UFO Sightings and Alien Encounters

Three Discs

Location: Conisborough (Yorkshire) - Skies above town
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 28 March 1966
Further Comments: The famous black and white photograph of three discs flying over the town taken by a 15 year old schoolboy remains a mystery to this day.

White Light

Location: Conisholme (Lincolnshire) - Area around wind farm
Type: UFO
Date / Time: January 2009
Further Comments: After a wind turbine was found damaged (one blade bent, another laying on the ground), several theories emerged to explain why the incident had happened. County councillor Robert Palmer reported seeing a round white light which hovered near the area, while the media reported that John Harrison had seen a massive ball of light with something akin to tentacles reaching for the ground. While the 'ufo hit our turbine' stories were popular with the media, there is a high chance that the blade just fell off, hitting the second blade as it fell.

Fog Bank with Flag

Location: Corton (Suffolk) - Beach
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 29 March 1890
Further Comments: In what could be an early UFO sighting, a man walking along the beach watched a localised 'fog bank' sitting on the sand, with a huge flagpole sticking out. After ten minutes, the object rose and faded from view.

Saucer

Location: Coventry (West Midlands) - Wyken Croft
Type: UFO
Date / Time: Summer 1972
Further Comments: While staying with relatives, a witness watched a saucer shaped object with blue lights. The saucer was bright metal, and the object hovered for a while before moving off at high speed. The witness ran downstairs to tell someone but was so shocked that they were unable to speak and soon realised that even although the sighting only appeared to last a few minutes, three hours had gone by.

Flying Saucer with Lights

Location: Crosshouse (Ayrshire) - Sky above the village
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 2013
Further Comments: A mother thought her daughter had been attacked after hearing her screaming along the road. As she ran inside, the mother received a call from the mother of her daughter's friend who said that they had seen a flying saucer with coloured lights around it. The mother ran outside and spotted the object in the sky.

Fifty Pence

Location: Croydon (Surrey) - Purley Way
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 1970s, 07:30h
Further Comments: A witness walking to the nearby college suddenly realised there was no traffic on the roads. Something made him look up only to see a large a fifty pence (heptagon) shaped craft hovering silently in the sky. It had a red underbelly, bright silver sides and moved from left to right. The witness looked down briefly, during which time the craft started to move away at incredible speed. The witness chased it across the road (traffic had appeared again) but it had disappeared. The witness later found out that he had lost an hour of time.

Silver Ball

Location: Devizes (Wiltshire) - A361 heading towards Avebury
Type: UFO
Date / Time: Spring 2023, midday
Further Comments: From the passenger seat, a witness watched a silver ball bearing-like object hovering in the sky. The large, stationary object hung quite low and did not move for two minutes, despite the windy conditions.

Four Balls

Location: Didsbury (Lancashire) - Sky looking north
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 04 May 2008, 23:10h
Further Comments: Four orange balls of light were spotted silently floating in the sky, forming a pyramid. They remained for quite some time.

Glowing Saucer

Location: Docking (Norfolk) - Outskirts of the village
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 1969, around midnight
Further Comments: Driving home from his shop, as Robin Peck approached the village his van's engine cut out. He climbed out of the vehicle and as he lifted the car's bonnet, Robin realised that this hair was standing up. It was then Robin realised that a glowing, saucer shaped object was hovering around ninety metres away. After a short while, the object darted away, and the van started working again.

Orange Triangle

Location: E17 (Greater London) - Skies over Walthamstow
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 18 October 1996
Further Comments: Two children reported seeing a large orange triangular shaped object above them, making a funny noise.

Silver Cigar

Location: East Dean (Sussex) - Skies above
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 01 February 2008
Further Comments: A silver cigar shaped aircraft was spotted flying high over East Dean. It left no vapour trail and moved steadily before darting off at an incredible speed.

Football Shaped Object

Location: Eyke (Suffolk) - Skies over Eyke
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 1980s
Further Comments: Just down the road from the famous Bentwaters UFO incident, several villagers have reported other strange craft in the skies above the area.


Off the coast of Felixstowe.

Black Shape

Location: Felixstowe (Suffolk) - Off Coast
Type: UFO
Date / Time: September 2006
Further Comments: A group of eight people watched a perfectly round, dark object silently traverse the sky. No lights were visible from the object. A strange fiery UFO has also been spotted off the coast, though the date of this sighting is unknown.

