Monk

Location: Maidstone - Wooded area off Sittingbourne Road
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Summer, mid 1970s
Further Comments: Two witnesses out exploring the area watched a monk-like figure in a brown habit cross the field and appear to sink into the ground. The witnesses walked over to the area and found a set of steps which led down to a bricked up archway.

Former Pilot

Location: Manston - RAF Manston
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: January 1970 (or 1971)
Further Comments: A MoD fireman was on kitchen duty in the early hours of the morning when he spotted a semi-translucent figure wearing a flying helmet, Irvin jacket and Mae West. The witness quickly left the area and was later told that others had seen the entity. It was generally thought the ghost to be a pilot who crashed into a snow drift during the Second World War.

Gilbert

Location: Marden - Road to Hawkhurst

Date / Time: 24 December (reoccurring)
Further Comments: Gilbert, an eighteenth century highwayman who tried to rob a coach, was stabbed to death by one of the occupants after she recognised him as having killed her brother. The killing drove the woman mad. The scene was said to silently re-enact every Christmas Eve.

Woman

Robed Figure

Location: Margate - Junction of A253 & A266 (some reports say A256)

Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: A gibbet once stood on the junction, and it is thought that the ghostly figure and a phantom light are somehow related to the structure. There are reports that indicate the accident rate in the area is much higher than the national average.

Further Comments: A playful spirit here has been blamed for moving stock around overnight. The ghost is rumoured to be a girl who once worked in a brothel on this site.

Cold Shower

Location: Margate - Private residence in Trinity Square

Further Comments: A workman reported that the building he spent several years renovating was haunted by an unseen entity. He experienced a feeling as if 'walking into a cold shower' while in the basement, while a plumber on site left and refused to say why, even refusing to take payment for the work he had already completed.

Further Comments: A pair of swimmers watched as a 60cm neck rose from the water close to their location - they reported the serpent had horse-like ears.

Sarah Thorne

Location: Margate - Theatre Royal

Date / Time: Circa 1955 and 1972
Further Comments: Sarah was responsible for creating the best company ever seen here - her proud spirit once walked down the aisles and onto the stage. Another ghost, that of an actor who committed suicide, is held responsible for creating strange lights that float around. It is unclear which entity created the disembodied voice that spoke to an actor in an otherwise empty dressing room. In 1972 a workman was reported to have been 'petrified' after spotting a ghost, although who or what he encountered is not known.

Servant

Location: Meopham - Dean Manor

Further Comments: A young servant girl was said to haunt the manor house; the BBC attempted to record the ghost in an early broadcast. A letter in a 1948 edition of the Kentish Express blamed an owl for the haunting, unconvincingly stating the bird would make its kill at midnight, the cries of the dying prey being mistaken as a ghost.

Litle Blue Lady

Further Comments: The phantom little child in blue was said to have unnerved soldiers who were billeted at the building during the Second World War. The child was said to have fallen down the stairs of the house, breaking her neck, while looking for a lost shoe.

Grey Lady

Further Comments: Said to only appear to children, this woman in life was said to love young people; her disapproving husband forbade her to have any offspring and kept her locked up in a small room. Adults can only hear her walking around. Another story says the ghostly woman could be seen descending a staircase and walking through a double door; a pet spaniel first growled at the figure before running towards it in a more friendly manner.

Headless Woman

Further Comments: Two ghosts haunted this council house (the headless woman, and a younger blonde haired girl), forcing the occupants to leave. Two journalists who spent a night in the house reported their room becoming icy cold, and the sounds of creaks and of something sliding along the floors.
