Scared Children

Further Comments: The East Midlands Paranormal group reported that the pub is haunted by frightened children and laughter.

Grey Lady

Location: Huthwaite - Library
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Occasionally seen wearing a grey silk Victorian dress, this female ghost is more likely to generate the sensation of being watched.

Old Man

Location: Huthwaite - Mill Lane
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This elderly gentleman is said to walk down the lane using a stick for support.

Leaping Teacher

Location: Keyworth - South Wolds school
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: There is a myth that a teacher working at the school during the 1960s killed herself by leaping from a third floor window. At least one former student based at the school has reportedly heard the re-enactment.

High Visibility Man

Location: Kimberley - Disused buildings on the hill leading into Kimberley, Main Street (private property)
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 2002
Further Comments: A teenager with a group of friends exploring the sheds on the site spotted a man wearing a high visibility jacket standing in a doorway. The teenager pointed the figure out to the rest of the group, but they could not see anything. They all left the site. About a month later, the teenager returned with another friend, and realised that the doorway in which the man had stood did not exist. The witness was later told that a friend's father had encountered a ghostly man along the road close to the sheds. The man appeared to be 'normal', until he suddenly vanished as the witness walked close.

Large Dog

Location: Kimberley - Field close to the water tower

Further Comments: Pushing their bike up the field, this witness paused to take in the view. Looking back the way they were walking, they spotted a horse-sized black dog ahead. The creature ran along a hedge at the top of the hill. The witness took their eyes from the dog for a moment, during which it vanished.

Grey Horses

Location: Kirkby - The Dumbles
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Summer 1984
Further Comments: A man walking his dog reported seeing a grey coach being pulled by two grey horses. Two grey men sat driving the ghostly vehicle.

Rearrangement

Location: Kirkby in Ashfield - Duke of Wellington public house
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 1980s
Further Comments: Various landlords at the pub are said to have come down in the morning to find the furniture rearranged or thrown around, even though they heard nothing during the night.

Fight

Location: Kirkby in Ashfield - Kirkby Castle (foundations remain west of church) and woodland
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: November 1989
Further Comments: Two people walking through this area heard a fight between a large group of men, though nothing could be seen.

RAF Guard

Location: Langar - Former RAF base
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1973 and 1983
Further Comments: In 1978 one witness watched a man in a uniform walk down a set of steps. The figure smiled at the witness before walking through a wall. While driving away from the site in 1983, a director of a business operating from the former base thought he had hit a uniformed man who had appeared in front of his car. He stopped and looked for what he assumed was an injured person but could find nothing. The same thing happened to him again a few weeks later.

Peggy Whooper

Location: Laxton - Bridge near Bolembeck Lane
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: Said to have been a woman murdered along the lane, Peggy has since taken great delight in upsetting passing horses, causing them to bolt and throw their riders.

Footsteps

Location: Laxton - Church
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Strange sounds were once heard coming from this church, including footsteps and loud bangs. A ghostly figure was observed by one parson.

Man with Goatee

Location: Lenton - Church of St Anthony
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Mid-to-late-twentieth century
Further Comments: This church was said to be home to a phantom man with a goatee. An exorcism performed on the site was said to have been unsuccessful.

George

Location: Lenton - Lenton Hall (aka Lenton Firs Farm)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa 1940s
Further Comments: The phantom here was given the nickname George by the family. George could be heard walking across the ceiling in a particular room that the previous owner had warned was haunted.

Jailer

Location: Lenton - White Hart public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000s
Further Comments: This building was once part of a prison, with the resident ghost believed to be a jailer that manifests as a dark shadow. Ghostly childlike singing has also been heard on site.

Lord Byron

Location: Linby - Newstead Abbey
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The story goes Lord Byron once met the ghostly black friar that haunted this building for close to 500 years, though contemporary legends state Bryon himself now sits in the corridor, near his own picture. Also reported in the area is a white lady who smells of rose petals, Bryon's pet dog Boatswain, and a woman in black who is considered unlucky.

Woman in White

Location: Mansfield - A60 and area around Hall Place (no longer standing)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1950s onwards
Further Comments: This phantom woman in a white dress is thought to have once haunted Hall Place before it burnt down - her ghost has now migrated to the nearby road.

Tall Figure

Location: Mansfield - B684 (Lime Lane)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 13 December 2020, 06:55h
Further Comments: A tall, thin, black figure stepped into the road ahead of a driver, illuminated by headlights on full beam. The figure moved backwards and vanished into a hedge. As the driver passed the spot, no one could be seen.

Mansfield Miner

Location: Mansfield - Clipstone Colliery

Further Comments: Two miners encountered a spectral miner wearing clothing from the 1930s. The entity placed its hand on the shoulder of one of the miners, and both men ran.

Yellow Boots

Location: Mansfield - Mansfield Palace Theatre
Type: Unknown Ghost Type
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A young female witness reported seeing a pair of yellow boots walking themselves across the stage, stopping when the witness tried to draw attention to them.

Walking

Location: Mansfield - New Inn
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The sound of someone walking around the upper floor has been heard when the area should have been empty. A loud crash has also been heard, as if part of the roof had collapsed, though no damage could be found.

Timothy

Location: Mansfield - Oak Tree public house and Southwell Road West
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Timothy was hanged for a crime he did not commit at gallows which once stood nearby - his shade still lurks along the roadside and in the pub, protesting his innocence to any who will listen.

The Supervisor

Location: Mansfield - Pleasley Vale Mills
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The 'Supervisor' is the most spoken about ghost that haunts this site. He is said to have been mistaken for a 'real' person by several people who only realise their mistake when he vanishes in front of them. Two other entities are reputed to haunt the mills; a woman who is thought to have been raped and murdered on site, and a pair of legs seen to walk around without a torso.

Light Switcher

Location: Mansfield - Private house, Ruskin Road
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 2000s
Further Comments: A family moved from this property after they were joined by a spirit that broke crockery and enjoyed causing the lights to flicker.

Flying Saucepan

Location: Mansfield - Private residence, Byron Street
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 21 March 1973 - May 1974
Further Comments: This poltergeist threw a saucepan, pushed over the dining table, and would turn gas and electrical appliances on at night. The young children reported seeing a male figure in their bedroom. It was reported that the activity died down after a visit from a Huthwaite evangelist.
