Anne Boleyn

Location: Wilmslow - Bollin Hall (demolished nineteenth century, likely a railway viaduct now stands on the site)

Further Comments: It was claimed that the hall was both the birthplace of Anne Boleyn and where her ghost returned.


A ghostly woman in the mist.

Young Woman in White

Location: Winnington - Winnington Hall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1870s?
Further Comments: This unnamed woman managed to accidentally lance an artery and bled to death in the 1770s. Her phantom was last encountered by an Irish labourer who spotted her surrounded by mist.

Man in Overcoat

Location: Winsford - Bostock Road, Wharton Green
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 18 November 2010, 00:20h
Further Comments: While cycling home, this witness spotted a man drifting along the road. The phantom wore a heavy long coat with a hat not too dissimilar to that which a cowboy would wear. The figure's legs were not visible. The witness watched the figure for around ten seconds and when eye contact was made, the apparition vanished.

Mirror Smasher

Location: Winsford - De.bees nightclub

Further Comments: An orb was blamed for smashing a mirror in the toilets when no one was present - footage of the incident was uploaded to YouTube.

Victorian Child

Location: Winsford - Old Star Inn
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Previous landlords were said to have encountered a Victorian child who wanders the corridors at night. The cellar is said to have a spooky atmosphere.


This pig could have also moved a church, but didn't want to.

Pig the Builder

Location: Winwick - Church
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The foundations of the church were set in another location, but a squealing pig moved them all in one night to the spot where St Oswald fell in battle. A carving of the pig exists in the church wall.

Hitchhiker in Leather

Location: Wybunbury - A51 near to the town
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 20 October 1996
Further Comments: A driver picked up a male hitchhiker wearing old style motorbike leathers - a short while into the journey, driver realised that the hitcher had vanished, though the seatbelt was still in place and the door was locked.
