Nun and Nurse

Location: Huntingdon - Nun's Bridge over Alconbury Brook
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1965
Further Comments: It is unknown where the nurse's ghost came from, but the nun is thought to have had an affair with a monk during her lifetime. After the affair was discovered, the nun was killed for her 'crime'.

Passing Through

Location: Huntingdon - Falcon public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1960s (door opening)
Further Comments: Oliver Cromwell is said to have used the building as a temporary base, which may explain the Civil War era troops seen here. During the 1960s, one witness watched a door on one side of the room open and close, and after a few seconds, the door on the opposite side of the room did likewise, as if something invisible had walked through the room. Another piece of folklore says a tunnel ran from the building to the site of the old castle (since demolished).

Sounds of a Motorbike

Location: Ickleton - Mill Lane

Further Comments: For six months, the sound of machinery reminiscent of a motorbike engine haunted a family. The noise emerged from a solid bedroom wall.

Artist in the Bar

Further Comments: A visiting medium said that a total of four ghosts haunted this pub - an artist who hangs around the snug bar, one in the kitchen, and a mother and son who haunt the upper part of the building.

Catherine of Aragon

Location: Kimbolton - Kimbolton Castle

Date / Time: 1536 onwards
Further Comments: The first wife of Henry VIII was imprisoned here for the last two years of her life. Legend says Catherine of Aragon's ghost walks the gallery, after dying in one of the rooms in 1536. Another shade, belonging to a young child, began to haunt the building after she was thrown from the battlements. The paving slab which the child landed on is said to glow blue on the anniversary of the event.

Old Man in the Corner

Further Comments: This ghost, sometimes seen sitting in the corner of the pub, has often moved around the chairs in the bar during the night, and is said to tap people on the shoulders when something annoys him.

Legless Man

Location: Linton - The Bell public house (no longer open)

Further Comments: Cut off at the knees, this Elizabethan gentleman was said to be not an uncommon visitor to the pub. During a period of renovation, it was discovered the old floor of the public house was fifty centimetres lower than it currently was.

Secret Tunnel

Date / Time: Weather Dependent: Visible during snow
Further Comments: A secret tunnel used by highwaymen is said to connect these two properties. When it snows, the snow is said to melt above the tunnel, revealing its location.

Wall Banging

Further Comments: A poltergeist outbreak here resulted in doors opening and closing unaided, books being thrown across rooms, and loud banging on the walls.

Highwayman

Grey Lady

Further Comments: A grey lady once haunted this building. She manifested before a young child who promptly told the entity to 'go away'. The entity vanished and never returned.

Stabbed Bulldog

Location: Littleport - Bulldog Bridge, which connects Littleport & Shippea Hill

Further Comments: After saving a local girl from a friar who attempted to rape her, the dog was killed by her attacker. It can now be seen crossing the bridge.

Jessop's Dream

Location: Littleport - House around 300 metres from the bottom of Little Ditchment Close (no longer present)

Further Comments: James Jessop had three dreams in one night, in which he heard the cries of murder; after each dream he awoke before falling back to sleep. The following evening the body of a woman was recovered from the area.

Faceless Man

Location: Longstanton - Road through the village

Further Comments: While driving home, a witness spotted a shadowy figure standing on the side of the road. The driver manoeuvred to give the figure plenty of room as he passed, and then noticed the figure had no facial features. Looking back in his rearview mirror, the driver could see that the figure had vanished.

Dark Figure Crossing

Further Comments: A driver watched a dark figure cross the busy motorway, walking as if the road was devoid of traffic. The driver was convinced that no one could cross the road without an accident occurring.

Party with Ugly Young Man

Location: Madingley - Madingley Hall

Date / Time: Varies: 24 December Lady Ursula seen. Party reported in September 1963
Further Comments: One witness claimed to have heard a ghostly party, followed by the sighting of a stuffy young man, whose face resembled that of a skeleton. Others have also reported similar occurrences, describing the man as having a decaying green face. Lady Ursula Hynde also returns to the hall once a year, upset at her son's actions - he pulled down a church, and used the wood to finish construction of Madingley Hall.

Former Supervisor

Further Comments: This site is said to be haunted by a former supervisor, who still wears an old uniform with peaked cap, and continues to keep an eye on the site. His presence is denoted by disembodied footsteps and doors heard opening and closing.

Fen Tiger Returns

Miss Howard
