Crop Curse

Location: Wetherden - Field between Wetherden and Woolpit

Further Comments: Robert Rosier was burnt to death in this field in 1556 by a former friend; since that day, no one has been able to raise a successful harvest in that pasture.

Yellow Frog Fall

Further Comments: Described as either yellow or dull green, these frogs rained down upon the town.

Four Sisters

Further Comments: Local folklore claims that four sisters committed suicide here and have remained ever since.

White Shadow

Location: Wickham Market - Deben Court

Further Comments: A tale states that children were buried in the walls of the building, and that their shades remain. A taller figure has been seen on the site also.

Man in Pointed Hat

Further Comments: Staff at the home have reported seeing this figure moving around the building.

Black Robed Figure with a Skeletal Face

Location: Wickham Market - Potsford Wood, gibbet marked by plaque

Date / Time: 1980s, 1997
Further Comments: This is the location where the hanging of Jonah Snell occurred, though nothing suggests that he is the ghost in question. In 1997 a couple reported being harassed by a black shapeless object that moaned gently at them late at night when their car broke down near the site, while the 1980's sighting occurred in broad daylight; a truck driver stopped for a call of nature near the plaque, paused to read it while walking into the woods, and felt a tap on his shoulder. Turning, he came face to face with a skeletal form, hooded and dressed in robes. The truck driver ran to his vehicle and drove away. Another piece of folklore says a stone which stood at the base of the gibbet would scream if kicked.

'Ostrich'

Further Comments: A rhea, though referred to as an ostrich in the local press, spotted on the line between Ipswich and Saxmundham forced a train to slow near Wickham Market.

Woman Wearing Sackcloth

Location: Wickham Market - The White Hart (currently a collection of shops and flats)

Further Comments: The ghost is said to be that of one Betty Price, executed for being a witch. The old room 14 of the Inn was also reportedly haunted, by a cat. Only one person has reported spooky occurrences since the pub has been converted, and that relates to an answer machine that switches itself on.

Mrs Smith

Location: Wickhambrook - General area

Date / Time: December 1867 - May 1868
Further Comments: Villagers feared venturing out after dark following the death of Mrs Smith, as a phantom female form took to walking the streets and visiting her former home. The haunting appears to have ceased after a butcher pursued what he thought was the ghost, but it transpired to be a local woman. The villagers burnt an effigy of a ghost outside her home.

Lady in White

Further Comments: The jangling of chains being dragged across the floor could once be heard on the upper floor of this farmhouse.

Further Comments: Mr Grey hanged himself from a tree along this lane, and now his ghost is said to sway on the end of a rope from the branches.

Further Comments: Two bridges along this stretch of road are the haunt of the black shuck.

Further Comments: This unnamed phantom woman silently leaves the cottage and vanishes beneath the waters of a nearby pond.

Further Comments: This spectral horse and cart continue to retrace the final journey which abruptly ended when the creature fell into the pond and drowned.

Galley Trot

Further Comments: The large demonic dog once reported around Woodbridge was white and as large as a cow. The creature was said to give chase if people fled from it.

Tailor carrying Gloves

Location: Woodbridge - High Street

Further Comments: A local story tells of two men walking down the High Street, debating the existence of ghosts. One man warns the other of a ghost walking towards them and jumps to one side, out the way. His friend scoffs in disbelief, only to be knocked down to the ground as the spirit of a recently dead tailor pushed past him!

The Thing by the Fireplace

Further Comments: A photograph taken in the pub showed a strange circle of light by the fireplace. A medium in the building at the time claimed to feel the presence of a young child in that area just before the image was taken.

White Haired Woman Standing in the Corner

Further Comments: The club has a reputation for being haunted by ex-service personnel, but an old woman dressed in a night-shirt has also been seen here, standing in the corner of the bar.

Location: Woodbridge - Road out to Martlesham from Woodbridge

Further Comments: A triangular UFO was seen slowly floating towards the ground, several independent witnesses reporting it as a crashed aircraft. No aeroplanes were reported missing, nor any wreckage found.

Thomas Seckford

Further Comments: The ghost of Thomas is said to appear dressed all in white, manifesting in protest as the wealth he bequeathed to the poor was spent by wealthy men.

Phantom Wolf

Further Comments: Seeing what he thought to be a calf stuck in a pit, a local farmer rushed to help it out, only to find the creature to be a large wolf. He ran to fetch his gun, but when he returned, he could find no evidence that the beast had ever existed.

Green Children

Location: Woolpit - Exact location of discovery unknown

Further Comments: Two children appeared in the village, both with a strong green pigmentation. They claimed to have been watching their family's sheep in a place called St Martins, when they heard a loud noise, before finding themselves in the strange village. There is still some debate to whether the pair were alien, fairy children, or lost human children.
