Further Comments: A phantom monkey which haunted this region was reported in the dim and distant past. The giant Gogmagog is buried here and the threat of their awakening used to keep children from playing near the chalk pits.

Further Comments: Having died in childbirth, Madam Pigott was seen dozens of times carrying her baby and combing its hair. Some also reported the lady also having a cat with her. She was eventually exorcised by twelve parsons, though in 1969 two motorists separately reported a white figure on the road near the church.

Further Comments: It has been speculated that this phantom woman drowned in the lake and now walks around seeking rest. A ghostly white deer is also said to haunt the same area.

Further Comments: This friendly dog is said to escort visitors up the driveway before vanishing. A phantom clergyman also haunts the vicinity, moving between the house and gates.

Further Comments: The clip-clop of phantom hooves has been reported in this area, normally accompanied by a strange pale mist which (it is said) sometimes transforms into a horse with a headless rider.

Further Comments: While on his way home with his dog, Mr Sampson watched two men on horseback riding around the fort. His dog immediately ran home, leaving Sampson to watch the figures as they dismounted and vanish (special thanks to the Churchtown Village Renewal Trust, from their 'The Annals of Churchtown').

Further Comments: Walking his dog one early morning, a man watched a horse and cart appear from nowhere. The man was frozen to the spot. The cart was driven by a weathered man, and appeared quite solid, although old fashioned. After the cart had passed the witness, he composed himself and turned to follow the vehicle, but it had vanished.

Further Comments: The driver of a horse and cart and a passenger were left shaken after encountering the sounds of a horse which passed them, and although nothing could be seen, the sounds were accompanied by a cold gust of wind. A murder had occurred along the road a few years previous, where a woman on horseback was decapitated by a former lover.

Further Comments: A large dog with saucer sized eyes would sit on the roadside. No one would see it move (it would just vanish from view), although if stones were thrown at the creature, the eyes would grow even larger. It once appeared to one man who discovered the time of the sighting matched the time that his father died. The same area is also haunted by a phantom white donkey.

Further Comments: This strangely discoloured creature is reputed to haunt the churchyard.

Further Comments: An entity here would initially take the form of a lady so pretty that any man spotting her would fall in love. The woman would lead the man away from the road, taking them to a cottage filled with demons. The entity would also take the form of a hare, changing into a snake when people came too close.
Location: Colchester (Essex) - Charlotte's Well, Berechurch Hall (demolished 1952)

Further Comments: Located in a hidden part of the grounds, Charlotte's Well was built for a woman after which it took its name. Charlotte is said to have loved the well so much that she could never leave and is said to have been seen since her death around the bathing pool. She may have last been seen walking around a wooded area in a white dress during the winter of 1977, although there are stories that a phantom woman still appears in the area. A phantom coach is also said to ride around the area.

Further Comments: A few days from death, a chambermaid from the inn requested that her body be sent back to Anglesey. The landlord at first agreed, though failed to carry out her last wish, and soon after the building was besieged by otherworldly activity. The owner finally had the body returned to her home, but the ghost has still been seen in the hotel. A phantom cat has also been felt climbing over beds at night.

Further Comments: While driving under the railway bridge, a couple braked hard as a white stag ran in front of their car. Believing they had hit the animal, the two people jumped out of the car but saw the stag running away along the road. A woman, a short distance away past whom the stag would have run, did not see anything.

Further Comments: Thought by locals to contain the spirit of a woman who drowned herself in a nearby pool of water, this black bird had to be exorcised by the area's Bishop.

Further Comments: Over a period of four or five days, two massive flocks of starlings gathered over the city, one in the east and one in the west. On the 12 October, the two flocks took to the air, engaging in combat - covering the city ground with dead and wounded birds. Just before nightfall, both bird armies left the area, but returned for another major engagement and final battle on 14 October.

Further Comments: Four friends camping on the beach decided to walk towards Corton in the early hours of the morning. Sitting down for a rest, two of the group spotted a man with a dog had suddenly appeared a short distance away. Man and dog stood completely motionless, looking out to sea. The two witnesses turned to their friends and tried to point out the man and dog, but they had vanished.

Further Comments: Walking along the lane, one man heard wheels moving along the road followed by the sound of galloping horses - the witness had to jump out of the way. Other people have reportedly heard farm animals in the area, although none are around.

Further Comments: This white bunny is only seen just before a personal disaster strikes - the creature was the pet of a young girl killed by a couple of local thugs.

Further Comments: Several strange shades frequented the castle, including a rabbit that would turn into smoke, a small pixie-like bearded man, and heavy pacing.

Further Comments: Never appearing, this phantom flock can be heard moving along the roads, the occasional 'baaaa' betraying their position.

Further Comments: Soldiers dressed in Second World War uniform have been seen around the castle area, and the site is also said to be haunted by a horse and carriage. As a side note, Bram Stoker is said to have been partly inspired to write Dracula after seeing the castle while staying at Cruden Bay.

Further Comments: An unnaturally large white owl took to hunting over an ancient battlefield, leading locals to believe the creature was magical and should not be interfered with. A visitor to Raglan castle who laughed at the story and killed the owl, himself died a few hours later, choking to death at a dinner table.
