Hairy Man

Location: Ladybower Reservoir (Derbyshire) - A57, roadside
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: Family sighting in 1991, figure in the trees reported Early 2006
Further Comments: Standing almost two and a half metres tall and covered in long brown hair, a family watched this creature from the roadside. A passing car scared the man-like figure off, and it vanished into nearby woodland. More recently, a group of friends reported a figure in the trees accompanied by small green lights.

Eel

Location: Lahinch (County Clare) - Sea

Further Comments: Little is known about the legend of the eel depicted in Kilmacreehy Church, other than it feasted on corpses.

Pair of Dadharchu

Location: Lake Glenade (County Sligo) - Waters of the Lake
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Translated their name means 'Hound of the Deep'; two Dadharchu lived in this lake until one of the beasts killed and ate a young bride. Her husband exacted revenge by shooting one of the creatures and taking a sword to the other. Regardless whether this is myth or legend, there have been reports in the twentieth century of four metre long creatures seen swimming in the lake.

Tizzie-Wizzie

Location: Lake Windermere (Cumbria) - General area
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: 1996
Further Comments: This creature, reportedly part hedgehog, part squirrel, and part bumblebee, has been reported on and off over the past one hundred years.

Giant Eel

Location: Lake Windermere (Cumbria) - Waters of the lake
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: August 2006, and February 2011
Further Comments: In 2006 Steve Burnip and his wife observed an eel-like creature, estimated to be up to six metres long, in the waters of the lake. Steve said the creature had a little head and two humps which protruded from the water. In 2011 Tom Pickles photographed a multiple humped creature in the lake, although the image looks like waves caused by the wake of a boat.

Thick Monster

Location: Land's End (Cornwall) - Off Coast

Further Comments: The crew of an American ship reported seeing a long snakelike creature with a thick body and fierce looking teeth in the water off the coast.

Lion Cubs

Location: Langham (Norfolk) - Council Tip
Type: Cryptozoology

Further Comments: A pair of lion cubs were reportedly seen playing on the tip.

Yellow-eyed Creature

Location: Leece (Cumbria) - Road through the village
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: Winter, late 1990s
Further Comments: While driving through the village, a married couple spotted a large black animal in the middle of the road. They were forced to stop the car, as the creature did not move. It was about two metres high and just under a metre tall, covered in black bristly hair and yellow coloured eyes. One of the witnesses reported that the beast resembled a large cat but was not feline nor dog. The creature eventually moved slowly from the road and stood on the grass verge, enabling the witnesses to drive off.

Shaggy Figure

Location: Leeds (West Yorkshire) - Outer ring road, between Horsforth and Rodley

Further Comments: A driver began to feel overwhelmingly terrified while passing through a valley along this road. To quote, 'stood at the side of the road and looking directly at me, was a very tall, shaggy, brown or black, fur covered shape. At my estimation, it must have stood over two metres tall, around 1.2 metres wide, with no visible limbs or eyes, but I sensed that the eyes were there somewhere, as I could feel them boring into the car'. The witness accelerated away, but the feeling of dread lasted until morning, even after arriving home. Earlier the same year a large black cat was observed crossing the same road.

Lynx?

Location: Leigh-on-Sea (Essex) - Area around the railway station
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: 2005-2010 (and ongoing)
Further Comments: Appearing only at night, a lynx or similar cat is reported to traverse this area.

Red Adder

Location: Leith Hill (Surrey) - Chalk hills in the area
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: Nineteenth century
Further Comments: The snake known as the Red Adder was said to be the colour of burning coals and anyone bitten would die.

Wolverine

Location: Letterston (Dyfed) - Farm in the area
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: September 1992
Further Comments: A farmer in this area twice reported seeing a wolverine on his land, blaming the creature for killing two lambs.

Water Kelpie

Location: Leurbost (Outer Hebrides) - Inland lake
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: March 1856
Further Comments: This thirteen metre long creature was described as eel-like, with huge fins that broke the water as it periodically emerged. Witnesses watched the beast eat a blanket that had accidentally been left on the beach.

Buckshaw Beast

Location: Leyland (Lancashire) - Buckshaw area
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: Late 2009 - Early 2010
Further Comments: Locals reported an animal prowling the area, which may have been responsible for killing several deer. A creature photographed in the area on a camera phone was too poor to be properly identified, although a boar, hyena, wolf and big cat have all been named as the 'beast'.

Emu

Location: Lifton (Devon) - Woods near the town
Type: Cryptozoology

Further Comments: A female jockey reported seeing a large bird in the woods near Lifton, which tried to attack her and her horse.

Humped Creature

Location: Limerick (County Limerick) - River Shannon
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: July 1922
Further Comments: While docked at Limerick, Captain Hugh Shaw and several of his crew reportedly spotted a creature with a three to four metre long neck and single hump moving up the Shannon.

Mermaid

Location: Little Wenlock (Shropshire) - Dary Pit (pool at the foot of the Ercall), likely now known as Dairy Pit

Further Comments: An inland mermaid was once said to live in this pit. Another story says the pit would be used to lay troublesome spirits.

Green Eyed Monster

Location: Llanaber (Gwynedd) - Beach
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: 02 March 1975
Further Comments: Six girls stood around 180 meters from a three meter long creature which crossed the beach and entered the sea. Dusk at the time, it is difficult to see how they could see it clearly enough to describe the creature's eye colour as green.

Fad Felen

Location: Llandrillo-yn-Rhos (Rhos-on-Sea) (Clwyd) - Church

Further Comments: Maelgwn Gwynedd was said to have died after looking through the keyhole of the church door and spotting the beast known as Fad Felen. The monster was said to have emerged from the saltwater marsh and have gold-like eyes, teeth and hair.

Long Sea Monster

Location: Llandudno (Clwyd) - Sea

Date / Time: 03 September 1882
Further Comments: From the safety of the town pier, a small group of people watched a sixty meter long sea monster travelling at 50 kph as it moved towards the Great Orme.

Koala

Location: Llangennith (West Glamorgan) - General area
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: 1990s
Further Comments: Reports of koala bears came in during the 1990s, seen on the roads in this area. No physical evidence has been found.

Flying Pig

Location: Llangollen (Clwyd) - Skies over area

Further Comments: Witnesses reported a large flying creature over the town; it resembled a pig of tremendous size, with stumpy webbed feet.

Healing Eel

Location: Llangybi, near Pwllheli (Gwynedd) - St Cybi's Well
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The sick would dangle their feet into the waters of the well, hoping that the touch of the eel would increase their chances of recovery.

Beithir

Location: Loch a' Mhuillidh (Highland) - Area around the loch
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: Unknown, but active during the summer months
Further Comments: This large water snake was said to be around three metres in length.

Gabriel

Location: Loch Achanalt (Highland) - Waters of the loch
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This water beastie, nicknamed Gabriel, is reputed to be reptilian and some fifteen metres in length.
