Tylwyth Teg

Further Comments: The Tylwyth Teg, a race of fairies believed to be the souls of druids, are thought to reside in this valley.

Vortigern's Tower

Location: Dinas Emrys - Thought to be location where the spring can be found
Type: Dragon
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Every time construction started on Vortigern's Tower, it collapsed. Vortigern asked the druids why this was, and they recommended sacrificing a boy to settle the earth. A young lad was brought, but he told Vortigern that the tower fell because two mighty dragons fought beneath the ground in a stone chest. This boy grew up to become Merlin.

Silver Haired Man

Location: Dinas Mawddwy - Public toilet opposite Red Lion Hotel
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: This toilet appeared in the media after it was claimed to be the most haunted loo in the UK, although it was admitted that no witnesses to the haunting appeared to exist (which I guess suggests it is the least haunted loo?).

Water Monster

Location: Dolgellau - Lly Cynwch
Type: Dragon

Further Comments: Once home to a strange water creature which could paralyse with its gaze, a legend tells of a brave farmer who took its head off with an axe blow as it rested. The monster was buried on the mountainside.

Washer Women

Location: Dyffryn Ardudwy - Moelfre Hill
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Three washer women climbed the hill on a sabbath to winnow their com. They were turned to stone for the sin, with each stone possessing a hint of the colour of their clothing (blue, red, and white). The stones disappeared after gang of bored youths dug them up and rolled them down the hill.

Ladies Combing their Hair

Location: Ffestiniog - Llyn y Morwynion
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Several women from another village who were abducted by local men drowned themselves in this lake. Their kidnappers came under attack by men from the women's village, but the maidens preferred to die rather than return home. The ghosts of these women are sometimes seen on the water's edge, combing their hair.

Opening Doors

Location: Ganllwyd - Plas Dolmelynllyn Hall Hotel
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2012
Further Comments: A ghost hunting team on this site heard doors opening and closing, the sound of heavy breathing, and claimed to have contacted the spirit of a First World War captain.

Woman

Location: Glasfryn, Lleyn Peninsula - House, lake and nearby field
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: One story says that this area is haunted by the ghost of a woman in white who accidently flooded the surrounding lands.

Fiery Light

Location: Harlech - General area of Harlech, Morfa Bychan marsh, and surrounding area
Type: Other
Date / Time: Winter 1694
Further Comments: An old tale says a blue flame arose from Morfa Bychan and moved across Harlech, setting fire to several haystacks and two barns. The mysterious flame also poisoned dozens of farm animals. The flame continued to appear for several months.

Nursemaid

Location: Harlech - Hotel Maes Y Neuadd
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Haunting one of the bedrooms in this hotel, this nursemaid dressed in mob cap and gown will only appear if one of the guests is unwell. A phantom dog is sometimes seen in the garden, while other phantom figures have been seen elsewhere in the building, though only when reflected in mirrors.

Soldiers with Mules

Location: Harlech - Roman Steps leading up the Rhinog Fawr mountains
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A group of Roman soldiers with pack animals slowly make their way up these steps. Some believe that the ghostly posse will lead anyone who tries to follow them to gold.

Cowled Figures

Location: Holy Island - Llyn Cerrig Back
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The edges of this lake are haunted by both figures resembling monks and Roman soldiers.

Fleet of Foot

Location: Holyhead - General area
Type: Other
Date / Time: Circa December 1903
Further Comments: A 'madman' took to haunting the streets, jumping out on women before running away. The press referred to the figure as a 'Spring Heeled Jack', and described the perpetrator as tall, fair, good looking and fleet of foot.

Victorian Children

Location: Holyhead - Hibernian nightclub
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2007
Further Comments: A group of ghost hunters raising money for charity claimed to have seen a little Victorian girl with pigtails, along with a young boy. The group also contacted a sailor who hanged himself.

Grey Lady

Location: Holyhead - Penrhos Nature Reserve
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This grey woman has appeared in a couple of places within the reserve.

Flying Boat

Location: Holyhead - Skies above town
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1743
Further Comments: Claimed by some to be an early UFO report, a farmer and co-worker reported seeing a phantom sailing boat in the sky, the wind blowing it in a westerly direction.

Drowned Girl

Location: Holyhead - Trearddur Bay - cricket pitch in the area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This lost shade is said to be a woman who drowned in the bay.

Old Woman

Location: Holyhead - Unstated building along Station Street
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A building along the street is reportedly haunted by a former tenant.

Elizabeth

Location: Llan Ffestiniog - Meirion House
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The visitors' book at this house references a ghost by the name of Elizabeth, though nothing more appears to be known about her.

Green Eyed Monster

Location: Llanaber - Beach
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: 02 March 1975
Further Comments: Six girls stood around 180 meters from a three meter long creature which crossed the beach and entered the sea. Dusk at the time, it is difficult to see how they could see it clearly enough to describe the creature's eye colour as green.

Rosina Buckman

Location: Llanbadrig - Area around Wylfa power station
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1964 onwards
Further Comments: Rosina's ashes were moved when the power station was constructed on the site of her old house, and her pallid wraith now drifts around the vicinity. During the construction of the power station, several workers are said to have quit their jobs after encountering a phantom woman in white.

Canrig Bwt

Location: Llanberis - Unknown stone and general area
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A witch by the name of Canrig Bwt lived under a stone in this neighbourhood and would take children to eat their brains. A criminal condemned to death was told if he slew the witch, he would earn his freedom. The criminal managed to decapitate the woman, although for many years, children would still be told if they did not behave, Canrig Bwt would come for them.

Druid

Location: Llanddaniel Fab - Bryn Celli Ddu
Type: Other
Date / Time: Circa 1802
Further Comments: A farmer who thought the prehistoric monument contained treasure entered the chamber, only to come face-to-face with a pale ghostly druid. The farmer fled, but later returned and realised that the figure was just a tall white stone.

Petrified Thief

Location: Llandyfrydog - Just outside the village - Carreg Lleidr (Robber's Stone)
Type: Legend
Date / Time: 25 December, midnight (reoccurring)
Further Comments: Legend has it that an oddly shaped stone here was a thief who stole a bible, and while carrying it over his shoulder, was turned to rock. Every Christmas the stone runs three times around the field in which it stands.

Horseless Horse Rider

Location: Llanerchymedd (Llannerch-y-medd) - Road between Llangefni and Benllech, near the California Inn
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Thrown off her mount and killed, this shade now stands around the place where she broke her neck.
