Fading Figure

Location: Wakefield - Wooded footpath in Outwood area

Further Comments: While filming in Outwood, George Gunn captured footage of a strange figure that remains motionless while standing on a pathway. Two joggers can be seen passing through the blue misty shape. When the story was covered by BBC North Yorkshire, they heavily pushed belief the figure is little more than lens flare.

Cry

Location: West Vale - Crossroads

Further Comments: While out for a night walk, a witness heard a child's cry near the crossroads. The sound became louder as the witness approached, but they were unable to find the source of the noise.

Dark Monk

Location: Weston - Bolton Priory
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late twentieth century
Further Comments: The reports say that dozens of witnesses have seen this entity since the late 1800s, drifting in the priory grounds and sometimes straying into nearby roads and homes. On occasion he is accompanied by the smell of incense. A spectral white doe is also said to haunt the ruins, the spirit of a woman who founded the priory.

Woman in Lace

Location: Weston - Vicarage
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa 1912, Christmas
Further Comments: The vicar said that a woman wearing a long white lace dress walked through the wall before then passing through the Christmas tree. The Vicar's wife and a friend tried to grab the figure, but it passed through them too. A ghostly dog would bark, and mild poltergeist activity was also reported. A newspaper article claimed the church congregation numbers had dropped off after the discovery that the vicar was a spiritualist.

Barghest

Location: Wharfedale - Trowler's Gill

Date / Time: Mid twentieth century?
Further Comments: This demonic dog is the size of a small bear, with yellow eyes as large as saucers. To stare the beast in one of these eyes will result in the death of the onlooker within days.

Lady in Long Dress

Location: Wheatley - Long Can, currently the Brewery Visitors Centre

Further Comments: An elderly female wearing a long dress has been reported in the upper part of the centre, and she is sometimes heard walking around once all the tourists have left.

Footsteps

Further Comments: Sounding like someone moving across flagstones, the echoing footfalls may belong to the owner of a ghostly dog also seen in the premises.

Smoky Lady

Location: Woodlesford - Snooker club (no longer operational), Aberford Road

Further Comments: It was reported that a smoky figure of an older woman with her hair tied into a bun appeared briefly in the former projectionist room in this building, which was once a cinema.

Horsemen

Location: Wyke - A58/A641 junction, also known as Hell Fire Corner

Further Comments: Both ghostly horsemen and a phantom car have reported around this junction. The area is considered an accident black spot, begging the question whether ghosts cause the accidents or are they the products?

Fred the Flusher

Location: Wyke - The Hypnotist public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: 'Fred' is thought to be the ghost of an engineer, based at a nearby dam, who drowned in an accident. He is described as middle aged and dripping wet. Fred is blamed for flushing the toilets when no one is around.

Thrown Paint

Further Comments: This noisy spirit broke dozens of telephones and threw a large tin of paint across the room.
