Further Comments: A resident in this property was awoken by the pet dog whimpering in his bedroom. As he took the dog downstairs, through the glass front door he spotted a man wearing a shirt and tie under a trench coat. The man looked around thirty years of age and had a moustache. The resident opened the front door, but the figure had vanished, with no marks left in the snow. Closing the door, once again the resident could see the man on the other side. Flinging the door open, the figure had gone again.

Further Comments: This old road is reputed to be haunted by a monk who once resided at a nearby Benedictine monastery. The bridge along the road has gained an 'occult' reputation, although there does not appear to be any older folklore attached to the location.

Further Comments: Monks were once based on this site prior to the construction of the pub and their ghosts reported to have been seen during the 1960s. The paranormal investigation team Paraception UK were called in 2011 after the landlady reported hearing loud bangs, and the team reported feeling pressure being applied to their throats during the night.

Further Comments: Travelling to work one morning, a driver passed an older couple walking along the road. The driver glanced into the rear view mirror, but the couple had vanished.

Further Comments: A group of three soldiers were seen sitting around a table playing cards in one of the properties reported to be the site of a First World War training camp. Another phantom man in uniform was observed passing through a bathroom wall.

Further Comments: The home of Barbara Cartland is reportedly haunted by dog named Jimmy, which once belonged to her son before the canine was put down. It was here that Beatrix Potter witnessed a dozen candles snuffed out by an unseen hand.

Further Comments: The coach, pulled by a team of horses, belts down the driveway, enters the house, and disappears while ascending the staircase. In 2017 a visitor to the house spotted a man in Stuart attire reading a book while sitting by a window. The witness, believing the figure to be a reenactor, pulled out their phone to take a photograph, but the figure had vanished. The witness asked around and staff said there were no costumed actors in that day (nor any scheduled for the near future).

Further Comments: The driver of a steam train passing through Hatfield Station reported a phantom man who stepped from the platform into the engine (even though the vehicle was travelling at 55 mph). The icy, dark-clothed entity forced the driver to stop the train, which ground to a halt at Hitchin station; the driver then noticed that the track ahead was blocked, and that the steam engine would have crashed into the obstruction if it were not for the ghost.

Further Comments: While driving home, this witness watched a caped figure with a wide-brimmed hat cross the road in front of their car. The figure did not appear in the rear-view mirror. Another witness spotted the figure in 2012, and said the figure felt so 'wrong' that the police were called.

Further Comments: A cream coloured wolf was spotted by occupants of a car while passing through this area. They stopped close to the creature which did not run off, apparently unfazed by the human presence. A few days later they observed the creature again. Some believe the creature to be more mundane and is a large German Shepherd.

Further Comments: Either an early UFO or fairy sighting (or maybe both), a brother and sister watched a thirty centimetre long biplane land nearby and a tiny occupant dressed in flying gear waved at them. The aircraft then took off.

Further Comments: The chapel is reputedly haunted by a phantom monk, and a local author also threatened to haunt the location. Mr Reginald Hine, at the start of the twentieth century, said he loved the place so much that he threatened to haunt the church to protect it from any redevelopment work. An unconvincing photograph does exist of the phantom monk.
