Bull Inn, Brantham.

Grey Man

Further Comments: Members of staff have reported seeing a misty grey man standing behind the bar and hearing the cries of a girl coming from the cellar.

Round Object

Location: Brantham - Slough Road
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 1986, around 22:00h
Further Comments: A brother and sister watched a large round metal looking object with blue and red lights around the sides hovering over the field opposite their home. It was stationery for around three minutes, before disappearing in a flash.

Nun

Location: Bruisyard - Bruisyard Hall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Little is known about the nun which was once said to haunt the hall.


Bungay castle, Suffolk.

Shuck

Location: Bungay - Bungay castle
Type: Shuck
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Believed by some to be the headquarters of Old Shuck, the ruined castle is still avoided at night.

Hugh Bigod

Location: Bungay - Bungay castle
Type: Unknown Ghost Type
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Humbled after taking part in a failed rebellion against the king, Bigod was forced to pay a great deal of gold to keep his castle. His shade has returned to show his resentment, sometimes taking the form of a black dog.


Greyfriars Priory, Bungay.

Monk's Chanting

Location: Bungay - Greyfriars Priory

Further Comments: The sound of plainchant has been heard coming from the ruins of the old priory, accompanied by the ringing of bells that have now been long gone.

Creaking

Location: Bungay - King's Head public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000
Further Comments: It maybe that the ghost from the nearby Three Tuns has relocated, or that the creaks heard within the building are just because it is old...

Horses and Coach

Location: Bungay - Road between Ditchingham and Bungay at Lions Grave
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Reported by at least one driver, a coach with a team of horses haunt the road, seemingly charging at incoming traffic and turning away at the last possible moment. One version of the tale says the coach is either seen or heard, but never both.


St Mary's church, Bungay.

Lightning Dog

Further Comments: Appearing on 4 August 1577, the same date as the Blythburgh report, a black dog entered the church during a storm and killed several people. Some believe the dog still patrols the area.


The Druid's Stone, Bungay.

The Druid's Stone

Further Comments: Believed to be at least a couple of thousand years old, the large, rounded stone is rumoured to have been used by druids. Local legend states you can summon the Devil by dancing around it twelve times.


Ye Olde Three Tuns pub, Bungay.

Rex Bacon and Friends

Location: Bungay - Ye Olde Three Tuns public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1969
Further Comments: An investigation by a medium revealed this building was haunted by 24 ghosts (!), one of whom was Mr Rex Bacon, a highwayman from the eighteenth century whose base of operations was the inn.

Dragon Slaying

Location: Bures - Exact location not known
Type: Dragon
Date / Time: Fifteenth century
Further Comments: The local church gives the account of how a local dragon that was immune to arrows was finally chased into the marshes where it vanished. A virtually identical tale exists from nearby Wormingford.

Hunting Cat

Location: Bures - Field outside village
Type: ABC
Date / Time: February 2009
Further Comments: Two witnesses watched a large cat as it chased two deer across a field. They could see the mud flicking up from the feline's feet as it ran. The witnesses searched the area and found a large paw print, twice the size of their retriever.

White Shuck

Location: Burgh - Bath Slough, a boggy pool near the town
Type: Shuck
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A white dog the size of a bullock frequented this area.

Old Washer Woman

Location: Burgh - Location near the main road, once known as 'Skeleton Hole' or 'Skellet Hole'
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Nineteenth century
Further Comments: After a heavy rain fall, the sound of a ghostly woman could be heard washing her pots.

White Feet

Location: Burgh - Road (once?) known as Whitefoot Lane
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Nineteenth century?
Further Comments: This lane took its name from the ghost with pale white feet that walked along it.

Monk

Location: Bury St Edmunds - 38 Buttermarket, currently a bookshop (was the Suffolk Hotel)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Mid to late twentieth century
Further Comments: Reportedly connected via underground tunnel to a long gone priory, monks have been reported creeping around the sight.


Bury St Edmunds Abbey and Cathedral, Suffolk.

Monks

Location: Bury St Edmunds - Abbey and Cathedral
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late 1980s (monks), Cardinal in summer 1975 or 1976
Further Comments: Spectral monks have been seen gliding around the ruins of the abbey, also in the shops along Abbeygate Street. One witness encountered a Cardinal while walking around the ruins with her husband - he gave her a warning before vanishing. Despite the reported sightings, it was claimed the story was first created by a police sergeant during the 1960s and planted in the local press.

Monk

Location: Bury St Edmunds - Anabel's Togs shop (no longer operating) along Abbeygate Street
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: October 1975
Further Comments: A member of staff in this shop watched as an average sized monk with a pointed hood walked through the wall. Footsteps were also reported within the building.

Pharmacist

Location: Bury St Edmunds - British Gas Showroom (was next door to Cupola House)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1990s
Further Comments: Phantom music could be heard coming from the basement where a pharmacist had taken his own life in 1913. A broom had also been spotted moving unaided. The showroom briefly opened the basement to the public in 1993 to raise money for Comic Relief.

Grey Woman

Location: Bury St Edmunds - Buildings on the Angel Hill

Further Comments: While it is unclear whether the Grey Lady reported all over Bury is of the same entity, more sightings are said to have occurred of a grey female form in buildings on this hill.


Cathedral Cottages, Bury St Edmunds.

Figure on Bed

Location: Bury St Edmunds - Cathedral Cottages
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Mid 1960s
Further Comments: The spinster Enid Crossley told her friends at work that the figure of a monk had crossed her bedroom and sat on the end of her bed. This occurred several times while she lived there. Witnesses from other cottages have also reported the figure.

Faceless Man

Location: Bury St Edmunds - Coppice running alongside Horringer Road
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1970
Further Comments: Two children playing in the coppice spotted a man approaching them. The figure wore a black suit with a bowler hat and carried a walking stick. He could have been mistaken for a regular man, other than his face was completely devoid of features. The children hid up a tree until the figure passed.

Grey Lady Waiting

Further Comments: This lonely figure has been seen sitting in the front bar, shying away in a corner.


Former fire station, Bury St Edmunds.

Footsteps

Location: Bury St Edmunds - Fire station (no longer operational, currently a bank)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Disembodied footsteps were reported coming from empty parts of this fire station.
