Vanishing Island

Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Inhabitants of this island spotted another island identical to their own, which vanished a brief time later.

Vanishing Island

Location: Inishark (aka Inishshark, aka Shark Island) (County Galway) - Off coast
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Nineteenth century
Further Comments: Islanders spotted another island which disappeared without trace.

Battleground

Location: Inveraray (Argyll and Bute) - Skies around Inveraray Castle
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 10 July 1758
Further Comments: A total of five witnesses in two different places watched a battle over the skies of the castle, between the Highlander regiment and garrisoned French troops. This mirrored real events in America, where 300 Highlanders were killed assaulting a fort.

Time Slip

Location: Iona, Isle of Mull (Argyll and Bute) - Abbey
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 1940s? (clergyman), others unknown
Further Comments: A clergyman visiting the island reported seeing the abbey in its former glory - he almost drowned when approaching the building, believing that he was walking on a causeway that no longer existed. Friends managed to save him. There are also stories that say Viking longboats sometimes appear off the coast, depositing phantom raiders who go on to attack the abbey, while people still report hearing singing coming from the empty abbey. At least one guest reported seeing a transparent, motionless, cowled figure standing by their bed, while a much older story concerns a tailor who works through the night and is troubled by a phantom fleshless hand.

Island Covered in Buildings

Location: Isle of Sanday (Highland) - In the sky off coast of the island
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 1840, 1857
Further Comments: This island, covered in fantastic white buildings, has appeared twice in the sky just off the coast. On one instance it remained viable for most of the day. Some people believe it to be the Fairy Isle, while others say it was a mirage of a part of Norway.

Ambush

Location: Kilkishen (County Clare) - Glenwood area
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 1920s
Further Comments: For years after an ambush which left many RIC men dead, locals reported hearing the screams of wounded people in the area.

Castle

Location: Kilsyth (Lanarkshire) - Likely to be near the grounds of Auchinvole farm
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Late twentieth century
Further Comments: A passenger in a vehicle briefly spotted a castle while passing through the area. After looking away and then realising that there should be no castle in the area, they looked again - the building had gone.

High Visibility Man

Location: Kimberley (Nottinghamshire) - Disused buildings on the hill leading into Kimberley, Main Street (private property)
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 2002
Further Comments: A teenager with a group of friends exploring the sheds on the site spotted a man wearing a high visibility jacket standing in a doorway. The teenager pointed the figure out to the rest of the group, but they could not see anything. They all left the site. About a month later, the teenager returned with another friend, and realised that the doorway in which the man had stood did not exist. The witness was later told that a friend's father had encountered a ghostly man along the road close to the sheds. The man appeared to be 'normal', until he suddenly vanished as the witness walked close.

Battle of Edgehill Repeating

Location: Kineton (Warwickshire) - Edgehill Battle site
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 23 October (reoccurring), also 23 December 1642, lasting several nights
Further Comments: A bloody battle of the English Civil War, the fighting repeated itself for several successive nights in 1642, in front of dozens of witnesses. More recently, sounds of battle have been reported, though the visuals are not forthcoming. The date of the more recent battle sounds is said to be 23 October.

Kilstiveen

Location: Lahinch (County Clare) - Sea west of town
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Prior to disaster (reoccurring)
Further Comments: The town of Kilstiveen was submerged by a giant tidal wave, its inhabitants washed away to drown. The ghost town occasionally is glimpsed by fishermen.

Raided Building

Location: Langley Park (Durham) - Langley Hall (ruins)
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Late twentieth century
Further Comments: Over the past two hundred years, there have been several reports of this building seen to be on fire with soldiers running around its base - the vision vanishes if investigated. Another tale of the area tells of a headless coachman who drives a phantom coach.

Battle

Location: Lewes (Sussex) - Offham Hill
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 25 May (reoccurring)
Further Comments: This battle fought around the 1300's is still reportedly heard in May - over 3000 people are said to have been killed. The exact date may vary, though the phantom event always occurs in late May.

