Peterhouse, Cambridge

Francis Dawes
Dawes was a former Peterhouse bursar who hanged himself in the 18th century after an election scandal. He took his life near the Combination Room where his ghost was seen (normally a series of knocks denote his imminent appearance). It is unsure whether the entity seen in 1997 was Dawes or the ghost of Max Perutz, a Nobel Prize winner.