Orange Orbs

Location: Felixstowe (Suffolk) - Skies northwards at Old Felixstowe

Date / Time: 01 July 2006
Further Comments: On a very hot summer evening two orange orbs were seen falling from the sky. Moving extremely fast, they appeared to chase each other. The objects were watched for around ten seconds before dropping and disappearing behind the horizon.

2004 Hotspot

Location: Filey (Yorkshire) - Skies over town
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 2004
Further Comments: Filey was named as UFO hotspot of the year, after local UFO groups received 48 reports of unidentified flying objects over a twelve month period.

Dead Alien

Location: Gateshead (Tyne and Wear) - Hedley Street and St Cuthbert's Church
Type: UFO
Date / Time: Spring 1940
Further Comments: Five-year-old Robert Hall, together with other children, encountered several strange figures shortly after observing an egg-shaped flying object. One of the figures resembled a short bigfoot, while another had a skeletal body and bat wings. After taking a sample of Robert's blood, the figures left. The following day, a short 'grey'-like alien appeared to Robert. The boy's screams brought his uncle to the scene, who killed the alien with a shovel. A local story says the alien's body is buried in a nearby churchyard (or concealed within a secret room).

Washing Machine

Location: Gilling West (Yorkshire) - Area around Crabtree Farm
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 02 August 2007, 01:00h
Further Comments: During an overnight camping and fishing trip, Philip Cotton and Jean Clark watched a rotating orange and blue object that made a sound like a washing machine. They retreated to their car because the noise grew too loud, but reported the light was 'friendly' and they did not feel afraid of it.

Three Orange Globes

Location: Glasgow (Lanarkshire) - London Road, Carm
Type: UFO
Date / Time: Circa 1979, 16:40h
Further Comments: An apprentice joiner spotted three bright orange globe-shaped lights in the sky while walking from work. He rushed home and told his parents, who laughed at his tale until a local radio broadcast mentioned several people had reported orange lights over the city.

Orange Light

Location: Glasgow (Lanarkshire) - Skies above the East End
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 2 January 2011
Further Comments: One witness reported seeing a bright orange light moving slowly below the cloud line. The witness then heard a massive roar, like fighter planes, heading towards the light. The light shot upwards and disappeared into clouds.

Fireballs

Location: Glasgow (Lanarkshire) - Skies above town
Type: UFO
Date / Time: December 1752
Further Comments: There are reports of two fireballs seen over the town during this month; one flew over the town while the second exploded, showering the area in sparks and hail stones.

Bright Ball

Location: Glendale, Isle of Skye (Highland) - Exact location not known
Type: UFO
Date / Time: Winter mid 1990s
Further Comments: Three men watched a bright glowing ball, between four to five feet in diameter pass a few feet over a house and descend into a field where it disappeared in a small flash of light. The following day they went to check where the ball had vanished but found nothing. One witness said the ball had a white centre but glowed different colours at the edges.

Sharp Turner

Location: Glendale, Isle of Skye (Highland) - Skies in the area
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 31 December 1998
Further Comments: Two men walking dogs along the shore at dusk spotted a bright star-like light at high altitude. One witness said that he would have passed it off as a military jet, but it made an instant 140 degree turn before disappearing into clouds.

Flying Square

Location: Glossop (Derbyshire) - Road between Glossop and Chapel-en-le-Frith
Type: UFO
Date / Time: August 1962
Further Comments: Teacher Michael Valance encountered a flying box hovering over the moors. He reported the UFO as glowing and having four bright windows. The craft vanished after several minutes.

Flying Wheelie Bin

Location: Gorleston (Norfolk) - Skies over Brasenose Avenue area
Type: UFO
Date / Time: 24 August 2007
Further Comments: Several people spotted a strange wheelie bin-shaped object flying silently across the sky, fire seemingly coming from the bottom of the craft. One man photographed the object, and although the images were reasonably clear, the object remained unidentifiable until it was reported in the local press the 'craft' was a home-made hot air balloon.

Huge Shape

Location: Grantham (Lincolnshire) - Skies over the area
Type: UFO
Date / Time: Circa 1980/1981
Further Comments: A family driving home spotted a huge object in the sky, so large that it appeared to blot out the sky as it moved slowly across. When the family arrived home, one phoned the local radio station to report it and was told 'many' others had also reported it, and that the RAF had told the station that it was a crashing Russian spy satellite.
