Large Black Cat

Location: Melton (Suffolk) - Road in the village

Further Comments: A milkman on his early morning round reported seeing a large black cat in the village - the sighting unnerved the man to such a degree he quickly left the scene and refused to return to complete his work.

Red Cat

Location: Mevagissey (Cornwall) - Area west of Town
Type: ABC
Date / Time: January 1995
Further Comments: This ABC, possessing a vivid red coat, was blamed for the carcasses of several deer that appeared to have been eaten.

Leaping Cat

Location: Milton Keynes (Buckinghamshire) - Bleak Hall area, close to railway bridge
Type: ABC
Date / Time: 1986
Further Comments: Two teenage friends heard something behind them and watched as a large black cat jumped out into the road. It made eye contact with the witnesses before jumping off again into woodland.

Beast of Buchan

Location: Mintlaw (Aberdeenshire) - Woods near The Beaches
Type: ABC
Date / Time: Late 2006
Further Comments: Local man James Maskame watched a large black cat-like creature leave the woods before running across nearby farmland. This is just one of several in the area, where local media have dubbed the cat 'The Beast of Buchan'.

Emerald Eyed Cat

Location: Mylor Bridge (Cornwall) - Between Mylor Bridge and Carclew

Further Comments: A large cat walked over to a stationary car and stared into the driver's eyes, face to face, through the side window. The creature then took off into the night.

Two Kittens

Location: Nether Stowey (Somerset) - Field off South Lane
Type: ABC
Date / Time: Late August, 2007
Further Comments: Builders on a construction site watched two large black cats on a nearby field. One of the men went to have a closer look and additionally spotted a pair of younger cats; kittens, but much larger than domestic animals.

Cat Attack

Location: Newick (Sussex) - Hill

Date / Time: 17 October 2001
Further Comments: A man working in the undergrowth was attacked by a lynx-like creature that tried to bite his hands. Luckily, he was wearing thick gardening gloves that protected him.

Road Crossing Cat

Location: North Walsham (Norfolk) - Northeast of village, close to Bacton Woods / Verona woods

Date / Time: June 2010
Further Comments: Four witnesses slowly driving in this area spotted a large cat walking from a wheat field, down a bank and across the road. When the witnesses stopped their vehicle, the cat ran up the opposite bank and into Verona woods.

Large Cat

Location: Northallerton (Yorkshire) - Hailstone Moor, near Scholla Lane

Further Comments: One man reported two sightings of a big cat on consecutive days in December 2011. The creature was bigger than a domestic cat and stood against a fence which was later used as a reference point to measure it; the creature was estimated to be around five foot (150 centimetres) long.

Stafford Beast

Location: Norton Bridge (Staffordshire) - General area

Further Comments: There were several reports of a large cat in this region over the 2008 summer, including one report of a pet sheep found dead (a local 'expert' saying that a big cat had attacked it).

Lion

Location: Nottingham (Nottinghamshire) - Nottingham Airport area

Date / Time: 29 July 1976
Further Comments: Two milkmen in the area reported seeing a large cat with a long tail which had a bushy end. Locals claimed that their pets had been quite restless during the night, though a large scale search by police using tracker dogs and helicopters found nothing.

Dog sized Cat

Location: NW3 (Greater London) - West End Lane, area near the church

Further Comments: Deep within London, the report of this large golden cat surprised many locals.

Black Cat

Location: Okehampton (Devon) - Wooded open ground, end of Wonnacotts Road
Type: ABC
Date / Time: Spring 2006
Further Comments: Two children reported seeing a black, puma-like cat while playing in this wooded area.

Beast of Bexley

Location: Outer London: Bexley (Greater London) - Bexleyheath Golf Club
Type: ABC
Date / Time: 22:30h on 12 July 2005, and February 2006
Further Comments: A teenager reported seeing a giant black cat trotting across the grass here - police were called but could find nothing. The creature was photographed by a woman from the bottom of her garden in Feb 2006.

Large Black Cat

Location: Outer London: Northolt (Greater London) - Central Line Railway between Northolt & Greenford
Type: ABC
Date / Time: 1995 onwards?
Further Comments: It was claimed that this ABC used the local rail tracks to move around without attracting too much attention.

Dog-like Cat

Location: Pakenham (Suffolk) - Road through the village
Type: ABC
Date / Time: Winter 2003
Further Comments: A cat the size of a retriever crossed the road in front of a VW van driver.

Large ABC Footprints in Snow

Location: Peldon (Essex) - Exact area not known
Type: ABC
Date / Time: January 1996
Further Comments: While no animal was seen, a large cat left footprints in the snow here in early 1996.

Black Panther

Location: Pershore (Hereford & Worcester) - Outside of Croome Estate
Type: ABC
Date / Time: 01 June 2012, April 2016
Further Comments: A witness reported seeing a black panther moving through a rapeseed field in 2012, while in 2016, another couple reported seeing another black cat in the same area.

Black Cat

Location: Pitsea (Essex) - Exact location not known
Type: ABC
Date / Time: May 1976
Further Comments: A typical large cat was seen in the area, black in colour.

Fawn Coloured Cat

Location: Podsmead (Gloucestershire) - Widden Field
Type: ABC
Date / Time: 2012
Further Comments: A witness spoke to the local newspaper about observing a fast moving, Alsatian-sized creature which was fawn in colour in a field close to her home. The witness said friends had seen a similar creature in the area.


Canford Heath, Poole.

Cat Calls

Location: Poole (Dorset) - Canford Heath
Type: ABC
Date / Time: 20 August 2005 (cat heard)
Further Comments: A woman with her elderly mother crossing the heath heard a growling noise followed by a loud roar from behind bushes. As they ran off, the roar was heard again. A cyclist and her son have also reported seeing a ghostly woman wearing a grey Victorian dress on the heath, close to the bomb crater used by mountain bikers.

Young Puma

Location: Portrush (County Antrim) - General area

Further Comments: The press reported that people should not approach a large cat if seen in this area, following several sightings in quick succession.

Rusty Cat

Location: Rackheath (Norfolk) - Exact location not known
Type: ABC
Date / Time: July 1996
Further Comments: Rusty brown in colour, this cat made a fleeting visit to Rackheath.

Large Black Cat

Location: Randaltown (County Antrim) - Exact location not known
Type: ABC
Date / Time: Circa 2008
Further Comments: A local man and his friend witnessed a huge, black creature run past their car while heading towards a local chip shop.

Spotty Cat

Location: Red Lodge (Suffolk) - Russet Drive and woodland
Type: ABC
Date / Time: Summer 2008, November 2014
Further Comments: In 2008, a local resident reported seeing a cat twice the size of a normal domestic feline early one morning along Russet Drive. The creature was described as 'spotty'. Six years later, two sandy-coloured large cats were sighted in woodland and reported to police, who found nothing when they investigated the area.
