Beast of Bodalog

Location: Rhayader (Powys) - Area around Bodalog Farm
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: September 1988 to December 1988
Further Comments: Thirty five sheep were killed over several months by an unknown creature which dispatched livestock with a bite just below the neck. It was speculated that the creature came from the nearby river at night. Due to flattened grass around the kills, some speculated it was the work of a large snake.


 
White Lady

Location: Rhiwsaeson (South Glamorgan) - Unknown road in the area
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: A woman in white who haunted the area was said to have tried to locate a new born baby, the kiss of which would release her from her fate.


 
Farm Animals

Location: Rhondda (Mid Glamorgan) - Exact location unknown
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1992
Further Comments: Built on a farm, one house here was reportedly haunted by pigs in the garden. Poltergeist like activity was reported inside the building itself, including exploding cups and electrical equipment powering itself up and off.


 
Lady of the Lake

Location: Rhondda (Mid Glamorgan) - Llyn Fawr

Further Comments: This beautiful woman sits on a stone on the bank of the lake, though she dives under the water if she becomes aware of anyone watching her.


 
White Woman

Location: Rhosili (West Glamorgan) - Paviland Cave, between village and Port Eynon
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This cave is haunted by a greedy woman who entered it looking for hidden treasure - a sudden storm blew up, trapping and drowning her.


 
Palaeolithic Man?

Location: Rhossili (West Glamorgan) - Moors near the village
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: The sensation of evil and of being watched found by some in this area has been blamed on the ghosts of Stone Age man who once lived there.


 
Coach & Horses

Location: Rhossili (West Glamorgan) - Old Rectory
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The ghost of a smuggler driving his coach runs around the sandy area of this building, while on some nights a macabre entity is seen climbing out of the sea and enters the rectory. This may be the same entity which asks (in a gruff voice) 'why don't you turn around and look at me?' - those who do so have never seen anything.


 
Monks

Location: Rhuddlan (Clwyd) - Area near old Norman graveyard
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: Before the discovery of the graveyard, a man returning home (from the local pub) encountered several ghostly monks on the path before him - he was forced to dive out of their way!


 
Knightly Demon

Location: Rhuddlan (Clwyd) - River Clwyd area
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A 'legend' tells of a beautiful princess, living at Rhuddlan Castle, who fell in love with a strange knight. Instead of marrying a prince (and ensuring peace between nations), she ran off with the knight, only to discover that he was in fact a demon. Before she could escape home, he killed her and threw the body into the river. The sound of her screams are said still to echo at night. Unfortunately, the 'legend' is a piece of fiction written by Ann Julia Hatton nee Kemble, also known as Ann of Swansea.


 
Entrance to Fairyland

Location: Rhyd-ddu (Gwynedd) - Llyn Cwellyn

Further Comments: There was once a way into fairyland here - one man who took it disappeared for seven years! A nearby lake contains a floating island, from which fairy music can be heard.


 
Slow Moving Train

Location: Rhydyfelin (Dyfed) - Close to the old railway line
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: September 2003 or 2004
Further Comments: Four people heard the sound of a slow moving train from their cottage which stood close to the disused railway line. They went outside to investigate, but saw nothing.


 
White Woman

Location: Rhyl (Clwyd) - Start of the Dyserth Road bends
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: The white figure of a lady was seen standing behind a wall, leaning over the top.


 
Coal Discovery

Location: Rhymney (Gwent) - Valley area
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The coal deposits in the valley are said to have been discovered by fairies after they killed a giant which was attacking their homes. The giant was assassinated as he slept and the fairies set fire to his body; they realised that the ground continued to burn after their enemy's body had turned to ash.


 
Combusting Dog

Location: Risca (Gwent) - Exact location not known
Type: Shuck
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A shuck which lurked here transformed itself into a raging fire, the size of a field, in order to scare a local man into respecting the Sabbath.


 
White Woman

Location: Risca (Gwent) - Miner's graves near campsite in nearby forest
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000s?
Further Comments: This area is home to a phantom woman in white and a strange shadowy figure, speculated by some to be a former miner.


 
Roman Soldier

Location: Risca (Gwent) - St Mary's Church Hall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1996
Further Comments: A local theatre troupe that used the hall for rehearsals and productions reported a phantom Roman soldier and hearing a voice that would call their names.


 
Music in the Air

Location: Risca (Gwent) - Twm Barlwm mountain

Further Comments: Fairies are said to produce the sweet music which occasionally drifts down from the mountain at night.


 
Afanc

Location: River Conwy (Clwyd) - Llyn yr Afranc (aka Beaver Pool)

Further Comments: Afanc was a monster, thought to resemble a beaver, which attacked locals and dragged them to the bottom of the river. The beast was defeated after being tricked into sleeping by a fair maiden.


 
Human Sacrifice

Further Comments: It is said that once a year the water monster hiding here demanded three human sacrifices to prevent it from terrorising the local neighbourhood.


 
Lucy Walters

Further Comments: Lucy has been reported running around the castle, her white clothing flowing as she moves, passing through closed doors if they stand in her way.

Further Comments: A phantom coach and horses crashes and vanishes into a wall somewhere in this area.

Further Comments: A ghostly hearse manifests in the area whenever a local is doomed to die.


 
Funeral Procession

Further Comments: An old story states that any death in the area would be heralded by a ghostly funeral procession and ghostly horse drawn hearse.


 
Coach and Horses

Location: Rockfield (Gwent) - Road between Rockfield and Monmouth (Ancre Lane?)

Date / Time: Weather dependent: Stormy nights
Further Comments: A coach pulled by a team of frantic horses reputedly vanishes into a field after crashing through a wall on the roadside.
