Perth and Kinross Ghosts, Folklore and Forteana

Location: Pitlochry - Pass of Killiecrankie
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 27 July (reoccurring)
Further Comments: The bloody battleground between English Government and Jacobite Highlanders, the anniversary of the battle is marked by the ground turning blood red. Reports of soldiers in English and Scottish regalia, both lying dead and others fighting, have also been recorded. As if this was not enough, the area is also haunted by the drifting head of a woman murdered on the site during the seventeenth century, and the tall white spectre who tries to grab people passing along the roads; anyone the ghost touches dies within the year...

Handless Girl

Location: Rait - Rait Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: During a bout of clan warfare, a daughter of the Comyns had her hands chopped off by her father who falsely believed she had betrayed him to their enemies (the MacIntoshes). She jumped from the castle battlements, rather than to bleed to death; her wraith is now seen drifting the castle ruins.

Location: Rumbling Bridge - River
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This water spirit is said to create noise and generate light to lure people into the river. As per a kelpie's normal behaviour, once someone took a step into the water, they were drowned.

Location: Scone - Scone Palace, South Passage
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The ghost here is said to constantly walk up and down the passage, always at the same constant speed. One witness reported feeling something hit her arm three times while passing along the corridor.

Location: Southwick - Ruins of a round tower
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Buried somewhere in this area is enough gold, wrapped in a bull hide, to provide wealth to the whole of Scotland.

Location: Stix - Taymouth Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The sound of phantom footsteps can be heard around the castle.

Location: Tulliebole - Trooper's Dubb (aka Trooper's Pool)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Eighteenth century?
Further Comments: A soldier engaged in a drinking contest on by the side of the pool died (presumably due to alcohol poisoning) and was buried close by. The soldier was said to have been seen sitting in the same spot post-mortem, threatening to throw witnesses into the pool, and fearful locals would take longer routes home after dark to avoid passing too close to the site.
