Further Comments: The Godstone was said to have granted islanders with control over the weather, credited with increasing the speed of potato growth, and could also put out fires. The stone was cast into the sea at some point in the nineteenth century after a religious man took exception to it. The islands were (or are) also home to an immortal crane - the bird is said to have sat alone from the dawn of time, waiting until the end of the world.

Further Comments: Merely one of the spooks found here, the man in the top hat not putting on the Ritz shares the house with a woman dressed in silken clothes, a former pet dog, and a servant who is doomed to spend the rest of time ascending the staircase.

Further Comments: While travelling along this road during heavy rain at night, a taxi driver encountered someone riding a white horse. The driver had to stop abruptly to avoid the rider, and when the driver looked up, man and horse had vanished. When the witness later mentioned the encounter to other people, they said it was not the first time the entity had been seen.

Further Comments: Paranormal investigation groups reported recording a laugh and a phantom dog barking after the landlady called them in. Locals named the dog as 'Rusty', a Jack Russell who died seventeen years previous.

Further Comments: The gatehouse is haunted by a little girl who asks for her daddy, a man dressed in black killed in a sword fight, and an old lady who breaks the same candle, time after time. A phantom little boy is reported in the stables, as are ghostly chickens and horses.

Further Comments: The ghostly Victorian was just one of several spirits thought to haunt this building; the sound of a small dog was often heard as it ran across the floor, and a man with his head dressed in blood soaked bandages (later named as John Leith, shot by an associate during a duel) was seen by one owner.

Further Comments: This area was the haunt of a headless horseman who died while racing the country roads. His ghost was put to rest after a local man was brave enough to let the decapitated figure ride by his side.

Further Comments: The Arts Centre found itself haunted by a violent manifestation during the 1970s, which destroyed rooms which the owners securely padlocked up. A short spectral man was seen to transform into a black cat before vanishing, leading to speculation that the building was haunted by a demon once summoned by the nearby Hell Fire Club.

Further Comments: A phantom black pig made itself known to children. Adults standing in the same area could not perceive it, even when the children shouted that the entity was running around their feet.

Further Comments: Tourists staying in this cottage were said to have been awaken as the building shook due to a stampede of phantom horses. Footsteps have also been heard outside, and the face of a quickly vanishing sailor observed looking in through windows.

Further Comments: This woman leapt to her death from the battlements after discovering that her father had mistakenly shot dead her newlywed husband. Since her death, she has been seen walking through locked doors and was blamed for knocking unconscious at least two witnesses. The site was also haunted by a rabbit which attacked guards asleep on duty.

Further Comments: A forgetful farmer left his dog out in the sheep's field, where it finally starved to death. The dog's shade now runs around the village, to warn all farmers never to forget their pets.

Further Comments: Someone (apparently) encountered a large, shaggy, donkey-like entity in this area.

Further Comments: This ghostly figure is often spotted out of the corner of one eye, before disappearing. A local legend says that a large, evil bird set up home in the bell tower, interrupting services with its noise - the creature became displaced after the vicar cast a spell with the help of the local community.

Further Comments: This creature is said to still be imprisoned within the walls of this public house - it contained the spirit of an angry local rector who died after falling (or being pushed) down a flight of stairs. In his cockerel form, the rector attacked everyone he met; a maid at the inn finally managed to trap the creature in an oven, and a builder bricked it up.

Further Comments: With an unknown origin, a headless chicken appears and runs blindly around the gravestones.
Location: Leam (Derbyshire) - Leam Hall

Further Comments: A groom and his assistant heard galloping approaching Leam Hall. Expecting the lord and lady of the hall, the pair stood outside awaiting the coach. However, instead of the master's coach, the approaching vehicle was of a 'strange design' and was driven by a headless man. The phantom coach was driven straight past the witnesses and vanished into a closed gate.

Further Comments: Workmen demolishing this old house reported that 'something' was trying to stop them. Brookhurst had a history of hauntings, from the sounds of a large bird-like creature flying around to phantom footsteps and doors which unlocked themselves.

Further Comments: There are mixed opinions to whether the library here is haunted by a grey monk or a white lady. A tormented Cavalier has been seen in the Great Hall, a phantom policeman haunts other parts of the building, a ghostly dog has been reported in the courtyard, a black cat in the Great Hall, and at least one witness claims to have been shocked to see a pair of legs manifest from the portrait of Henry Earl of Huntington hanging in the Major's Parlour. Ghost Scene Investigations and Leicester City Museums released video footage in 2006 of what appears to be a ghostly figure crawling across the floor in one room.
