Argyll and Bute Ghosts, Folklore and Forteana

Cry of a Wraith

Location: Tiree - West end of the island
Type: Crisis Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown (pre twentieth century)
Further Comments: Several days before a man drowned at Trabay Beach, a ghostly cry could be heard in the area where the dead man's brother would be told the news of the accident.

Trampling

Location: Tobermory - Farm in the area
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: Pre twentieth century
Further Comments: The sounds of trampling could be heard coming from the barn after dark, even though all livestock would sleep in the byre. Any equipment left in the barn would be found scattered around the area. While today this would likely be blamed on a poltergeist (if not something much more mundane), locals allocated the damage to a Glaistig.

Hugh of the Little Head

Location: Treshnish, Isle of Mull - Exact area not known ('heading towards the shore')
Type: Crisis Manifestation
Date / Time: Nineteenth century
Further Comments: Hugh of the Little Head, a phantom rider upon a black steed, appeared as a death warning to the Maclaine clan. A woman living in Treshnish claimed to occasionally hear Hugh riding past, en route to alerting the Maclaines to an incoming fatality.
