Further Comments: The ghost of Roger became so troublesome that it was trapped within a bottle and buried under his monument. Despite this, he still returns, and to be touched by the hooded shade is an indication the witness shall die within the year.

Organ Plays

Further Comments: Several times, late at night, the church organ was heard to burst into tune, stopping as investigators reach the churchyard.

Devil

Location: Brampton Bryan - Park
Type: Legend - Old Nick
Date / Time: 03 September (reoccurring)
Further Comments: Local legend says that on the day Cromwell died, the park was laid to waste as the Devil passed though it to collect the soul due to him. Now, once a year, Old Nick rides out and returns to the park to ravage it once more.

Grey Lady

Location: Bringsty - Brockhampton Estate
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 1970s - 1990s
Further Comments: Rooms were left empty as various strange events drove occupants from them, including the lifting of bedcovers and the sounds of footsteps walking around. An exorcism failed to dispel the entity. A phantom Victorian woman is also said to walk the manor.

George and the Dragon

Location: Brinsop - Lower Stanks and Duck's Pool Meadow near the church

Further Comments: The village of Brinsop claims to be the location where St George had his famous battle with a dragon. The creature lived in Duck's Pool Meadow but was finally slain at Lower Stanks meadow. An old stone carving in the church depicts the final battle.

Steering Wheel Fight

Location: Bromyard - A465 near the town

Date / Time: Twenty-first century
Further Comments: Many of the deaths on the road here are blamed on an entity which grabs the steering wheel and prevents people from turning at corners - the ghost is said to be that of a woman who once died while fighting someone as she sat in the driving seat of a fast moving car.

Where is Anne?

Location: Bromyard - Falcon Hotel

Further Comments: The ghost of a young gentleman who walks around the second floor of the building has been heard asking the question 'Where is Anne?'.

The Black Bird of Bronsil.

Demon Bird

Location: Bronsil - Bronsil Castle

Further Comments: A large black bird was once said to protect a pile of hidden gold within the castle grounds. The hoard could not be moved unless the bones of Lord Beauchamp, former owner of the gold, were in possession of the treasure hunter.

House of the Dead

Location: Callow - Callow Hill

Further Comments: The building which infrequently materialises on the hill was demolished long ago and was the site of several chilling murders.

Ghostly Mission

Location: Clifford - Clifford Castle

Further Comments: A Welsh gentleman was approached by the ghost of a clergyman. The phantom asked the man to travel to Clifford Castle, before revealing the location to where some money was hidden. This money was to be thrown into a nearby river. The gentleman completed the task, and never encountered the ghost again.

Monks with Body

Location: Colwall - Road near village green known as 'Haunted Lane'
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 01 February 1940, and circa 1975
Further Comments: A woman cycling along the lane during the Second World War encountered a procession of cowled monks carrying the body of a young man draped in black. Pedalling away from the scene, the woman was overtaken by a ghostly horseman also galloping from the monks. Man and horse vanished as they reached the railway bridge in the village. Many years later two children walking home encountered a tall, hooded monk along a country lane. They quickly ran past.

Rotating Stone

Location: Colwall - Stone in the centre of the village

Date / Time: Every night at midnight (reoccurring)
Further Comments: Old Nick appears at midnight every night to turn the stone around.

Historical

Location: Croxley Green - York House School

Further Comments: A local news outlet referred to the 'history room ghost', located within a former manor house bedroom now used as a small annex. No other details were forthcoming.

The Hummadruz

Location: Dorstone - Arthur's Stone

Further Comments: For many years people have reported hearing a strange humming sound around this area, without apparent cause.

Witches

Location: Garway - Garway Hill
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A piece of local folklore says, 'There will always be nine witches from the bottom of Orcop to the top of Garway, as long as water flows'. Depending on the story, the witches either helped a man recover his wife who had been kidnapped by fairies, or had brought her back from the dead.

Drowning Lovers

Location: Goodrich - Goodrich Castle

Date / Time: Weather dependent: Stormy weather (screaming)
Further Comments: A failed escape from Cromwellian soldiers resulted in a young officer and his lover drowning in the river Wye. Their ghosts, mounted on horseback, have been reported struggling in the river, standing in the ruins of the nearby castle, or heard screaming during storms. In addition, an imprisoned Irish chieftain who died trying to escape is said to haunt the Macbeth tower.

Quaker

Location: Hereford - Churchill Gardens

Further Comments: Passing through the gardens on the way home, a witness described the phantom Quaker which he encountered as taking more form the longer he looked at it. The entity appeared to be pointing in the direction he was walking.

Flying Pictures

Location: Hereford - Private Flat, Newton Farm area
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 1996
Further Comments: Pictures would fly off the wall, mugs moved around the rooms, and the television set would turn itself off and on. One visitor to the site was grabbed by an unseen hand which left a red mark.

Ruby

Location: Hereford - Queen's Arms public house

Date / Time: Circa 1984
Further Comments: A former landlady, Ruby would be seen wearing a black dress around the site. Another phantom, that of a white Anglo-Saxon warrior, was also reported and may have been caught on a photograph.

Herbalist

Location: Hereford - Seventeenth century house in town centre, towed into a new location in 1966, High Street

Further Comments: After accidentally killing his assistant via overdose, the herbalist who worked here then took his own life. His ghost has haunted it since.

Dark Figures

Location: Hereford - Shirehall (currently Crown Court and council chamber)

Further Comments: During an organised ghost hunt/seance, dark figures were seen, and unpleasant smells detected.

White Monk

Location: Hereford - St Peter's Square and Hereford Cathedral
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1930s
Further Comments: A phantom monk moves away from the area of the war memorial, and heads towards the cathedral. Once at the destination, the phantom vanishes through the oak door. The ghost was observed by two policemen during the 1930s. The unnatural monk has also been spotted moving around the cathedral, normally in December. It is also worth noting that while normally dressed in white, other reports state the ghost wears dark clothing.

Apothecary

Location: Hereford - The old house (embedded into a newer building), High Street

Further Comments: A seventeenth century house carefully moved from its original site in 1966 was reputed to be haunted by an apothecary who took his own life after accidently poisoning his apprentice.

Old Taylor

Further Comments: This ghostly figure is reputed to walk around the area.

Dancing Dwarfs

Location: Kenchester - Roman Ruins

Further Comments: The little people here made their homes in the Roman ruins scattered around.
