Further Comments: A misty male figure was caught on CCTV in the pub, entering through a door that swings open.


Location: Neath - The Greyhound public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000s
Further Comments: A former drinker at the pub, Bryn has returned several years after he died. The cellar is said to be haunted by a more sinister entity, though details are fleeting.

Smoke Without Fire

Location: Overton - White Horse public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2008
Further Comments: Landlady Sam Nikolic reported several strange events in the pub, including a room which filled with smoke (even though no source could be found) and the sounds of someone walking around empty parts of the building.

White Horse Upright

Location: Oxwich - Churchyard
Type: Other
Date / Time: Early nineteenth century
Further Comments: This ghostly creature walks around on hind legs, ending the jaunt as it vanishes down an ancient well.

Angry Fairies

Location: Penmaen - Pennard Castle (ruins)
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The owner of this former castle once refused the local fairies the right to dance at his wedding party. The upset little people conjured up a massive storm which then destroyed the building. The site is now home to a Gwrach-y-rhibyn.

Further Comments: This old hag is said still to haunt the ruins here.

White Lady

Location: Port Talbot - Aberavon Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: Reported to float above the castle ruins, this phantom white lady could be Jane de Afan, the last occupant of the castle.

White Lady

Location: Port Talbot - Afan Castle

Date / Time: Pre-nineteenth century?
Further Comments: This phantom woman appears on or near the castle mound, located close to Saint Mary's churchyard.


Location: Port Talbot - Hafod Farm

Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The ghost of a man appeared to a farm labourer several times. The labourer finally listened to the entity who told the man to go to Neath and dig at a certain location. The labourer did as instructed and found enough gold to construct a row of cottages.

Cursed Wall

Location: Port Talbot - Wall on the site of Tata Steel
Type: Curse
Date / Time: Still present
Further Comments: Back in the sixteenth century, as the last monks were removed from their land, one brother cursed a nearby farmhouse. The brother said that if the building ever fell, the local community would fall with it. Work has been carried out to ensure the remaining wall of the ruined farmhouse has remained upright. A ghostly monk in white is also said to lurk in the area.

White Woman

Location: Rhosili - Paviland Cave, between village and Port Eynon
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: This cave is haunted by a greedy woman who entered it looking for hidden treasure - a sudden storm blew up, trapping and drowning her.

Palaeolithic Man?

Location: Rhossili - Moors near the village
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The sensation of evil and of being watched found by some in this area has been blamed on the ghosts of Stone Age man who once lived there.

Coach & Horses

Location: Rhossili - Old Rectory
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The ghost of a smuggler driving his coach runs around the sandy area of this building, while on some nights a macabre entity is seen climbing out of the sea and enters the rectory. This may be the same entity which asks (in a gruff voice) 'why don't you turn around and look at me?' - those who do so have never seen anything.

Footsteps on Staircase

Location: Swansea - Cafe Gallery, Salubrious Passage, Wind Street
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late 1991
Further Comments: An artist ran away from the building after hearing footsteps on the attic stairs and feeling an intense cold spot. The building is said to have been haunted for many years.


Location: Swansea - Crumlyn Lake (aka Llyn Crymlyn), now Crymlyn Bog
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A fairy maiden was said to live in the waters of this lake. It was also said a large town once stood here but it was swallowed by the lake (after the locals insulted Saint Patrick) and then used by the fairies to contract their kingdom. A slight variation says the fairies were once the townsfolk before they were submerged. Bells could occasionally be heard coming from the water.


Location: Swansea - DVLA building, basement and floors D15/D16
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1950s onwards?
Further Comments: A shadowy monk wearing medieval garb is said to haunt the basement in this government building, while on the floors above, lights flicker on and filing cabinet drawers are opened unaided.


Location: Swansea - Grand Theatre
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1980s
Further Comments: An actress who went down with the Titanic, Jenny last acted in this theatre before meeting her doom. She is now seen dressed in brilliant white, quickly vanishing into thin air after being spotted.

Dead Miners

Location: Swansea - Morfa Colliery
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1890
Further Comments: As if attempting to warn against the incoming disaster that killed 87, the days leading up to the event bore witness to screams and cries coming from the mining tunnels, and visual reports of miners who had previously lost their lives.

White Figure

Location: Swansea - Mumbles, Caswell
Type: Other
Date / Time: April 1887
Further Comments: A white figure with a black face which was initially thought a ghost by witnesses turned out to be, in the best Scooby Doo fashion, an employee of the Oystermouth Water Works (who claimed to have dressed up to scare his children). An unimpressed mob stripped the man of his white clothing and the local vicar issued a sound telling off.


Location: Swansea - Neighbourhood of York Place

Date / Time: Circa November 1895
Further Comments: A ghost was reported to have pointed at a certain spot in this neighbourhood, where human remains were later found.


Location: Swansea - Pluck Lake
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: 27 April 2008, and July 2015
Further Comments: In 2008, a witness reported seeing a one metre long crocodile in this body of water. The location was checked by a member of the Centre for Fortean Zoology, Gwilym Games. Seven years later, video footage was captured of a bird being attacked by something in the water, with various people claiming the creature was a terrapin or a pike rather than a croc.


Location: Swansea - Psychiatric hospital

Further Comments: Olga was a paranoid schizophrenic who managed to kill herself while at the hospital. She has since made several appearances; a small woman with large green eyes and long ginger hair, she often sings and interacts with witnesses, who do not realise she is a ghost until later.

Welsh Polt

Location: Swansea - Rhondda Street
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: December 1965
Further Comments: The police were called to investigate this poltergeist, which turned furnishings over and drove the Howells family to leave the property. Marcia, the matriarch of the family, described the experience on a local news channel, saying that her son could have been killed when the entity overturned his cot.

Location: Swansea Bay - Oystermouth Castle

Further Comments: The castle grounds are haunted by this crying phantom with a bloody back.

Entrance to Fairyland

Location: Vale of Neath - General area
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Possible twelfth century
Further Comments: Elidurus visited fairyland via an entrance located somewhere in the Vale. In the other land, horses and greyhounds were the same as our world, only much smaller, the sky was always cloudy, and the fairies consumed only milk. Elidurus returned several times, but after trying to steal some gold for his mother, discovered that the doorway to fairyland was once again hidden.
