Further Comments: Locally known as 'Old Trash', this black dog bounds along the dunes leaving no prints or marks in the soft sand. He was last seen by two journalists and a photographer, though it is unclear whether an image was caught of the entity.

Further Comments: The area around the lake is reportedly home to boggarts and hobs. There are also stories of ghostly Roundheads moving around the area, some on horseback and others wearily walking holding pikes.

Further Comments: A maid was once found murdered along the road, her body partially covered by a layer of snow. Once a year the spot is snow covered, even if the rest of the area is baron.

Further Comments: Murdered on the bridge, this ghoul now extracts revenge by standing by the roadside with a hood covering her face - when approached, she reveals the white skull that is now her face. She was said to have chased a postman, only ceasing the pursuit when he ran past a churchyard and she disappear within.

Further Comments: Haunting the priest room, Lady Eleanor is one of several ghosts reported to haunt this building. The others include priests and monks, St John Wall, blue & white lightning... In total, 16 different ghosts have been listed in the various volumes written about this building. A reasonable summary of these is given in Sally Wallbank's 'Chingle: Britain's Most Haunted House'.

Further Comments: This public house is home to a male spook that haunts the woman's bathroom area. The upper part of the building is said to be haunted by a maid who died on site.

Further Comments: Five shadowy figures, each ninety centimetres tall, were seen emerging a fireplace and crossing a bedroom in this home until they reached another dark figure wearing a crown sitting in a chair. Each of the five shadows offered a gift to the seated figure before they turned and walked back to the fireplace.

Further Comments: The white figure holding his arms by his side was watched by two workers at the mill for several minutes. As they approached, the figure vanished. The ghost stood on the spot where a young electrician died a few years previous.

Further Comments: Raura Peens, the last fairy of the area, may have appeared to a local man at these stones during the nineteenth century. The fairy tried to lure the witness to her realm (or at least a cave under the area) but failed. Another story said the stones were once home to a giant named Heywood.

Further Comments: A giant cow would provide milk to all in the neighbourhood until tricked into passing milk into a sieve. The result was the death of the cow, and it was buried under what is now Cow Hill.

Further Comments: Knee high fairies were once said to use the steps as a stage, dancing along them between sunset and sunrise.

Further Comments: Sue Langham reported seeing a creature around the size of a small dog with a fox-like head and muscular body. The witness said the animal was making the sound of a 'strangled wolf'. Earlier in the month the creature (or something similar) was spotted along Belmont Road.

Further Comments: A former landlady, Holt has been seen drifting along corridors in the building. She also moves heavy barrels in the basement at night.

Further Comments: Seven red lights were seen bobbing up and down as they slowly moved across the sky before fading away. The witness was told the lights were actually 'light reflecting off migrating birds', although they had not seen this effect prior to the sighting or since. The village was considered a hotspot for UFO sightings during the early 2000s.
