Solid Gold

Location: Littlebredy (aka Little Bredy) - The Grey Mare & Her Colts (long barrow)

Further Comments: Hidden under the Grey Mare is reputedly a coffin made from solid gold. There is also a local legend that connects the barrow to a phantom horse that runs around the area.

William Light

Location: Litton Cheney - Baglake House

Further Comments: Mr Light committed suicide within the walls of the building in the 1740s, and now his spirit is finding it hard to rest. Another presence has been reported, always denoted by the sound of rustling silk.

Headless Man

Location: Loders - Yellow Lane

Further Comments: The lane is said to be haunted by a coachman who lost his head while travelling too fast - he hit an overhanging branch, decapitated him in an instant.

Coach

Location: Long Bredy - Kingston Russell House

Further Comments: The driveway of the house is said to be haunted by a coach containing a headless footman and four headless passengers, driven by a headless coachman, pulled by a team of four headless horses.

Horse & Cart

Location: Longham - Bridge

Further Comments: While overtaking a slow moving lorry, a driver spotted a grey horse and cart to the side of the bridge ahead of him. When the driver reached the bridge, the horse had vanished.

Lady in White

Further Comments: A woman in a flowing white dress is said to haunt the banks of the river close to the village.

Lulworth Cove, Lulworth Cove.

Napoleon

Location: Lulworth Cove - Beach
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century?
Further Comments: Napoleon, or a figure looking very much like the military leader, is said to appear along this stretch of coastline accompanied by another man. Napoleon looks at maps before folding them up and vanishing along with his unidentified sidekick.

Farmer's Wife

Location: Lulworth Cove - Castle Inn (was The Jolly Sailor)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Nineteenth century
Further Comments: A glowing ball of light that haunted a former landlord for several days was believed to be his wife, who had recently died. This haunting stopped after the landlord honoured his wife's dying request and gave her possessions to their daughter. More recently there were reports of a phantom old lady on the site.

Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, Dorset.

Screaming

Location: Lulworth Cove - Durdle Door
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1930s
Further Comments: A local legend says that when the nearby castle of Lulworth burnt down, the servants escaped and met at Durdle Door. A freak wave caught the huddled mass of dazed and confused people and they were swept away. The ghostly cries and screams of the drowning servants are occasionally heard in the area. During the 1930s, a naval officer watched a dozen phantom females dancing around on the beach.

Dark Hound

Further Comments: A phantom black dog, possibly a shuck, is said to haunt this area.

Glowing Room

Location: Lulworth Cove - Lulworth Castle (was ruined, now restored)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1500s-1800s
Further Comments: A room in the castle would be illuminated by an eerie radiance at night - it was said that it glowed so brightly that the room was once knocked down and rebuilt, only to start radiating the mysterious light again.

Further Comments: The area is reportedly so haunted that one can go at any time of the day and night and listen in to the quiet whispers of the dead.

Mrs Langton

Location: Lyme Regis - Angel Inn, Coombe Street
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: A former landlady horrified upon discovering her daughter was an alcoholic, Mrs Langton (or Lawton) took the news quite hard, and has yet to leave her pub. The phantom landlady has been reported several times standing over people's beds, and her presence is described as comforting.

Mr Wobbly Head

Location: Lyme Regis - Broad Street

Further Comments: This street is haunted by a man with a strangely rolling head - local legend says he was hanged but continued to live after his neck was broken.

Judge Jeffreys

Location: Lyme Regis - Great House (aka Chatham House), Broad Street

Further Comments: The shade of Jeffreys still resides in this building, where he ate and worked while hanging rebels. He is said to walk around the building after dark, waving a bloody bone in the air.

Duke of Monmouth

Further Comments: The ghostly figure of the Duke of Monmouth, upon a white horse, is said to ride inland.

Missing Corner

Location: Lyme Regis - Old Black Dog Hotel (was the Black Dog public house)
Type: Shuck
Date / Time: Corner incident unknown, phantom last seen 1959
Further Comments: The shuck which lives here is reported to have knocked off the corner of the pub while passing by one night. The shuck was last seen in 1959 and was described as the size of a calf with glowing red eyes.

Coach and Horses

Further Comments: This piece of road is haunted by a coach that vanished without trace many years ago.

Hanged People

Location: Lyme Regis - Royal Lion Hotel

Further Comments: Facing the old executioners place, the hotel is home to some of the spirits of those killed for their crimes. Disembodied footsteps and misty figures have both been reported here.

Fisherman

Location: Lyme Regis - The Old Watchhouse (was a fish shop)

Further Comments: Workers at this fish shop became convinced it was haunted after hearing laughter and the sensation of a hand felt being placed upon someone's back. Since the reports, the shop has undergone a management change and it is unclear whether the ghost remains.

Musketeers

Location: Lyme Regis - Volunteer Inn

Further Comments: A guest at the inn spotted three men wearing colourful musketeer style military uniforms standing near the bar drinking from tankards. It was believed that she had witnessed phantom Civil War officers readying themselves for the siege that occurred in the town in 1644.

The Mourning Coach

Location: Lytchett Matravers - Huntick Hill (aka Hunting Hill)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Nineteenth century (coach), backseat phantom 1999
Further Comments: Said to be brilliantly illuminated, this driverless, horse-drawn coach is said to be quite beautiful. The coach is said to start its journey from where a gibbet once stood. A driver reported seeing someone sitting on the backseat of his car while driving down this road in 1999, who vanished within seconds.

Night Stalker

Further Comments: This nonmaterial figure is said to follow local people home, before peeking through their front door and vanishing. The figure was last seen crossing a garden.

Further Comments: Somewhere along this road, four headless pallbearers hurry along before vanishing into a hedge.
