Demon Child

Further Comments: Several tabloids carried the story of a family which was subjected to poltergeist-like behaviour (called demonic by some outlets) which started after a game was played with a Ouija board. It was claimed that a photograph was taken on the property which showed a blue-faced child with a tail.


Evil People

Location: Newcastle - Former site of castle

Further Comments: This site of a former motte and bailey castle is said to be haunted by the spirits of all those who have committed evil deeds. The site was also home to a mighty oak tree in which fairies lived. When a storm damaged the tree, a fallen branch was used by locals as firewood, although those who burnt the wood had their homes set alight by the upset fairies.


Elf Meet

Location: Newcastle - Oak tree on former site of castle

Further Comments: The oak tree was once believed to be a site where the little folk would congregate.


Well Riser

Location: Newcastle - Unnamed farmhouse in the area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Pre 1960s
Further Comments: A farmhouse with its own well was said to be haunted by an entity which would emerge from the water. The well was covered over, although it is not known if this stopped the sightings.


Wishing Well

Location: Newcastle - Well and springs
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This wishing well was used by throwing pins into it, while the waters of the spring would be used to cure joint pain and inflammation.


Blue Lady

Location: Newport - Church
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: A lady wearing a blue dress or veil is seen in a church yard where a local tsunami washed away many of the graves. It is thought that the phantom woman once lived in the village and would look out of the church tower towards the sea, hoping for her sailor husband to return.


Bad Ghosthunters

Location: Newport - Mountjoy Street

Further Comments: After a rumour started that a property along this road was haunted, police arrested a group of boys who had smashed windows while they waited for the ghost to appear.


Robert FitzHamon

Location: Newport - Newport Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The protective structure is haunted by the giant figure of FitzHamon, the castle's builder.


Annie Webb

Location: Newport - Private house along Corporation Street
Type: SHC
Date / Time: 2 February 1980
Further Comments: When Annie was found, only a pair of legs, piece of arm and skull remained. A white tablecloth lay untouched nearby.


Hooded Figure

Location: Newport - Royal Gwent Hospital
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: October 2005
Further Comments: One report sent to the Paranormal Database stated that both patients and nurses on one ward spotted a hooded monk-like figure. Another report says that a day room is home to an entity which pushes down on people's chests.


White Figure

Location: Newport - Sea wall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000s?
Further Comments: A white figure was spotted walking in the thick mud (which is impossible to walk in at a normal pace). The person vanished after being watched for around 15 seconds. A local legend has it that the area suffered a tsunami years ago and all the bodies apart from one were washed out to sea.


Three Nuns

Location: Newport - Spytty Park

Further Comments: A group of four friends watched a trio of nuns drift across the field ahead of them. The ghosts moved in a perfectly straight line apart from one ninety degree turn, before vanishing.


Nuns

Location: Newport - Tredegar House, Coedkernew
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Mostly unknown, bloody carpet on Friday 13 (reoccurring)
Further Comments: Phantom nuns were seen walking through the courtyard, while in other areas, disembodied footfalls have occurred. One local legend says that whenever Friday falls on the thirteenth of a month, one carpet on the site develops a bloodstain which vanishes as the day ends.


Big Bertha

Location: Newport - University of Wales College, Caerleon Campus
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late twentieth century
Further Comments: Bertha Ramsey, a 6 foot tall matron at the campus, was found dead at the base of a set of stairs in 1962 - it was unsure whether she tripped or if she was pushed. Her ghost has been seen since, and is blamed for playing with the elevators after dark. Another ghost seen on site is that of a Roman centurion, as the building was constructed on the site of an ancient burial site.


White Woman

Location: Penallt - Between the Argoed and nearby pond

Further Comments: Dressed all in white, this woman committed suicide in the pond where her ghost now vanishes.


Woman in White

Location: Penalt - Area around The Argoed (private residence)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This phantom woman dressed in white runs and throws herself into the nearby pond.


Lass in Apron

Location: Penhow - Penhow Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A phantom young girl dressed for a kitchen has been reported in the great hall.


Cwn Annwn

Location: Penrhos - General area
Type: Shuck
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This Welsh demonic hound has been reported in the area.


Laurel

Location: Pontypool - Hanbury Arms public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 21 September 2014
Further Comments: The Spectral Quest company reported recording the sounds of laughter and the voice 'Laurel' using EVP equipment. A tall man was also caught on thermal camera and an investigator reported feeling a hand grab their leg.


Victorian Woman

Location: Pontypool - Location withheld
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1983
Further Comments: While staying the night in a family home with a friend, one witness watched the bedroom door open and a Victorian woman stand in the doorway. After a while the woman vanished; the witness climbed out of bed and looked around, but could not find anyone. Later that night, the witness awoke to see the woman again, this time standing over them. The woman said 'you will be okay' before disappearing. The witness's story was told to the family the following morning, who produced an old photograph of their mother - the image of the ghostly visitor.


Dancing fairies

Location: Pontypool - Trevethin (was known as Trefethin), exact area not known
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A schoolgirl would dance with fairies under a crab apple tree, initially believing them to be other children, but eventually accepting them as fairy folk. After the novelty wore off, she gave up dancing with the fairies, but this displeased them; they dislocated her leg.


Music in the Air

Location: Pontypool - Twm Barlwm hill fort

Further Comments: The music is said to be a trap for children - any who investigate the sounds disappears within the hill.


Footsteps

Location: Pontypool - Unidentified house

Date / Time: 1905
Further Comments: Padded footsteps and the sound of someone dragging a heavy box could be detected late at night.


Bard

Location: Raglan - Raglan Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2001?
Further Comments: A phantom musician reportedly haunts this building, particularly the area where a library once stood. The ghost is thought to be William Herbert, the first Earl of Pembroke.


Woman in a Carriage

Location: Redbrook - Edge of the river
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Early twentieth century?
Further Comments: While walking by the river, Mr Morgan heard horses approaching from behind but couldn't see anything. As the sound reached him, Morgan leapt to one side and watched as a team of horses pulling a coach appear from nowhere. The coach contained a woman who looked out of the window at the witness. Instead of following the road, the coach entered nearby woodland and vanished.
