Further Comments: Once a year, King Arthur's table is said to surface from the mound, briefly waiting for the man to sit at it once more.

Dorothy Durant

Location: Botathan (near Launceston) - Field named Higher Broomfield
Type: Unknown Ghost Type
Date / Time: January 1665
Further Comments: A young boy encountered the same female ghost on his way to school, as he crossed Higher Broomfield, for several days. After falling ill, the boy told his family about his encounters. They in turn told his teacher, John Ruddle, Vicar of Alternan. The Vicar walked with the boy across the field and also encountered the girl. By convincing other local people to join him, Ruddle identified the girl as Dorothy Durant. Ruddle also became aware that Dorothy was trying to speak, but the words were so faint that no one could hear them. The vicar exorcised the ghost, upon doing so he was able to hear what she said - a great pestilence would descend upon the land.

Further Comments: A local legend says that any child baptized in the well water here will not be hanged.

Sea Serpent

Location: Bude - Off coast
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: October 1883 and/or October 1911
Further Comments: This creature was reported by the vicar of the local parish - he reported it moved at around 25 miles per hour and left an oily wake.

Vanishing Figure

Location: Bude - The Castle

Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A gardener spotted a shadowy figure in the locked building, which vanished after he gained access. The bell of the HMS Bude which hangs on site supposedly rings unaided.

Fisherman

Location: Cadgwith - Cadgwith Cove Inn

Date / Time: Fisherman / smuggler unknown, footsteps circa 2008
Further Comments: The inn is reputedly home to a phantom old fisherman and a ghostly smuggler. A witness outside the front of the inn, smoking a cigarette after the bar had closed, heard a set of disembodied footsteps pass by and around the pub.

Robed Figure

Further Comments: This black, monk like figure was seen to rise and float along a corridor near the bathroom.

Cure for a Cough

Location: Callington - Dupath Well
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Still present
Further Comments: This well is reported to cure whooping cough.

Lady in White

Location: Calstock - Cotehele House
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1980
Further Comments: A young lady dressed completely in white is said to haunt this building. The ghost would descend the main staircase. Phantom music has also been reported in the house.

Bloodstain

Location: Calstock - Cotehele Quay, Bridge

Further Comments: A part of the bridge is reportedly stained by blood from a murder that occurred long ago - nothing has ever been able to shift the mark (although it is said to be now painted over).

Miners

Location: Calstock - Road leading to Calstock

Further Comments: This area of road is said to be haunted by a group of miners wearing out fashioned outfits and carrying candles.

Man in Black

Location: Camborne - Hudder Down, Deadman's Cove
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: This ghostly figure standing at the cove faded away as two witnesses approached him.

Parson Richards

Location: Camborne - Parish church
Type: Other
Date / Time: Circa 1800
Further Comments: Two miners spotted Parson Richards outside his church, wailing while rattling chains. Concerned for his wellbeing, the miners approached, only to be berated by Richards who claimed to be chasing an evil spirit to hell. The church also contained a well that bestowed wisdom to the villagers, although when mines were sunk nearby, the water drained away.

Horse and Carriage

Location: Camborne - Polstrong House

Date / Time: 24 December, midnight (reoccurring) every ten years, last seen 1912
Further Comments: A spectral horse and carriage are said to pull up in front of this house. A phantom couple exit the vehicle then disappear upon reaching the doorstep.

Mr Vivian

Location: Camborne - Reskadinnick House

Further Comments: A man in old fashioned clothing was supposed to haunt this building and was named as a member of the Vivian family.

White or Black Figures

Location: Camborne - St Martin and St Meriadoc Church
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: Two women passing by the church late at night both spotted something strange but did not mention it until they reached their destination. One said that she had seen a couple of white figures appear by the tower and disappear by the rectory, while the other woman claimed to have seen a procession of figures in black wearing Quaker hats.

Turtle Dove

Further Comments: An ill-omen, a turtle dove is said to appear to a member of the Basset family before a death.

Cyclist

Location: Camelford - Road between town and Bodmin

Further Comments: This grey figure was seen pedalling away along the road before vanishing without warning.

Faceless Man

Location: Carbis - Road between village and Lelant, between Longstone and Boskerris Road
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa 1850s, summer night
Further Comments: A woman walking home spotted a man in a tall hat standing by a bush. She expected the man to say, 'good evening', but as she neared the figure, realised he had a blank space where his face should have been. She ran home and promptly fainted upon arrival. No one believed her story until a local preacher admitted he had also seen the figure.

Ringing Bell

Further Comments: The gentle pealing of a small bell could be heard by many people over a period of years. It was widely believed to indicate the presence of a kindly unknown entity.

John of Gaunt

Location: Carn Brea - Stones on nearby hill

Further Comments: The giant John would often throw boulders at neighbouring giants, who would toss them back at him - hence, the hillside is covered in large rocks. The giant's remains are said to be buried somewhere on the site.

No Hanging

Location: Carn Brea - Well

Further Comments: With its waters tainted with magical properties, no one who bathed in this well would be hanged, so they said.

Crushed Friend

Location: Carn Galva - General area
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A giant who once lived here (occasionally named as Holiburn of the Carn) was visited by a human friend. After a few games of quoits, the human had to leave. The giant patted his friend's head in a playful way, unfortunately forgetting his own strength - his fingers pieced the human's head, killing the man instantly. The giant died of a broken heart seven years later.