Sounds of Action

Location: Lindholme (South Yorkshire) - Former Second World War Air Force Base
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 1962
Further Comments: A witness recalled how he and a friend were walking across the deserted airfield at night and seeing a strange light in the control tower. Both knowing that the building should have been empty, the illumination unnerved them slightly. As they passed by a hangar, they were suddenly surrounded by the sounds of activity - they could hear the hangar doors screeching open, the engines of aircraft starting up, and the patter of many pairs of feet running by them, though nothing could be seen.

Enchanted Island

Location: Lisneakeabree (County Kerry) - Off coast
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Late nineteenth or early twentieth century?
Further Comments: Shortly before an enchanted island appeared to the population of Ballyheige, it made a brief manifestation off the coast of Lisneakeabree.

Cathedral Bells

Location: Llangorse Lake (Powys) - General area
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Holy Days (reoccurring)
Further Comments: A cathedral once stood in this spot before it was flooded - the tower bells now ring out on select days of the year.

Isolated Cottage

Location: Loch Mullardoch (Highland) - Waterline
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Late twentieth century
Further Comments: This cottage vanished into thin air before the witnesses could reach it - apparently the small building stood on the water's edge at the start of the twentieth century but was submerged and lost forever as the loch's water level rose.

Battle Cries

Location: Longden (Shropshire) - Fields in the area
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 11 October 2010, 04:10h
Further Comments: A woman reported waking up in the early hours and hearing the distant shouts and cheers of hundreds of men. She awoke her husband who also heard it, and the sounds appeared to upset the local dogs which began to bark.

Island Village

Location: Maas (County Donegal) - Gweebarra Bay
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: When a magically appearing and disappearing island manifested in the bay, inhabitants of Maas could see a village that resembled their own.

Fighting Armies

Location: Malton (North Yorkshire) - Skies over the area, covering around twelve miles
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: During a great storm, two armies marched through the sky and fought with firearms. The army which came in from the north was first to vanish, but only after the accompanying storm caused much damage on the ground, scattering and killing livestock.

The Demon Oak Tree

Location: Nannau (Gwynedd) - Ceubren yr Elbyl
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Pre-1813
Further Comments: An oak tree which was once used to conceal a dead body was considered haunted; locals were fearful of walking by the tree at night. The tree eventually fell and was destroyed, though some say that the oak sometimes comes back.

Gibbet

Location: Newbridge (Isle of Wight) - Dodpits Cross
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: October 1928
Further Comments: A young girl walking home encountered a gibbet with the body of a bearded man swinging from it at this junction. She ran off, and looking over her shoulder once more, realised that gibbet and man had vanished, replaced by the normal junction signpost.

Cottage with Pond

Location: Newport (Isle of Wight) - Sandy Lane
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa 1951 / 1952
Further Comments: A lad cycling down Sandy Lane recalled seeing a picturesque farmhouse with a pond just in front of it. Years later the (now grown) man tried to find the dwelling but could find no evidence the property or pond ever existed.

Fordson Tractor

Location: Normanton (West Yorkshire) - RAF Bottesford (aka RAF Normanton) - no longer operational
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 04 October 2009
Further Comments: A visitor to the site heard what he first thought was an old Fordson tractor ticking over, though the sound later changed to an aircraft carrying out pre-flight checks.

Crowned Man

Location: Otley (West Yorkshire) - Old Chevin Road
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 2005, around 23:00h
Further Comments: A witness walking towards a camp site encountered a man wearing a crown on his head dancing around strangely, like a 'village idiot'. The man stopped in front of the witness and stared hard into his eyes. The witness tried to push the man away, but his hands passed straight through the figure. As the witness moved away, he turned and saw many people in Victorian clothing pushing prams. The witness was said to be shaken up for days after the experience.

Cricket Pavilion

Location: Outer London: East Barnet (Greater London) - Oak Hill Park
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: An evening in winter, 1986/87
Further Comments: Walking his dog through the park, this witness spotted what looked like a cricket pavilion with a veranda about 100 yards from him. The building was quite brightly lit, illuminated from the outside. The witness was a little surprised never to have seen the building before, but being new to the area, was not perturbed. Walking back the same way a little later, the building had gone. Neighbours told him that they could not recall a pavilion ever being on the site.
