George

Further Comments: This building was haunted by 'Uncle George', a blood relative of the occupants who had died a few months previous. George would bang on walls throughout the night, hold doors open, and was spotted standing at the foot of a bed.


Joseph Bexfield

Location: Thurlton - Marshes
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: August (reoccurring)
Further Comments: Bexfield drowned in August 1809, after following a Jack O'Lantern (now known to be burning marsh gas). His ghost is said to be still out on the marshes, looking for the way home.


Farmer hunting Murderer

Location: Thurne - Area of Thurne Mouth
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: The area is said to be haunted by a farmer who is trying to track down the man who killed him.


Wolf

Location: Thurton - A146 northbound, between Ferry Road and Hall Road
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: 12 October 2012, approximately 20:30h
Further Comments: A taxi driver reported seeing a large, silver grey creature resembling a wolf eating something in the middle of the road. As the driver passed the creature, it looked up briefly before continuing to eat.


Vanishing Shuck

Location: Thurton - Near the village, precise details unknown
Type: Shuck

Further Comments: While cycling home, a witness reported that a large black dog had leapt out in front of him, before disappearing through a solid wall.


Voice over the Tannoy

Location: Tibenham - Old World War Two Airbase
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This echoing voice has been heard on the ground here using a non-existent tannoy, barking orders at crews who died over fifty years ago. The sound is sometimes accompanied by the sound of a bomber warming up before take off.


Giant

Location: Tilney All Saints - Churchyard
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Eleventh Century?
Further Comments: Tom Hickathrift, the Cambridge giant and hero, is said to have been buried here; his grave marked by a stone eight foot long.


Man in Trilby

Location: Tivetshall St Mary - Road by ruined church
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 10 June 2016, around 23:00h
Further Comments: A witness who spotted a ghostly man in an old fashioned suit and trilby hat was later told the entity was a man who was killed by a car on the spot during the 1950s.


Screaming Children

Location: Trowse - White Horse public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2004
Further Comments: As well as the upset children, witnesses have reported hearing footsteps along deserted corridors in the pub, and pictures have fallen from the walls without reason. The landlord claims to have managed to capture 'orbs' flying around the building on CCTV.


Marshy Bells

Location: Tunstall - Church, and marsh known as Bell Hole (and Hell Hole)

Further Comments: The Devil once appeared in the village, stealing the church bells and sinking them into the nearby marsh. Bubbles in the marsh were said to be the result of the bells continuing to sink into the bottomless pit.


Chimes

Location: Walsingham - Egmere church ruins

Further Comments: Heading towards a shrine, the invisible procession of pilgrims can be heard ringing small hand bells as they move.


Glowing Coach Disappearing in a Flash

Location: Watton - Place near Breccles Hall
Type: Unknown Ghost Type
Date / Time: Early Nineteenth century
Further Comments: A group of poachers who had secretly gathered near Breccles Hall grew concerned when one of their number failed to arrive. They thought that he had been caught by a gamekeeper, until a glowing phantom coach dashed past their hiding place with the missing poacher inside. His screams stopped abruptly as the coach vanished in a bright flash.


Six Members of the Brograve Family

Location: Waxham - Waxham Hall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late eighteenth century
Further Comments: All suffering violent deaths, the six male members of the Brograve family are said to eat and drink in the dining hall, reunited even though several hundred years separates their passing.


Shuck Attack

Location: Wells-next-the-Sea - Lane leading to marshes between Wells & Stiffkey
Type: Shuck
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Local legend says a man was attacked by a shuck down a lane between Wells and Stiffkey. Author Christopher Marlowe was allegedly chased by the same creature a little short time later, while out looking for the beast.


Glowing Owls

Location: West Bilney - West Bilney Hall

Further Comments: A number of barn owls were observed throughout Norfolk, glowing in the dark as if they were large fireflies.


Turquoise Light

Location: West Harling - Woodland near the church
Type: Other
Date / Time: July 2014, 23:00h - 00:00h
Further Comments: Five people metal detecting at night near Mickle Moor Hill watched an illuminous turquoise green light which moved rapidly out of the wood. One of the witnesses said that it moved like no other light, at great speeds and turning at irregular angles. It made no noise, didn't flicker, and they all experienced a strange negative feeling. After watching the light for a few minutes, the five witnesses ran away.


Dropped Tower

Location: West Walton - St Mary's Church

Further Comments: Attempting to steal the bell tower, the Devil dropped it shortly after flying off. The tower landed a few dozen metres away, where it still stands.


John Smythe

Location: Weybourne - General area
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: A locally renown smuggler, John can still be heard whistling to attract the attention of his fellow tax evaders.


Dissatisfied Soldiers

Location: Weybourne - Muckleborgh Collection, Weybourne Camp
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late twentieth century
Further Comments: A private collection of military vehicles and weapons, the former secret location is besieged by cold spots and thumping, disembodied footsteps heard at night.


Coach and Four

Location: Weybourne - Road through village
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: It was once said that a ghostly coach pulled by four horses and driven by a headless figure would pass through the village and vanish into the church wall.


Four Figures

Location: Whitlingham - Ruined church
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Figures move at midnight, but not known if still present
Further Comments: Only visible to unmarried people, the four stone figures which stood around the ruined church tower would animate at midnight, moving around and shaking each other's hands.


Petrified Knight

Location: Wickhampton - Church
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Still present
Further Comments: For the crime of tearing his brother's heart out bare handed, the knight was turned to stone by God - the fighter now rests in the church, still holding the heart. Another version of the story says each brother tore out the heart of the other, and both are present in the church.


Coach

Location: Wicklewood - General area

Further Comments: Emerging from an unknown pit, this ghostly coach tours the neighbourhood before returning to the ground.


Not Really Known

Location: Wiggenhall St Peter - Haunted House (no longer standing)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A large house which stood here had the reputation of being haunted and was actually listed on the 1901 census by that name, although nothing else is known about the nature of the phantom.


White Lady Forewarning Death

Location: Wolterton - Wolterton Hall, 3 miles northwest from Blickling
Type: Crisis Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown - possibly 1894?
Further Comments: Appearing to warn of trouble or a death in the family, the white lady is said to be a member of the Scamler family who once owned the hall.
