Further Comments: The local newspaper reported that an illusion caused by lighting had created the story of a thin, misty, waving figure in the vault.
Gabriel's Hounds
Location: Sheffield - Stannington

Further Comments: When these wild phantom hounds were heard above the neighbourhood, a death was sure to follow.
Walk along the Boardwalk
Location: Sheffield - The Boardwalk (now Meltdown Bar), and the Point

Further Comments: Phantom footsteps were heard moving along the corridor between the stage and the backstage dressing room of the music venue, and mild poltergeist activity reported.
Horse and Cart
Location: Sheffield - The Crofts public house, Mosborough

Further Comments: This phantom horse and cart would be seen in the car park and were frequently mistaken as being 'real'. When a pond on the grounds was filled in, the apparition never returned.
Sobbing Woman

Further Comments: Heard but never seen, this crying woman may also haunt the cellar - it is said that no animal has the courage to have gone down. Patrons have reported being prodded by an unseen finger.
Mary with her Jailor

Further Comments: Mary Queen of Scots was held here for many years, and on occasion her ghost is seen looking out from a window. Her male jailor is sometimes seen standing guard on the stairwell.
Boy

Further Comments: A local legend says that the site is haunted by a boy whose body was snatched in 1862. However, the bodysnatching accusations made at the time were later proven false - it is unclear whether the ghost story is a modern creation.
Attacker

Further Comments: It is said that this hotel is home is to a violent entity which has been known to attack members of staff. Phantom children's voices have also been heard.
Hooded Figure
Location: Sheffield - Woolley Woods Bottom

Further Comments: Three people in the woods spotted a hooded figure run past. One of the party also spotted a brown tunic with a big gold buckle, moving down a slope, (although there were no limbs or head visible) while the other two witnesses spotted white lights floating around their car.
Dark Figure

Further Comments: A former tenant reported several strange experiences during their time in this pub, including encountering a dark figure, doors which closed themselves and items which disappeared and reappeared up to a month later. A former occupier of the site remembered the shadow and closing doors from the 1970s.
Line Lion
Location: Shepley - Railway Line

Further Comments: Trains were delayed for around two hours after police received a report of a lion (and possibly a cub) on the rail tracks at Shepley. After searching the area with twelve officers and a helicopter, nothing was found, and rail travel resumed.

Further Comments: Appearing at night, this phantom coach pulled by four horses would move at breakneck speed along the roads in and around the village.
Elizabeth Smith
Location: Shepley - Sovereign Inn

Further Comments: Elizabeth is said to sit in a room upstairs and can be seen watching from a window. The cellar is also said to be haunted by a man who died down there in the 1960s.
Housekeeper

Further Comments: When this property appeared for sale in the local press, the article mentioned that a phantom housekeeper from the eighteenth century was supposed to haunt the orchard. The pale figure is said to have been seen in the late twentieth century, and by two teenagers in 2007.
Children Playing

Further Comments: Seen playing around an electricity pylon, the children faded when approached.
Cowled Figure

Further Comments: The scene of many accidents (over 120 since 1988, with 23 dying since 1998), the area is said to be haunted by several ghosts; a hooded man has been seen here, as have Victorian children who are thought to have died in a mining accident.
Shadowy Figure

Further Comments: A dark insubstantial figure was blamed when the landlord moved his family out. Glasses would also break without reason, and doors would lock and unlock themselves.
Soldiers

Further Comments: Phantom soldiers reputedly walk the moor, the scene of a long forgotten skirmish.
Headless Man
Location: Thorne - 1920's cinema

Further Comments: The story of the ghost of a headless cinema commissionaire reputed to wander the lower floor was said to be nothing but a rumour by the people renovating the building.
Coach
Location: Thorne - Thorne Gyme, (on the site where the roundabout at junction 6 of the M18 now stands)

Further Comments: It was said that a stagecoach left the road during a storm, running into the deep hole which had filled with rainwater. The accident drowned driver, passengers and horses. The coach was said to have been seen several times after this, re-enacting the event.

Further Comments: Photographer Paul Cocker claimed to have caught a phantom hooded figure in a doorway of this public house, although the image published online by a local newspaper looks slightly suspect.
Coach

Further Comments: This ghostly coach has been observed dashing down Wong Lane before fading from view.

White Thing

Further Comments: A white entity was said to haunt this area after dark, although a large white owl was identified as a possible culprit.
Panicking Lady

Further Comments: This white woman has been observed darting around, with body language suggesting she is in blind panic.
