Red Dragon

Location: Nant Gwynant (Gwynedd) - Lake hidden under hillside

Further Comments: It was at this site that Vortigern, King of the Britons, encountered a red dragon and a white dragon fighting in a deep underground. The white dragon fled, leaving the red dragon victorious - the king took the creature to be his emblem.


Running Man

Location: Nant Y Caws (Dyfed) - A48, between Cross Hands and Carmarthen
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2010, late autumn, around 01:30, and January 2016
Further Comments: In 2010, a car driver was forced to break hard when travelling along this road as a man ran out in front of their vehicle. About halfway across the road, the figure vanished. A similar encounter occurred in 2016 when a witness watched a dark figure who vanished while crossing the road.


Death Harbinger

Location: Nantgarw (South Glamorgan) - General area
Type: Shuck

Further Comments: This black dog of ill fortune can be fended off with a crucifix, though it is unsure whether this will stop the witness of dying shortly after viewing the hound.


Floating Island

Location: Nantlle Valley (Gwynedd) - Lake of the Turf Sod
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: An island once floated around this body of water, acting as a meeting place between a fairy and her human husband, after she was prevented by other members of her race to walk on land.


Juan White

Location: Nantyglo (Gwent) - Milfraen Mountain
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 18 July 2004
Further Comments: A local witch, Juan White is thought to now haunt this location. She was seen in 2004 by a couple of people who also heard galloping horses just prior to their sighting, though they could not see any of the creatures.


Footsteps

Location: Nantymoel (Nant-Y-Moel) (Mid Glamorgan) - Black Road
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa 1904
Further Comments: A man walking along this road could heard footsteps following him but was unable to see anyone else. He became paralysed with fear and collapsed after hearing a horrifying scream behind him. Other people apparently were aware that something haunted the area, but the details were not forthcoming.

Further Comments: A misty male figure caught on CCTV in the pub could be seen entering through a door that swings open.


Bryn

Location: Neath (West Glamorgan) - The Greyhound public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000s
Further Comments: A former drinker at the pub, Bryn has returned several years after he died. The cellar is said to be haunted by a more sinister entity, though details are fleeting.


Closing Windows

Location: Neath (West Glamorgan) - Unidentified mansion
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Possibly eighteenth century
Further Comments: After windows in this house closed on their own accord, a servant volunteered to stay and solve the mystery. A ghostly gentleman appeared to the servant and stated that he would never appear and close another window if a pot of gold buried in the dairy could be removed. The occupants dug up the gold and the ghost never reappeared.


Coach and Four

Location: Nefyn (Gwynedd) - Unknown road in area
Type: Crisis Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A local legend says that a phantom coach which travels a road here forewarns of the witness's death.


John Edward

Location: Nercwys (Clwyd) - Tower mansion
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: July 2009
Further Comments: Spirit Quest UK visited Tower and claimed to detect twenty spirits within the building, including Edwardian John Edwards, a nurse maid, a dog which sits on the staircase, and a freemason. The team's equipment recorded music, voices and the sounds of something being dragged.


White Pigs

Location: Nevern (Dyfed) - Church

Further Comments: The church was due to be constructed close to the river, but an angel appeared and advised that building work should occur at a site where a white pig would be seen. The advice was taken; a white sow and her white piglets were discovered where the church now stands.


Bleeding Yew

Location: Nevern (Dyfed) - Yew Tree in churchyard
Type: Legend

Further Comments: The second yew tree on the right on entering the churchyard is known as the Bleeding Tree - blood can be seen dripping from the stump left by a severed branch.


Forty Foot Creature

Location: New Quay (Dyfed) - Off coast
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: 1960s?
Further Comments: This sea serpent reportedly took a liking to the local seal population, though the pinniped's objected to the new arrival and their fleeing was an indication the creature was near.


Drinking Rocks

Location: New Radnor (Powys) - Standing Stones east of village
Type: Legend
Date / Time: When the church bells ring
Further Comments: Upon hearing the ringing of the local church bells, these standing stones move to a nearby pool and start drinking.


Demon Child

Location: New Tredegar (Gwent) - Private house
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 2015
Further Comments: Several tabloids carried the story of a family which was subjected to poltergeist-like behaviour (called demonic by some outlets) which started after a game was played with a Ouija board. It was claimed that a photograph was taken on the property which showed a blue-faced child with a tail.


Elf Meet

Location: Newcastle (Gwent) - Oak tree on former site of castle
Type: Fairy

Further Comments: The site was also home to a mighty oak tree in which fairies lived. When a storm damaged the tree, a fallen branch was used by locals as firewood, although those who burnt the wood had their homes set alight by the upset fairies.


Evil People

Location: Newcastle (Gwent) - Site of old castle

Further Comments: This site of a former motte and bailey castle is said to be haunted by the spirits of all those who have committed evil deeds.


Well Riser

Location: Newcastle (Gwent) - Unnamed farmhouse in the area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Pre-1960s
Further Comments: A farmhouse with its own well was said to be haunted by an entity which would emerge from the water. The well was covered over, although it is not known if this stopped the sightings.


Wishing Well

Location: Newcastle (Gwent) - Well and springs
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This wishing well was used by throwing pins into it, while the waters of the spring would be used to cure joint pain and inflammation.


Impenetrable Dragon

Location: Newcastle Emlyn (Dyfed) - Ruined castle in the area (may no longer be standing)
Type: Dragon
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A dragon whose armoured scales rendered it virtually invincible was killed by a soldier who managed to shoot the creature in its one weak spot - up the bottom. When the dragon's body hit the nearby river venom gushed out, killing all fish.


Blue Lady

Location: Newport (Gwent) - Church

Further Comments: A lady wearing a blue dress or veil is seen in a church yard where a local tsunami washed away many of the graves. It is thought that the phantom woman once lived in the village and would look out of the church tower towards the sea, hoping for her sailor husband to return.


Bad Ghosthunters

Location: Newport (Gwent) - Mountjoy Street

Further Comments: After a rumour started that a property along this road was haunted, police arrested a group of boys who had smashed windows while they waited for the ghost to appear.


Robert FitzHamon

Location: Newport (Gwent) - Newport Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The protective structure is haunted by the giant figure of FitzHamon, the castle's builder.


Annie Webb

Location: Newport (Gwent) - Private house along Corporation Street
Type: SHC
Date / Time: 2 February 1980
Further Comments: When Annie was found, only a pair of legs, piece of arm and skull remained. A white tablecloth lay untouched nearby.
