Lady in White

Location: Thames Ditton - Home of Compassion church

Further Comments: Appearing quite real and substantial, the room that this sad shade haunts remained locked up for many years. She could be one of the nuns who once worked in the building.


Location: Thornton Heath - Private house
Type: Vampire
Date / Time: 1938
Further Comments: One piece of source material states that at three different times over a period of three months in 1938, a woman reported being attached by a winged creature which bit her neck and drew blood. However, it is possible that the vampire attacks occurred during the 1970s, and that the 1938 incidents were more polt is nature. Even so, the 1970s incidents also involved poltergeist activity, and the woman at the centre of the claims also alleged she was attacked by a tiger.

Beaten Donkey

Location: Tilford - Donkey Inn

Further Comments: The area around the inn is haunted by a donkey that was beaten to death by its owner.

Faceless Motorcyclist

Location: Waddon - Roundshaw Housing Estate
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1971
Further Comments: The motorcyclist was seen early in the morning, dressed in old clothing. It is thought he was stationed on this site during World War 2, which was a RAF base. Other airfield ghosts reported around the area include a Dutch pilot killed when his airplane crashed in fog in the 1930s and three nuns who died when their plane crashed in 1947. Phantom singing has also been reported on the estate.

Scratching Post

Location: Wallis Wood - Footpath at edge of wood near Oakfields estate

Date / Time: Late 1980s or early 1990s
Further Comments: A mother and her two children returning from a visit to the mobile library spotted a 1.5 metre long black cat sitting on the path ahead of them. After watching the creature for a minute or two and realising that the cat was not going to move, the family went back the way they came. A year later when in the area, the family found the base of a tree was covered in scratches, as if the large cat had used it as a scratching post.

John Bradshaw

Further Comments: This shade of the man who signed Charles I death warrant sometimes appears in this old house.

Further Comments: Whispering, strange footsteps and stationery cupboard doors which rattle unaided by human hand are just a few incidents reported on Jenrick's company blog.

Tall Man

Location: Warlingham - Farleigh Road, close to the common
Type: Unknown Ghost Type
Date / Time: September 2009
Further Comments: The figure of a tall man was observed crossing the road. The man did not look solid, and vanished walking into a thick hedge.

Warning of Great Events

Location: Warlingham - Spring (exact location not known)
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Seventeenth century?
Further Comments: The spring is said to rise before any events which occur which result in great change, although the last rise may have occurred during the Revolution of 1688.


Location: Waverley - Waverley Abbey

Date / Time: Ghost unknown, cat sighting 27 October 1825
Further Comments: Appearing in the dining hall, this former Cardinal was reportedly seen many times drifting around. It is believed that he could stand guard over a hoard of hidden treasure. The writer William Cobbett reported seeing a large grey cat while visiting the abbey.

Woman Dressed in Satin

Location: West Clandon - Clandon House, Clandon Park

Further Comments: This ghostly lady, wearing a cream coloured satin dress, walks the land surrounding the house carrying a large hunting knife. She is said to have once walked through the front wall of the house, appearing in every room before materialising through the back wall. A male ghost also haunts the area, recognised by his overgrown facial hair, and another female spirit, this time dressed in black.

Dragon Slayer

Location: West Clandon - Exact location unknown, but woodcarving in local church

Further Comments: A dragon which was given the locals a hard time was killed by an ex-soldier and his dog - the dog leapt onto the creature's face, while the man decapitated the wyrm.

Elizabeth Knight

Location: West Clangdon - Clangdon Park House

Date / Time: 1896
Further Comments: The ghost of Elizabeth, the demented wife of a former owner of the park, was seen by twenty people running across the grass waving a knife in the air. When they shot at her, the figure vanished through a nearby brick wall. The presence has also been observed in the house, though much calmer in nature.

Headless Horseman

Location: Westcott - Road between Westcott and Dorking

Further Comments: A headless horseman is reported to haunt Westcott. In 2007, one man walking between Westcott and Dorking was followed by something unseen which pushed its way through thick bushes and made a trotting sound.

Female in Grey Crinoline Dress

Location: Weybridge - Oatlands Park Hotel, restaurant and room 1313

Further Comments: The ghost is thought to be a maid who jumped from the window of room 1313 and killed herself, after a fight with her boyfriend.

Racing Driver

Location: Weybridge - Brooklands race course

Further Comments: This figure, complete with leather coat and racing cap and goggles, has been seen pacing the track. A semi transparent car has also been observed racing around the circle.

Further Comments: The plane was blown out of the sky in during a storm in the mid 1930s - now when the weather conditions are bad, the aircraft can be heard struggling in the wind.

Smelly Creature

Location: Winterfold - Unknown road, near deserted mansion

Date / Time: 16 December 1967
Further Comments: A driver who had pulled over to wipe his windscreen spotted a strange creature standing around 140 centimetres tall, with a glowing, oblong shaped head. The beast emanated an acrid smell. The driver jumped back into his car and quickly drove off.

Reverend Mr Marshall

Further Comments: A friend of the recently deceased Reverend reported seeing his ghostly form standing close to the communion rail during a service.

Price's Ghosts

Location: Woldingham - Seven bedroom home belonging to Katie Price

Further Comments: The website carried the story that Katie Price was moving from her home after being hounded by two phantoms. Her husband Alex Reid was also reported to have encountered a ghostly elderly lady within the building.

Jolly Monk

Location: Wonersh - Grantley Arms public house

Date / Time: 25 December (reoccurring)
Further Comments: This figure once appeared every Christmastime, though has kept his head down over recent years (maybe as a result of being exorcised by a Roman Catholic barmaid).

Medieval Visitors

Location: Woodmansterne - Fairlawns, Croydon Lane
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa 1948
Further Comments: Three different entities were identified haunting this house; two men and a woman all wearing clothing dating back to medieval times. The entities were spotted around the site, and also said to have caused the footsteps along empty corridors and rapping from the walls. A series of sťances finally laid the ghosts to rest.

Dr Samuel Wilberforce

Location: Wotton - Wotton House
Type: Crisis Manifestation
Date / Time: 19 July 1873
Further Comments: Dr Samuel Wilberforce was killed after being thrown from his horse while travelling through Deerleap Woods. Around the time of his death, four people at Wotton House reported seeing Wilberforce looking through a window, even though the doctor had no connection to the building and had never visited the site. As a side note, the building is said to be haunted by a man carrying fishing gear, who was seen in 1964.

Man in Grey

Further Comments: A man dressed in 1930s clothing, a grey overcoat and flat cap is reported walking up and down the platforms here.
