Sunken Village

Location: Llangadock - Exact area unknown
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Certain times of the year, though no further details known
Further Comments: The ringing of the bells from this sunken village are said to be heard by those in the right place at the right time (and in the right state of mind).

Home

Location: Llangadog - Trichrug (hill)
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The hill, another home to fairies, also claimed to house the grave of a giant - anyone who laid within the hill would be granted incredible strength.

Corpse Candles

Location: Llangathen - Aberglasney House & Gardens
Type: Crisis Manifestation
Date / Time: 1630s onwards
Further Comments: After the accidental deaths of five maids in the mid-seventeenth century, corpse candles have marked death and ill fortune ever since, appearing before each tragedy. Thomas Phillips, a owner of the house from the early nineteenth century, also haunts the grounds, as does an unknown girl who was seen in the basement of the property.

Huw Pugh

Location: Llangrannog - Beach
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late twentieth century
Further Comments: Dressed in his old fashioned sailors' suit, Huw Pugh has been observed several times over the years standing along the coastline.

Carreg Bica

Location: Llangrannog - Ordovician rocks on the beach
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Rock still present
Further Comments: After suffering from toothache, the giant Bica spat his tooth out and it landed on the beach, where it still stands today.

Tall Man

Location: Llanilar - Church
Type: Legend - Old Nick
Date / Time: Nineteenth century
Further Comments: One of several churches in Wales where the Devil was once said to have appeared in the form of a man with an evil looking face (or the head of a dog), with his appearance causing illness to witnesses.

Visited Fairyland

Location: Llanllawddog - Cottage in Llangwyly (woodland), unlikely to be still standing
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Nineteenth century
Further Comments: James Davies (aka Iago ap Dewi) was said to have disappeared for seven years, during which he visited the fairy kingdom, although he never admitted it.

Teulu

Location: Llanllwch - Church lane
Type: Crisis Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A local man claimed to have heard a ghostly funeral, known as Teulu, occur on several occasions. The Teulu would occur prior to a death in the neighbourhood and would be a pre-enactment of the burial.

Funeral

Location: Llanpumsaint - Unidentified road near the area
Type: Crisis Manifestation
Date / Time: Pre twentieth century
Further Comments: A man riding his horse encountered a ghostly funeral procession that startled both him and his mount. Around a week after the sighting, someone died on a nearby farm; the witness to the ghostly procession spotted the real funeral procession and claimed they were identical.

Kyffin's Grandmother

Location: Llansadwrn - Rectory
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: During an interview, artist Kyffin Williams claimed the rectory was haunted by his grandmother, who spent the later years of her life in a darkened room suffering from migraines.

Candle Extinguisher

Location: Llanstephan - Llanstephan Castle - tunnels under
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Pre-twentieth century
Further Comments: Each time a particular secret tunnel was investigated, which led from the castle to a nearby mansion house, a ghostly wind sprung up and extinguished the candlelight at the exact same place each time.

Tall Man

Location: Lledrod - Church
Type: Legend - Old Nick
Date / Time: Nineteenth century
Further Comments: One of several churches in Wales where the Devil was once said to have appeared in the form of a man with an evil looking face (or the head of a dog), with his appearance causing illness to witnesses.

Funeral Procession

Location: Milford Haven - Church
Type: Crisis Manifestation
Date / Time: Nineteenth century
Further Comments: A family living nearby watched a funeral occurring in the church opposite their house, though when they went to talk to the vicar whom they knew, the scene vanished. A few days later, a neighbour died, and the funeral occurred in the same manner that the family had observed.

Fairy Islands

Location: Milford Haven - Off coast
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Green fairy islands could be seen off the coast here, thought to be heavily populated and connected to the mainland via a secret undersea network.

Long Snake

Location: Milford Haven - Off coast, viable from the Shipwright public house
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: 06 March 2003
Further Comments: A small group at the pub watched a snake-like creature, between 10 - 15 metres in length, a short distance off the shoreline.

Booming

Location: Milford Haven - Skies over the area
Type: Other
Date / Time: 02 February 2012, around 22:00h
Further Comments: Three residents of Milford Haven complained to the local council about a booming noise heard in the area which lasted two minutes, a sound no witness had ever experienced before. One theory stated that the sound came from night exercises from the nearby Castlemartin Range, although the MoD stated that they were not using anything which could have caused the noise.

Cowled Woman

Location: Monkton - Old Hall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1930s
Further Comments: A vicar's daughter witnessed a ghostly lady leaning out of a window waving at her. The vicar himself was woken in successive nights by loud banging on his door.

Sound of a Coach

Location: Myddfai - Building at Myrtle Hill
Type: Post-Mortem Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa 1805
Further Comments: A family sitting in their parlour were disturbed by what sounded like a horse and coach running down their staircase. When they ran to the stairs, the source of the sound could not be discovered. A few minutes later, the body of the family's son was carried in, having drowned nearby.

Running Man

Location: Nant Y Caws - A48, between Cross Hands and Carmarthen
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2010, late autumn, around 01:30, and January 2016
Further Comments: In 2010, a car driver was forced to break hard when travelling along this road as a man ran out in front of their vehicle. About halfway across the road, the figure vanished. A similar encounter occurred in 2016 when a witness watched a dark figure who vanished while crossing the road.

White Pigs

Location: Nevern - Church
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The church was due to be constructed close to the river, but an angel appeared and advised that building work should occur at a site where a white pig would be seen. The advice was taken; a white sow and her white piglets were discovered where the church now stands.

Bleeding Yew

Location: Nevern - Yew Tree in churchyard
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Still present
Further Comments: The second yew tree on the right on entering the churchyard is known as the Bleeding Tree - blood can be seen dripping from the stump left by a severed branch.

Forty Foot Creature

Location: New Quay - Off coast
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: 1960s?
Further Comments: This sea serpent reportedly took a liking to the local seal population, though the pinniped's objected to the new arrival and their fleeing was an indication the creature was near.

Impenetrable Dragon

Location: Newcastle Emlyn - Ruined castle in the area (may no longer be standing)
Type: Dragon
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A dragon whose armoured scales rendered it virtually invincible was killed by a soldier who managed to shoot the creature in its one weak spot - up the bottom. When the dragon's body hit the nearby river venom gushed out, killing all fish.

Angels

Location: Pantau - Unknown house in the area
Type: Other
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A preacher by the name of David Thomas reportedly encountered a band of angels as he prayed in his house one night. Their presence illuminated the room to such an extent that his candlelight was no longer visible.

Phantom Faces

Location: Pembrey - Pembrey Country Park, coastline near the area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: As well as the occasional ghost ship reported off the coast, the area is reportedly haunted by the ghosts of those killed by wreakers in the seventeenth century.
