Further Comments: Anne died after jumping from an upstairs window and is said to haunt the property, although it is worth noting that the building was rebuilt in 1937 on the original foundations.

Woman

Location: Buckler's Hard - Master Builders Hotel

Date / Time: Pre 1965
Further Comments: The building was thought to be haunted by a woman, and the sounds of children, the latter heard by a waiter on two occasions. The haunting ceased after a priest instructed the waiter to sleep with holy water and rosary beads under his pillow.

Friar

Further Comments: Seen at the manor house, the vicarage garden and along the lanes, the phantom friar would vanish if anyone approached him.

Swinging Chambermaid

Location: Buriton - Buriton Manor

Further Comments: The then owner of the property, Lt Col Carter, requested that his rates be reduced due to a ghost on the property that would lessen the value. A chambermaid who committed suicide on the site was reportedly seen several times by the Lt Col, though the building was also the haunt of a monk or friar dressed in brown habit.

Further Comments: The wiccan store is home to a phantom cat.

The area around Burley Beacon.

Sheep Eater

Location: Burley - Hill known as Burley Beacon
Type: Dragon
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A dragon terrorised the neighbourhood around the hill after demanding a sacrifice of sheep - the locals had given him milk instead. Before long, a dependable knight of yore came along, covered his armour with birdlime (a sticky substance made from bark) and powered glass, and engaged the creature. The knight may have won the fight, but his two hunting dogs were killed, and he later died of dragon-inflected injuries.

Loney roads traverse the New Forest.

Metallic Smoke

Further Comments: While driving around lost, looking for a road sign, a couple passed a patch of purple/blue smoke, around 2 metres by 3 metres in diameter, hovering around 2 metres off the ground. They drove back to have another look, but the smoke had gone.

Peter Warne

Further Comments: A former smuggler, Warne is now said to haunt this inn.

Woman

Location: Cadham - White Hart Inn
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: Though never seen, this woman's perfume has been reported on several occasions, while her presence is also denoted by a sudden change in temperature.

Bar Woman

Location: Chalton - Red Lion public house

Further Comments: Several phantoms haunt this old pub, including a woman behind the bar, a child on the staircase and an unknown face that looks from an upper floor window.

Horse and Cart

Location: Chalton - Village road

Further Comments: A phantom horse pulling a cart is said to haunt this road.

White Shape

Location: Chawton - Skies above the town

Date / Time: 22 June 2002, 21:35h
Further Comments: Filmed by a witness for several minutes, a round ball of white light darted around the sky. The light changed shape and size several times before finally disappearing behind a dark cloud.

Sad Lady

Location: Cheriton - Ashley Grange (demolished 1925)

Further Comments: During the demolition of the house, a builder spotted a woman with a sad expression standing in the old kitchen. The figure vanished as the builder slowly stepped away. The builder later learned that a colleague had also spotted the figure standing on the staircase landing.

Lonely Nun

Location: Chilbolton - Rectory

Further Comments: While living, this nun broke her vows and escaped from the abbey, though returned several years later seeking repentance... She was promptly bricked up alive (like so many other ghostly nuns) so now this figure drifts around a room on the site.

Faceless Man

Location: Chilbolton - Wooded area near playground

Further Comments: A six year old ran back to his mother, claiming to have spotted a male grey figure with no face, wearing a hat, walking around a wooded area close by. As they drove away, the child said he could still see the figure from the car window, walking across a nearby field, close to something metal sticking out of the ground.

Man with an Umbrella

Location: Colbury - Area close to a brickyard (unlikely to remain) and Ashhurst Bridge

Date / Time: Circa Summer 1895
Further Comments: A man clad in dark clothing and holding an umbrella took up haunting this area, vanishing into thin air if approached. Some considered the entity a real person, with one man writing to the local newspaper and threatened to shoot the entity if seen.

Further Comments: This area is said to contain hidden wealth.

Betty

Location: Corhampton - Betty Mundy's Bottom (area now redeveloped)
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Stories vary to whether Betty was an angry fairy, a kind fairy, an evil witch, or just a murderous lady. Either way, the cottage which bore her name has since been demolished and replaced with a new home and grounds.

Cromwellian Rider

Further Comments: Cromwellian troops have been seen near the local church, while another soldier rides a horse along the road; he dismounts and vanishes through the church door.

Strange Sounds

Location: Crondall - Ewshot House

Date / Time: Nineteenth century
Further Comments: These phantom noises, including banging from behind the bricked walls, were a source of constant annoyance to the occupiers.

Muffled Banging

Location: Crondall - Itchells Manor

Further Comments: Blamed on a murder that once occurred in the building, many sleepless nights were created by banging, the cause of which could never be discovered.

Woman in Grey

Location: Crondall - Private cottage in the Borough

Date / Time: 1977 / 1978, and 2005
Further Comments: A pleasant atmosphere accompanied this entity, a lady in a simple grey dress with a white head covering, which appeared twice to a witness. In the mid-2000s, the sound of footsteps and the unexplained adjustment of electrical items were experienced in possibly the same property.

Stealth Sheep

Further Comments: Never appearing, this phantom flock can be heard moving along the roads, the occasional 'baaaa' betraying their position.

Donkey

Further Comments: This phantom white donkey appears at night.

Colt Pixie

Location: East Boldre - Cold Pixie's Cave (Bronze Age barrow), Beaulieu Heath

Further Comments: An equine pixie, this fairy entity would play mild pranks and call out to horses, the distraction causing the creatures to become lost.
